Eagle Rock Presents A QUEEN DVD Extravaganza SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION 6DVD SET INCLUDES LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM – 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION ROCK MONTREAL LIVE IN RIO (First Time on DVD) ON FIRE: LIVE AT THE BOWL ~NOVEMBER 19, 2013~ New York, NY—Queen. Four Concerts. Six DVDs. Does it get any better? On November 19, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the Special Limited Edition 6DVD set of Queen’s Live At Wembley Stadium – 25th Anniversary Edition, Queen Rock Montreal, On Fire: Live At The Bowl, andLive In Rio. [Pre-book Order Date October 25, MSRP $49.98] Exclusive to this package, Live In Rio features the band performing at the “Rock In Rio” festival in January 1985. Dazzling 250,000 fans, the setlist features such favorites as “Seven Seas of Rhye” and “Liar,” while spotlighting 5 songs from The Works, which they were supporting at the time. Live at Wembley Stadium – 25th Anniversary Edition was originally released as a separate DVD in the US on March 12, 2013, and features two sell-out shows at London’s famed Wembley Arena in 1986. This DVD includes the bonus film “The Magic Tour,” which features interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor filmed in 2011, where the members reflect on this 1986 tour. Queen Rock Montreal, which was filmed in 1981, was the group’s only concert to be shot on 35mm full cinema format film (they were the first band to do so). Originally titled, “We Will Rock You,” this film was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1983. North America followed suit in September 1984, making Queen Rock Montrealthe first commercially available film of Queen in concert. This was originally released on DVD on August 3, 2007. On Fire – Live At The Bowl, which was re-issued on DVD this past May, features Queen in the midst of their 1982 “Hot Space” Tour. Plucked from over 60 sell-out concerts in the world’s biggest arenas, this show includes a second disc with bonus interviews, a photo gallery, and additional performances from Tokyo and Vienna. All the greats are on full display in these concerts: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” “Somebody To Love,” “Under Pressure,” “We Are The Champions,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” “Who Wants To Live Forever,” “Radio Ga Ga” and many more. Queen were, indeed, “champions” of the arena concert experience, and this 6DVD is a brilliant document of that, showing four different occasions where the band executed live brilliance. Somebody may ask: "Don't you have the VHS and the semi-official DVDs?". I would answer that I do, but I want to have the real thing in DVD. Others may suggest that I consider waiting for a standalone edition, but I have been waiting for 28 years already and that is enough. Is it bitter-sweet because I might HAVE to buy the bundle if I really want Rio in DVD now? Of course! :) Cheers, Ogre- |

I was reading this post and thinking "My God, how whiny are all these people! You can't please anybody", almost feeling embarrased that Gary Taylor would read this and think "Why do I even bother with these creeps?"... then I read the words "VHS rip"... Fuck. I was expecting at least a slight upgrade from that, remixed sound or ANYTHING. My Rio VHS is PAL and I can't play it. My Laser disc player is broken so I can't play my LD of it. A decent DVD would have been nice. I have to be honest, since the 40th anniversary releases, Days of Our Lives, Great Pretender, etc., we've have a good run as Queen fans. This one I think might be the first dud or missed opportunity for me. |

I'm really struggling to marry Brian/QPL stance that we often get; 'We can't release anything like Hammersmith 79 because even though we have the original film and a decent stereo mix, we always want to release stuff in the best quality possible and so wont' issue this without having access to the multitracks', compared to: 'Hey, here's an idea - Let's just rip the VHS of Rio and stick it on a DVD - never mind that it's a butchered cut, the video quality is poor and the audio mix is even worse. I don't know how the fans will possibly complain, after all we've now removed that picture of John that was back to front on the old VHS cover' |

Will the "Rio" be coming out on "SD Bluray"? I mean they ripped us off for the "Freddie Tribute" Bluray, I mean - come on, what was the point of releasing the Freddie Tribute on Bluray at all when it was only in SD? But this 6 disc dvd set, takes the biscuit, For just the "RIO" DVD to be a VHS rip, well, just another blatant "No Effort at all" attempt for QPL to get us to part with our money. I'm sure 'VHS rip' answer from GT doesn't mean that 'Live In Rio' one hour video from '85 was transferred directly from the old VHS. This stuff was reissued on Laser Discs in the nineties from original masters. The same thing will be now. I don't understand why do all you people really bother to have this Rio DVD from the pack. There are several LD=>DVD transfers floating around with this video in excellent quality. Just trade it for yourself and don't spent your money on this weak attempt to grab money without any effort. Just wait for descent set with completely restored/remixed shows from this great event, which will be released in the future, I'm sure. |

Ive always been of the opinion that this set does more harm than good, although not everyone has agreed with me,and most people will already have these concerts in various forms,I myself still have a Laserdisc player and therefore have these concerts.....But then, not everyone has been enjoying Queen since 1971,have they....this set is really for the new fans that the Newish Record Label,Island Records, wish to attract to be able to keep on releasing favourite Concerts like Hammersmith in the Future,so the more money that is made from these sets indicates to the band how much interest there is CURRENTLY in their past Live shows.....Think of this boxset as a re-setting the slate, and the first stepping stone.....That is why I will buy it....plus the extras....x |

Gary, please, if you're still reading this thread, one serious question - will the first night of Wembley be more complete or will it be exactly the same edit as the 2011 edition? If nothing else I'd love to hear at least Brian's complete solo, not the edited version |
cmi 27.10.2013 08:57 |
pittrek: Answer is so definite. It's a compilation of all previous dvd's as they were released with one weak addition as a lure. Nothing more. P.S. I never knew Brighton Rock Solo was edited on 11/07. Possibly it caused by the lack of footage. |
pittrek 27.10.2013 09:48 |

Their would seem to be no point in buying this set. It seems to be a clear attempt to lure fans into buying what most will already have for the chance of owning an official, though poor quality copy of Rio. The blame for this seems to have been laid squarely at the feet of BM and RT. However it may not be as simple as that. The record company are no doubt aware of unofficial DVD copies of RIR being available. As it was filmed by a TV company at the time it is possible that they still own, and have no wish to sell the original film and sound track if it still exists. The hour long video could be all that is owned by the band and their for under licence to Capitol/ Island records. The box set could be a record company Xmas cash in rather than the bands idea. Either way it's a rip off and not one I'll be investing in |
MackMantilla 29.10.2013 08:46 |
But on 'Days of our lives' and 'The Great Pretender' documentaries we have seen snippets of more footage (with remastered audio) from Rio shows.. |
e-man 29.10.2013 09:35 |
someone has to say this: this by NO STRETCH a shitty release. It's a superb box set which, despite what Rio ends up sounding like, showcases Queen at various stages (pun intended!) of the 80s, when they were one of the biggest live bands in the world. This box is a GREAT starting point if Queen live in an arena / stadium is something you would want to dig into at the same time, this is not aimed at the longtime fans (apart from adding Rio to the mix), which is a shame. QP should reward this fan base asap with something unreleased. however, it does NOT make this box set a shitty release. Anyone who wants to buy a Queen live dvd needen't look further |

Those "bootleg" versions of Rio on DVD are "legitimate" enough that Amazon carries them and libraries in the US buy them. I just checked out Queen: Rock in Rio on DVD from my local library. It's a 2010 release from CineVu International/Downtown Entertainment, Inc. (at least that's who holds the copyright according to the artwork). I went to the Eagle Rock website (link to compare the track listing but the Eagle Rock site doesn't mention the new Queen box set anywhere. I haven't watched it yet but this has the same songs as the old VHS release. I wonder if QPL signed the same type of agreement for Rio that they did with Saul Swimmer for the Monteal show. Here's the copy from the back of the box: '250000 people came to see Queen at the opening of the first of the historic "Rock in Rio" concerts held on the sandy shores of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Freddie Mercury and company perform a stage show that stagers (sic) the imagination starting with "Tie Your Mother Down" and ending with a riotous performance of "God Save The Queen" that will leave your sense reeling.' Gotta love that description of GSTQ: "a riotous performance". Indeed. |

Indeed. It says on the back of the box:- DTS 5.1 surround sound & also recorded 12th July 1985. it does not say it's an amalgamation of both nights though. |

At least it's reasonably priced. I never bought the 25th anniversary of Wembley and of course do not have Rio on DVD. I have the others though. Just wish there were more incentives for the fans who already purchased the already released DVDs. :( |

When you say "legitimate" enough do you mean "professionally filmed"? Because just because they carry something does not mean it is any less a bootleg. |

I meant that the bootleggers/pirates found a way to distribute their version of Rock in Rio on DVD in a way that makes it look like a legitimate release. A lot of libraries in the US buy their books/CDs/DVDs from wholesalers or jobbers like Baker & Taylor. I didn't mean that the release was legitimate, just that it probably fooled a lot of people who bought it, and not just the public. I was legitimately surprised that I found this in my local library. I hope that QPL were able to put a stop to these versions being sold. |

Wasn't there a loophole in the Italian law that made some of these bootlegs available for sale or to be exported for a short time? I seem to recall seeing an "In Nuce" CD with a "Made in Europe" sticker on it in a record store near me. (At least I think it was Italy. Maybe it was Greece?) |

"In Nuce" was an Italian release. |

A Word In Your Ear wrote: Will the "Rio" be coming out on "SD Bluray"? I mean they ripped us off for the "Freddie Tribute" Bluray, I mean - come on, what was the point of releasing the Freddie Tribute on Bluray at all when it was only in SD? But this 6 disc dvd set, takes the biscuit, For just the "RIO" DVD to be a VHS rip, well, just another blatant "No Effort at all" attempt for QPL to get us to part with our money. Sad, Sad, Times....Blu Ray can show SD in higher quality video than DVD can due to higher bit rate, and the sound can be better due to better audio codecs. Also you can fit more on one disc with Blu Ray. Nothing wrong with SD blu rays as a concept. What annoys me about the Freddie Tribute is that it was shot on PAL but has only been made availably converted to NTSC frame rates on either DVD or Blu Ray. If there have been a PAL DVD I would have bought that to get the correct frame rate. |

Here you can find the tracklist: link |
