Hi, Queenzoners !
Which version do you think the band has the best live performance of Hammer to fall ?
* 1st show in Brussels (24/08/84), Vienna' 84 , Live Aid , Wembley (12/7/86) or in other show ???
It is open to poll ;)
Stuttgart 1984, and the first three Japanese 1985 versions are great. Those are probably the best versions on the Works Tour.
Live Aid's probably the definitive version overall, and the 1st Vienna and Barcelona versions from the Magic Tour are excellent as well.
Live Aid is great - full of energy, passion and power: but it also has a small flaw where Freddie cuts off early and so makes the ending abrupt. Second night at Wembley '86 is my favourite - true magic :)
Stuttgart is a cracker. Osaka 15/5/85 last concert in japan on masterport is a superb recording and great version of HTF. its a hairs on your arms stander upper.

I thought it was Roger miscuing the ending? Freddie was yelling "one more time" and I took that to mean that the band were gonna play the riff once then end it.
^ Could be, Greg, it just always sounded to me like Fred had cut off early and the rest frantically tried to catch up lol.
I'll review that again later :)

I agree with Thistleboy, the 2nd Wembley night was brilliant especially Brian's solo, one of the best I have heard him do live or studio, and the rest of the band weren't too shabby either except for Freddie's yeah yeahs at the end where his voice seemed to have cracked completely or he was out of breath.
The Live Aid one is a little scrappy, but I agree it's still wonderful. I don't think the end is a miscue BTW.
For me the Live Magic (cassette edit) version is best. First time I heard it.

It definitely was. Not long after the gig Roger was quoted saying his monitor mix was crap, so it's probably a case of him not being able to hear Freddie trying to cue into the ending of the song.

That's the Wembley second night. Although Brian misses out on the first solo completely, it's still a killer version overall.
Yeah, I think it benefits from the edit in the middle to be honest. Love watching that performance too but the sound on Live Magic I find more pleasing.
The Live Aid cock up looks like nerves to be honest. I think that's why I don't like it as it's a bit shaky.
Loved watching it again just now, a performance I don't usually pay too much mind to.
In regards to the sound, especially the guitar, I
really lilke the version from the Tribute.
Live Aid offers Freddie in great voice shape, but overall
I would go for Stuttgard '84.
Yes I know what you mean, q+pr did give it someting else a bit different. Pr did a good job. People knock him but he had big boots to fill. Some good version's came from brians solo shows check out hamberg 98.
I've always considered the Live Aid version the best. So much energy and power put into it. But there are some more great live versions out there, I believe.
