first to start off when i found out it was fake in 5 seconds because the pitch is up by +1, the tape hiss is fake, the muted vocals are done on audacity or adobe audition; And so many people bought the lie.
I believe it was way before audacity and the like - it was done by taking the vinyl and turning the left channel down when re-recording it to tape. It sucks big time, and is one of the worst attempts at a "demo" I've ever heard.
i heard a similar one that was done with "Misfire" back in the 80s....
i remember hearing something similar on a old stereo years before...on a stereo with dodgy stylus connections.
i managed to replicate the "Misfire outtake" by doing the same thing disconnecting each little plug from the back of the stylus arm in turn - and eventually arrived at a perfect playback version of this "outtake" direct from LP playback
try it with MW - - if you have a turntable - you'll see it works
Yeah, that Misfire one was absolutely terrible. All of these shitty fakes can be found on a bootleg CD called "Golden Demos 1973-1976" on the old Royalty Music label (I think!) Bohemian Rhapsody was another crappy effort. Here's the sleeve: link
Its different to listening to just one channel.. it is a technique called 'out of phase' stereo where you remove all the sounds that appear down the centre 'shared' channel in normal stereo. Sounds shit now but would have been a revelation in the days before the internet.... I used to do this, 'Long Away' is particularly good because you get a true instrumental.. the vocal completely disappears...
