Do you think that somebody did buy it? We're all waiting for new Roger Taylor solo album, and Live At the Rainbow. Unfortunely new Brian May& Kerry Ellis live album there's not new tracks. Unfortunely Brian May already not writes new songs. Only supports voiceless singers
oh. well. i bought it.
i wouldn't say that ms. ellis is voiceless. although her performances used to be better in the past (NOBY...). indeed i like her voice a lot (maybe i'm the only one here :-). and in terms of music i'd say that the arrangements of most the songs are quite nice. simple and effective.
just my 2c.
just have a listen to "life is real" for example. just beautiful! and you hear they have a lot of fun doing CTLCL... not too bad.
on the flipside i think that "i who have nothing" worked out waaaay better in it's euro-pop-version they used to do some time ago. ...and i don't have a clue why we need a xmas-song this summer... nevermind :-)
yeah. we're all waiting for a new album by roger. since 2009... at least. but it's pointless to me sitting around waiting and ignoring other stuff.
well .... I may get some criticism for what I'm going to say, but I think the fact that Brian is not getting much atention here is just ... Brian's own fault.
We all know what a brilliant musician he is, but at the same time many of us feel frustraded for what we've been missing from him in recent years in terms of musical output. I mean, musical output from him and by him, not for other artists / singers.
Of course Brian can and must do whatever he wants with his life and musical career, but for sure he could've written a much more ... let's say "respected" script, as a musician.
He's still very revered not only by fans but indeed by many fellow musicians from different generations (please note I said "musicians"; not Adam Lamberts, Dappys or that korean horse rider), so I believe he's missed the oportunity of doing the quality stuff that a guy with his background could've done.
Once again: he can do whatever he wants with his musical career. But we're allowed to regret whatever we want, too :)
At least Roger, despite ala Chinese Democracy style, is still willing to do his stuff (yeah, there are some downs from his side too - the Extravaganza thing) but that's just what we all, Queen fans, Roger / Brian fans, would like from them: being musicians, like many other professionals from their generation.
I'm glad I'm a David Bowie fan too, so I can suffer his ten years hiatus just to enjoy such a glorious return.
Well, there's a review of Brian and Kerry on Brian's website, and the writer thinks that Brian is the show, he barely mentions Kerry except to say she has a voice to admire, not love, when Brian obviously wants it to be a Kerry vehicle. Can't force stuff down people's throats. I don't get the Kerry thing, nice voice, zero charisma for rock but a great theater singer I guess. He's earned the right to work with who he wants, but damn, horrible choices for about 20 years now.
It should be noted that the latest live release is not on a major label, right? Certainly not the record company Queen are on currently, right? It certainly is not being promoted or getting airplay...or is it? So I think it can be safe to say that there is no promotion for it I guess.
I only remember back in 1993 one song getting played on the radio in terms of any solo recordings getting airplay that I know about here in the U.S . of A. (That was a track (and I can't remember which one though I think it was "I'm Scared") from "Back To The Light" and was obviously new at the time.)
Kelly has a great voice, and sings beautifully!
Of course i would rather see Brian performing with Queen+, but that doesn't mean that this project isn't good.
I think I see signs of Brian backing off the "it's a showcase for Kerry" thing:
1) This half of the tour has more Red Special than the previous half.
2) The Kissing Me Song ended up rockier than when played on the first half of the tour.
I always said he held himself back on Anthems and live - to promote Kerry. I'd like to think he's getting better.
I actually think she can do well with "full bore Brian". :-)
I've listened to the album and i must say she sings beautifully. For example no-one but you is nicely done, also life is real is nicely done. She has a nice voice. Enjoyable to listen to.
And yeah, she is hot! :-)
it's nice to see that i am not the only one who likes ms ellis for having a fantastic voice and being hot :-)
i'd prefer her voice over rodger's a dozen times. but it's true... she's no front-(wo)man for a rock band. sad but true.
although i disagree about NOBY. i prefer some older versions. that for one line in the song... "...there's a face at the window". man, she had guts when she sang it for the first few times. that spirit seems to have gone.
nevertheless the new album grows on me...
I never imagined the day would come when Brian fucking May would be putting out albums that I have absolutely no intention of buying or desire to listen to.
Damn.
