Same old, same old with the Queen tracks. Lets face it, it's only really going to be die hard Queen (and I suppose Kerry?) fans at these shows - why not utilise the format, and having a voice that has the range, to explore some alternative album tracks? Despite his regular protestations to the contrary, Brian really is just so frightened to 'break out' and celebrate the legacy isn't he? The last 'wow' moments for me were when they did Long Away, Tenement Funster and Sleeping on the Sidewalk with Taylor Hawkins, and perhaps Roger's solo tours when he did Ride The Wild Wind, and The Cross first live dates when tracks like Laugh or Cry, It's An Illusion and I'm In Love With My Car (different arrangement and in full) were first aired. |

I've been to Salisbury last November... Brian did a solo performance of Good Company... Just Brian and his ukelele.... THAT was breathtaking! |
oliverd05 19.06.2013 04:19 |
Yeahh i bet Good Company was amazing! seen a lot of videos of that performance on youtube, but its never as 100% good as actually being in the same room is it!! |

I was at springsteen gig last night, now that was a raw and changeable set list... I wish queen would alter wwry/watc (similar to fwbf in the middle, that freshened it up in 86) I did enjoy hammersmith with al and im hopefull for more scope to intorduce some non hits... Can anyone recall that queen (bm/rt) were due to do a jools holland slot one xmas and an unplugged US special, if my memory serve me well with these then these would have been great... One more quote i can recall is they played about with the idea of having rt doing some guitar in a queen show (freddie era)... As we know never happened.. |

Nightjar_ wrote: Can anyone recall that queen (bm/rt) were due to do a jools holland slot one xmas and an unplugged US special, if my memory serve me well with these then these would have been great...Yes - Q&PR were due to play Jools Holland's NYE show one year, but they just didn't - it was very late in the day that they pulled out but I have no idea why. Yes - they were due to do a VH1 Storytellers live thing in New York in 2001, and the date was confirmed in the Fan Club magazine etc.... but it never happened. I recall that it may have been cancelled due to 9/11, but I don't know why it wasn't moved elsewhere or rescheduled. I also remember reading earlier in 2001 that they had changed the format and were going to record several sessions with different vocalists and then have these broadcast as one show, but they certainly didn't do any of these either before Sept 2001. That would have been great - an intimate show with reputable guest vocalists, with different treatments of some songs, and Brian and Roger singing some too, exploring the catalogue and chatting through the ideas of the songs, with anecdotes. |

Just found the following from a Google seach, which gives results from the old 'Brianmayworld.com' web archive. Seems that the VH1 thing was due to actually be ON 9/11, but was then pulled in August (ie BEFORE 9/11) and due to be rescheduled for later in the year, but clearly wasn't. Maybe it wasn't remounted due to the terrorist stuff (fair enough) but that WASN'T the original reason it didn't happen........ ------------------------------------------ Thursday, August 16th 2001 Queen concert postponed (source: Official Queen Fan Club Website) The Queen concert in New York (VH1 Storytellers) has been postponed until later in the year. More information will follow as soon as I get them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, July 26th 2001 Full Queen concert live in New York (source: Official Queen Fan Club Website) the following was posted today and is straight from the Official Queen Fan Club website: As it's now "public knowledge": Queen are joining forces with Foo Fighters dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins to host the Storytellers live gig on September 9th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. It will be for an audience of approximately 1500. At present I have no idea of how or when tickets will be available. It could be "invite only", they could be on sale, they could be free on a first come first served basis, once I find out I will let you know. I have requested an amount of tickets for UK and European fans who might want to attend, but haven't been given any indication of whether we will get them yet. There will be about five guest vocalists, including Dave and Taylor, but the others as yet unconfirmed. The show will be filmed by VH1 and aired across North America, it will also eventually be available on DVD worldwide. |
