The rapper has made no secret of his admiration for Queen Psy may have another future hit on his hands after revealing that he is meeting with Queen guitarist Brian May to discuss the prospect of them collaborating together. The South Korean hitmaker has proved to be a success on his own merit following the viral popularity of his singles 'Gangnam Style' and 'Gentleman,' but it looks as though he may finally be getting help from a member of one of the most legendary bands ever. Speaking to Radio 1's Scott Mills on Monday, Psy revealed that he had a scheduled meeting with guitarist Brian May the following day. “You remember that I was and I am a really huge fan of rock band Queen? It seems like I’m going to have a brunch with Brian May tomorrow,” Psy told the DJ on Tuesday. Hinting at a possible collaboration, Psy added: “Seems like it. I don’t know, I’m just going to eat tomorrow, but I’m super excited. The band was an inspiration to me since I was 14 or 15 until now.” Earlier this week, Psy also praised late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, describing him as a huge influence on his career. “If it wasn't for Queen at Wembley, I wouldn't be a pop star,” Psy told The Sun in reference to his performance at Capital FM's Summertime Ball on Sunday. ''When I was growing up I would watch Freddie Mercury with all those fans in the palm of his hand. He is the best.'' Meanwhile, it was revealed this week that the video for Psy's latest single 'Gentleman' has now clocked up more than 400 million views on YouTube meaning he is well on his way to enjoying similar success top 'Gangnam Style,' which became the first music video to pass the one billion mark in December. link |

When you think back to the 70s and 80s, and all the great true artists that Queen could have collaborated with in the studio, and all we got was Bowie (and some Jackson and Rod Stewart which has never seen the light of day), yet for the last 15 years Brian has just whored himself around the absolute bottom of the barrel in a clear attempt to get that all elusive number 1 single in each decade to keep the pattern going (70s, 80s, 90, 00s, etc..). I have no aversion to him working with credible artists (even the Lady Ga Ga track was pretty good), but there is no way he can claim that working with the likes of Dappy, Psy, Britney, Five etc... is for artistic reasons, and is anything other than a publicity driven affair. Having seen a pic of the 'brunch' it features Kerry Ellis - I bet she hates feeling obliged to say "yes of course Brian, I'd love to" when he says keeps turning up on her doorstep and saying "fancy recording a charity song in aid of lions?", "fancy recording a charity song in aid of badgers?", "fancy recording a crap novelty Queen cover with Psy (in aid of lions and badgers)?"............... |

Please no. It's okay, I can just exist in my own blissfully ignorant reality where Brian and his actions only existed pre-98 or so. |

Brian confirms collaboration with Psy and more with Adam Lambert: link Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed plans to collaborate with Gangnam Style sensation PSY. Speaking to MTV News UK on the Kerrang! Awards black carpet, the rock legend revealed he had brunch with the Korean phenomenon in London this week to talk about working together. "I met the guy and we had a very interesting chat," he told us. "He's a very thoughtful man and a significant artist. He's also encyclopaedic about Queen and says the reason he wanted to sing is because he saw Queen at Wembley '86 on video. "We have a couple of ideas, so yeah I'm up for it." The 65-year-old, who last year featured on Dappy's second solo single Rockstar, continued: "I've had all sorts of people tweeting me saying 'How could you do that? He's a popstar!' and thinking it's very trivial, but 1.6 billion hits on YouTube you don't get for nothing. "Rock and roll is not a closed shop, you've got to have an open mind in life, and a lot of the most interesting stuff happens when you interact with someone you never would've dreamed you could interact with." Following three sold-out nights at London's Hammersmith Apollo last summer, May also disclosed plans to do another Queen show with Adam Lambert as their frontman. "We are talking about doing something with Adam, probably for TV," he revealed to us. "He's an amazing artist and a very nice guy. We keep in touch and have a good friendship. "We're not talking about touring yet, but we are talking about doing an event." |

I'm really, really going off Brian. There's only so much I can defend him with the argument that "he's a musician, let him do what he loves as long as we still have a chance to hear him" before it stops sounding credible, and I have definitely reached that point. Brian: you're your own man and, of course, are free to do what you like. But PSY???? Take a look at yourself mate, it's becoming embarrassing. I defended Q+PR, I defended Q+Robbie, I defended the Extravaganza, the WWRY musical, the badger/lion stuff......hec, I even took a peek at the stuff with Adam Lambert - but it's just getting completely ridiculous now. This notion is just SHIT, and is indefensible. FFS, you're a kind, caring, intelligent and conscientious man. You work tirelessly for your profession, for our musical pleasure, and for all sorts of charities. You're an absolute musical genius, (in my eyes) the greatest guitarist ever, a well respected musician among your peers - in fact, the word "legend" is a fucking understatement. But the dignity is going now. Give this sort of crap up before you lose all respect and make a complete and utter tool of yourself. |
Robbe100 17.06.2013 05:21 |
The reason for those 1.6 billion hits was not becouse he is such a great artist . You know how he got those ? For making a fool out of himself with that stupid dance.Combined with that ear-destroying music. I want to make a 'What's next ?' joke but I can't becouse this is just over the top ridiculous. I am so happy that Roger does his solo records instead of stuff like this . |

Psigh... I could deal with Brian's musical diversions before now - Lambert and Gaga weren't even bad by comparison - but this is just ridiculous. I truly feel ashamed of what my friends who are only casual Queen fans must constantly see from them these days, and what sort of perception of Brian it must give them. |

Don't go putting words in my mouthYou didn't write the word yourself, but you didn't contest it in any way when you continued the description of the so called artist. You can't assume that people know what you are thinking of, if you don't write it down for others to see. |

Since Freddie died, Brian has been torn in some strange directions, like playing along side Paul Rodgers, acceptable but Adam Lambert, Dappy and now psy? Bad bad move. Brian slags freddie off when he wandered into the gay club scene in the 80s and Hot Space was born, but really Brian playing with thug rappers, your better than that man! Dont sell yourself short, your a legend. I do not like Adam Lambert, he is cheap and is not worthy of sucking freddies toes! He is only sticking to May & Taylor to further his career, and i will never buy a cd with hes voice on it. Wake up Brian, if you want to record with a great star why not, Tina Turner, or Paul McCartney? |
gerry 25.06.2013 13:25 |
Hey you are absolutley right, brian has lost the plot. He is a massive legend so why is he playing with thug rappers? freddie would say maggie may has lost the plot! We know he went odd touring with crappy adam lambert god knows what he was thinking, but us ardent Queenies know he is better than that. i would rather he played with artists hes own calibre, rossi/parfitt or scott gorham, paul Mcartney, Tina Turner, elton john, George Michael. not gangham style rapp knob heads! Another one bites the Dust, me thinks! |
pma 25.06.2013 14:50 |
This is going to be great, I can't wait. I suggest the following collaborations: Oppa Poodle-style Motherfather Poodleman or perhaps they will record some monotonic three-chord techno song with incomoprehensible korean lyrics about wanting girls, with an odd hook in english... oh wait, that was his whole gimmick. |
