link what he says in the video is true?...or he's just lying to cover his ripoff? |
Nick Browning 08.06.2013 18:35 |
yeah, but he still stole it |
Sheer Brass Neck 08.06.2013 19:22 |
No inside knowledge but would guess he's lying his ass off. Jim Beach is not giving up history and future income for $4 million. Someone ask Brian. |

I have not watched the clip or what have but I hope to God that this information is incorrect. |

Is this true? Cant imagine selling for 4 mil...no way. |
inu-liger 08.06.2013 22:16 |
I e-mailed Brian about this last year, and he responded that it was not true at all |
soxtalon 09.06.2013 06:33 |
I didn't actually listen to the video since I'm at work but is it possible that he means that after the lawsuit, he now owns the Ice Ice Baby song completely. As in the payoff was for future royalties....so now if someone plays Ice Ice Baby he gets all the royalties? |
Dan C. 09.06.2013 06:57 |
What a fucking joke. |

soxtalon wrote: is it possible that he means that after the lawsuit, he now owns the Ice Ice Baby song completely. It was 4 million dollars and it was one of the best investments-- DJ: You own Under Pressure now? Vanilla Ice: Yeah. Yeah.... The same way Michael Jackson bought the Beatles. People can buy the publishing.... It was a great investment. It was better than keep paying the royalties. So he's talking about publishing rights, not the recording. But I still can't imagine Queen would sell that. |
AlexRocks 09.06.2013 11:42 |
Yeah, someone ought to clear that up. Though Inu-liger has come close to doing so I must say. |
AdamMethos 09.06.2013 12:45 |
He's been telling this story for a while. From a Feb 22, 2010 interview on CNN: link VANILLA ICE: A lot of people questioned me -- did you sample "Under Pressure" from David Bowie and Queen? And, you know, this was before the lawsuit came. Now, of course, we know I did. But at the time, you know, everybody knew I did, but I couldn't come out on camera and just go, I did, because that, you know, automatically admits it. So we were going through a lawsuit at the time and, you know, the -- it's a great song. The great thing is, is I bought back all my royalties and I bought that song, too. So it kind of comes back around, kind of like Michael Jackson both The Beatles. So, you know, there's a reason for that. And now I -- I can do whatever I want with it, because I own it. |
cmsdrums 09.06.2013 13:23 |
He clearly doesn't own Under Pressure (look at the publishing and copyright rights when it comes out on compilations) but I suppose he may now have the right to take all income from Ice Ice Baby when it's played, and licence that track for adverts etc without any knout from Queen |
dowens 09.06.2013 23:20 |
Vanilla Ice is an idiot. Isn't it amazing that John Deacon wrote two of the most iconic bass riffs on the history of rock? This and AOBTD. |
soxtalon 10.06.2013 06:34 |
I think he is an idiot and doesn't know what he's talking about. I think he did get the song rights as it pertains to Ice Ice Baby most likely and he believes that means he has the song. |
dive2063 10.06.2013 07:39 |
What a lame jerk he is ... |
GinjaNinja 10.06.2013 11:33 |
I thought it was Bowie who actually came up with the riff? |
dysan 10.06.2013 11:41 |
Accounts vary. I think it was Deacon, and I really like the story that they jammed it then went to the pub and promptly forgot it. I think the evidence that Bowie came up with the riff is solely on the fact it lacks from People On Streets, which was the UP demo. Chances are IF Bowie came up with it, it was itself nicked from one of his own players at the time (he did that a bit) so we should probably be asking George Murray. |
YourValentine 11.06.2013 02:44 |
John Deacon wrote the bass riff according to the surviving Queen members. Vanilla Ice certainly did not buy "Under Pressure", he paid up for using the riff without asking permission. After the lawsuit the songwriter credits were given to Queen and David Bowie. He seems to like to rewrite history in his favour like claiming he sold 160 million records, which is very unlikely imo. |
Snackpot 11.06.2013 06:37 |
Maybe 'Vanilla' owns the rights to use it e.g not face future lawsuits based on continued promotion of Ice Ice Baby. I'd very much doubt he would own the song. I doubt whether an early 90s rap star with one hit song and 20 years of being an F-list celebrity who'd have to be giving oral sex to the corpse of Princess Diana to be even considered news worthy these days - has or has ever had a spare $4m for anything, let aone this. |
malicedoom 11.06.2013 10:24 |
Vanilla Ice. Douche bag. |
dowens 11.06.2013 12:28 |
"People on the Streets" is the "Under Pressure" demo? I thought it was "Feel Like"? |

You are all jealous of Ice because his song was bigger than Bowie and those fags in Queen could ever dream of take away Wayne's World and they are nothing. Stop hating that Ice is a genius. It's public record get off your fat asses and leave your parents basement for once and do the research. You will see he bought the publishing rights for $3,980,456. Anyway homos enjoy your lame Queen listen to some up to date music and before you ask no I don't still listen to Ice. Wait before I go love this one "Brian could you find out about this for us" can you say lazy |

LOL...jealous of Ice??? That's pretty hilarious considering Ice never did much. Personally...Ice and Queen don't belong in the same sentence...Some people are totally deaf and blind. |
musicland munich 25.12.2013 02:44 |
I can remember that there was a lawsuit. It ends up with a "Vergleich" (german/ I don't know the correct english translation) ICE have to pay and he was free to use the sample in his song(s). Just my personal memorys. Next point of interest..who wrote the baseline...not so easy as it seems. John himself mentioned in an interview that Bowie comes up with it ( maybe he was ironic cause Bowie was "supercoked" that day and his behavior was that of an classic @sshole). Maybe John played a rough line and Bowie give some advice to change the riff a bit. Who knows. |
jrd1951 25.12.2013 10:39 |
...er he doesn't own it,he owns the rights to any future broadcast royalties of Ice Ice Baby or whatever it is called,so that he doesn't have to pay for Under Pressure.Simple,really.............. |
br5946 03.01.2014 11:26 |
What I find truly sad is the fact when the 'dun-dun-dun-da-da-dun-dun' of Under Pressure is played, 95% of the modern generation will instantly start chanting 'ice, ice baby...' like Vanilla Ice is one of the best rappers ever. Having only 2 top 10 hits barely makes one of the best. Especially when one is a rap cover of a funk song (Play that Funky Music) and the other is clearly a rip-off. The Ice track was released in 1990. Pressure was done in 1981. Some people need to do their maths. |

Vanilla Ice doesn't even own his own ass. It is, as they say, "property of Queen Productions"..... |
