I've always liked this underrated song from the Innuendo album. Now I have two topics I'd like to discuss about it. 1) Does anyone else think that the part 0:40-1:08 is absolutely amazing? I love Freddie's deep voice so much! I really wish he could have sung more songs like this. Of course he used this kind of voice also on some other Innuendo tracks. 2) At 1:48 that's Roger singing right? "Tie your hair back baby". It's amazing how a man in such a bad shape could sing so amazingly as Freddie did on the Innuendo album. Stunning! |

I love that song a lot myself. It rocks just as much as Headlong and The Hitman while also being more subtle. It has a very nice layered guitar solo. I didn't fully realize how good that solo bit is until I heard Roger's demo version, which only has the low end part. 1. Yup, Freddie sounds very nice on that first verse. He has some very nice vocal moments all over the album; it seems like he's being more experimental than usual, for obvious reasons. 2. Um, I that's definitely still Freddie there. |

Weakest song on the album for me. |

Er ,All Gods People and Freddies song about his fat cat are surely the weakest bits on the whole album by far !!! |

Including All Gods People and Delilah? |

I agree with you. The track shows a lot of potentials that would be so interesting to be expored in other projects. Freddie's deep layed back voice and mood, Brian's "distant" and a bit oriental ( at least in my ears) /melancholy sound. It gives a hint for intriguing directions and variations for the Queen sound post 1991 that unfortunately could never happen. |

I disagree with the comments on All Gods People, I love that track. It adds so much to the album, it's totally different to anything else on there, in a good way. Ride The Wild Wind is also one of my favourites on the album, it's a great song. Overall I think it's one of their strongest albums and always a pleasure to listen to. Freddies voice gives me goosebumps every time I listen to certain tracks on Innuendo. |

All God's People is a great bit of composition and orchestration. I can definitely understand why people wouldn't want to listen to it often; it's a bit of an earful. When you come right down to it, it's a bit like Mustafa - a lot going on musically, but definitely not something you'd put in the Easy Listening bucket. It's the same reason I couldn't stand Kate Bush when I was a teenager - a lot of musical content, but a tone of voice that just annoyed the fuck out of me when my sister would listen to it at 9AM in the morning. (I've since matured - no, really). As for Ride the Wild Wind - if it wasn't for the outro of The Chain being so bad-ass, it would've made for a great bit of F1 music. |

The Hitman - should have been a great sounding Queen rocker but it sounds thin and VERY weak - as though its been recorded through cheap mono headphones.......... All Gods People - I kind-a like this because of its harkening back to Somebody To Love and that soulful swing. Delilah - funny and typically Freddie; should have NO PLACE on a Queen album though - save that shit for a solo project. RTWW - great track - very Queen and great vocal work and percussion. Absolutely no complaints with that whatsoever. |

I've always loved Ride the Wild Wind. It's a great driving song at night...great tempo, great drums, great guitar solo, just great overall. One of my favorite tracks on my fav Queen album. |

Am I the only one who prefers Roger's version on the Deluxe edition? The 'Hey, Hey, Hey!' refrain is more befitting than the sample in the album take. |

However when i discovered it in my teens i thought it was great for my ears. Just blasting it throgh the headphones gave me a panoramic wide spectrum of sounds and things that made my adrenaline go wild. Well it has to do with age and how much you are able to take in i guess. ( ...this post makes me sound like an old fart btw) |

I like that track. It makes me regret the fact I've not yet owned a convertible. To me, total driving song. |

I like both Ride The Wild Wind And All God's People, Especially the Middle section. The only weak Part of Innuendo for me is Delilah and The Hitman... |

RTWW; great song - would've been excellent live This topic made me think; didn't Queen work better under pressure or with a deadline E.g ANATO, the bounce-back on The Works (maybe a bit cliched in context)... |
Martin Packer 08.06.2013 09:37 |
Given there WAS no Freddie solo album I'm so very glad Delilah ended up on Innuendo. I like RTWW but thought it could've developed more. But I'm always thinking things could do with developing more without a clue as to how. :-) |

Good thread - made me really think about the album as I haven't listened to if for a while. I love RTWW, but find AGP a bit cheap, maybe overlong? Not sure what I'd dump off the album though. Probably Headlong? |

ANAGRAMER wrote: ...didn't Queen work better under pressure or with a deadline. E.g ANATO, the bounce-back on The Works (maybe a bit cliched in context)...Very good question. ANATO was in effect a survival album, they were making no money, struggling artists etcetera, and they're creative juices flowed. The Works was an expand/keep our audience album. I think after a while they became bored and that shows in their songwriting. They were writing for their (hopefully new) audience and not for themselves. Up until Jazz I'd say they wrote for themselves, after that they wrote for whatever audience they thought they'd find. |

Not sure what I'd dump off the album though. Probably Headlong?Speaking of Headlong, I also love how Freddie sings the part "when a red hot man meets a white hot lady" and also the following line. So much attitude and energy! For me Innuendo definitely has Freddie's best voice usage. I'm most fond of his deep calm voice and also the one he uses in the example above and I Want it All. Of course, the first lines of TSMGO are also pure magic. It's a shame that he had to die so soon after the release of Innuendo. I'm sure the next "real" album would have been even more amazing sound-wise. |

ride the wild wind is a fucking amazing track, my third favorite of innuendo album |
dowens 09.06.2013 23:50 |
The entire Innuendo album is amazing, beginning to end. And once you understand the Queen story and what Freddie did to be able to sing on that album...makes it even more incredible and powerful. The album is very much like Queen in full circle. Full of drama, rock, fun (Slightly Mad and Delilah are just fun, come on), and the last loop of "go on, go on, go on" for TSMGO left me (and still does!) speechless. Pure genius. |

I listened to RTWW and IGSM this morning and was like all YEAH!! |

By the way, I really like "Delilah," it has a cool beat, and Freddie sings great ... as always. |

I just found out today that the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the words "Into each life some rain must fall" in the poem "The Rainy Day". Sounds familiar ? |

"Ride The Wild Wind" was an instant standout track on the Innuendo album, for *me*, when it was released in '91. The song had "HIT SINGLE" written all over it, imo. I really think that it should have been the first single released from the album, here in the U.S.. It would have fit very well into what was happening at the time...that whole techno-rock mix. |
