Around 2001, a Linda McCartney album was going to be released (and then cancelled) featuring renditions of songs by Paul & Linda McCartney covered by various artists.
It was stated by Jacky (if my memory serves me correctly) that Brian & Roger had recorded a version of "Souvenir" (originally released in the 1997 "Flaming Pie" album).
Since then, I have never heard again anything else about this. Does any one have more information on this?
Yup, I recall this as well. I just know it was in the pipeline, along with a VH1 Storytellers-type thing that was planned for September 2001, but then 9/11 happened and it was canceled. (I believe it was going to be in New York.)
Funny. Since everything got so dull on here I was just going to post the same inquiry a day ago. ... proof positive that if you've ever got an "original idea" odds are someone is thinking the same.
If I remember it correctly there was a quote attributed to Roger about going into the studio to rework the song for that album. The article or release made mention of Paul's song and its r&b soul style.
I was thrilled to hear that the band was going to do something new again as well.
I can't seem to locate the bulletins from the era they've probably been archived. Or I just can't locate it on my mobile device.
Only found these two fansite links.
The storytellers concert apparently had a SEPTEMBER NINTH dating. ...
So get out that Brian's curse page. All indications are that it would have occurred prior to the alleged terrorist incident which took so many people's lives link
One other site attributes a news story day to April 14 th 2001
Let's just assume it's been wished away to the corn field like the rainbow release and the unblinking eye
Ask Brian
I remember reading about it many years ago but the song was never released in the end. I don't even remember if this was a done deal, as in "Brian and Roger recorded..." or if they were about to do so.
it's a nice song, and if "fits" queen very well, guess we'll have to wait some leak. That song and the "queen" version of the Dennis Wilson track that was recorded with Taylor are the coolest unheard ones for me.
