Do not shout me down for this but what is a fanthology.
What is the point of a Queen fanthology.
Who is in the fanthology.
Who can join the fanthology.
How does anyone contribute to the fanthology.
What does a fanthology mean to me.
1 - It seems to me that a fanthology is a group of specialist collectors (in demos, out-takes, oddities and the like) who have gathered to collate the most comprehensive database of the archives out there, outwith what QPL have in their collection. They seem to have tracks that are not yet widespread, and have been using these to trade for tracks of equal rarity value from a "clique" (I don't like this word, but for want of a better one) of like-minded collectors. It is not fully understood how each collector came to have their initial gems in the first place, that is just ours to speculate - but it could be from an archivist, QPL management, record label staff, QPL staff, a recording technician, a roadie or even a friend of the band. Perhaps even from a member of the band? Who knows? However, each member appears to have uploaded (in private, for the other members of the group) their own collection, so that each member has EVERY little thing currently available.
2 - To create a full database of demos, oddities and so on from the Queen/ Solo archives (and beyond). To ultimately try and obtain all that possibly can be obtained.
3 - Who knows? At the very least, it's JSS, Jam Monkey and (formerly) Fuller. Reading between the lines, it seems to me (at least) that Lord Gaga and Brian's Wig may be part of it (forgive me if I'm off the mark there) - but there's obviously a good few more. Some seem to be vocal about it, others not. Again it's ours to speculate, but contrary to popular belief, Inu is NOT in it.
4 - Fuck knows. It seems to be by invitation, based on knowledge of who the big-hitters in the collecting world seem to be. I would LOVE to have been asked, but I've been out of the loop for about a decade. I do have contacts who may be able to help out, but they seem to be totally indifferent to the whole thing. I guess that means, for the time being, the Fanthology won't have access to the whole loot.
5 - See 4 :)
6 - Again, I may be totally off the mark, but I'm hoping that once everything that's possible has been obtained (and there's nothing left to bargain with or to hold onto), the tracks may be leaked - either in small dribs and drabs, or as one major download. Nobody should EXPECT that this will be the case, however, as lots of monies - and trades - have been brokered over the years for these lucky sods to obtain what they currently have. Regardless of their means, I wouldn't have minded having the opportunities they have had to get what they have lol.
Let's just wait and see :)
Thank you Thistleboy that was a very good and decent answer. Again I don't now but if I get it wrong say so. This is how I read it.
I hope that the fanthology will release these sets in time and my guess is they will or why not call themselves the Queen secret society or the Queen collectors union. to me fanthology sounds like an anthology made by fans for fans so if thats their true name and not a sarcastic queenzone name I think we should leave them to get on with it.
Is this the idea behind fanthology. http://www.webgrafikk.com/beatles1/pc/index.html link
Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!
Seriously, if you pay money for them you were ripped off - someone somewhere sold what they obtained for free. Not cool.
if this is the idea behind it why all the trolling and flaming and antifanthology sentiment. if anything the folks here in queenzone should be 100% supportive and totally behind it. these sort of releases would take a lot of time and planning and money and it would need the support of big collectors and like mark said in another thread why not even contribute.
looking through other mails all I read is I demand share share share with now thought of return. why not flip that and ask what can I contribute. I am sure jss and jammonkey can be contacted.
