Let's go deeper, shall we?
From Wikipedia: "A species is often defined as a group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring."
What is an organism? Let's let the Free Encyclopedia answer that for us as well.
"In biology, an organism is any contiguous living system (such as animal, fungus, micro-organism, or plant). In at least some form, all types of organisms are capable of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth and development, and maintenance of homeostasis as a stable whole."
You could argue that, along with reproducing, computers respond to stimuli, can grow and develop, and can maintain homeostasis.
So what does it mean to be "living?" Well, Wikipedia gives pretty much the same definition to "Life" as it does to "Organism."
So, this is a pretty interesting philosophical debate. Are computers really "alive?" What constitutes life, at least in a meaningful sense? Going even deeper, what exactly is "consciousness?" Are computers conscious beings? What about, say, plants. You could make some relevant comparisons to plants and computers.
That's all very good.....but do they taste? Do they see? Do they feel? Do they touch? Do they eat, drink, or make love?
If the answer is yes, then maybe the OP can get one to amuse himself???
