inu-liger 16.05.2013 21:28 |
DEFINITELY authentic! Not sure about the "demo" status, sounds like it was closer to the mixing stage than demo stage since a lot of elements match the final album mix. |

I wonder if it was deliberately hiss reduced by the 'source' however? |

I think this is genuine too, not like those SSoR tracks or the ITtWWC? piano demo. But if this is fake, I have to congratulate the mixer. It's like a version between Highlander's one and the album one. Thank you so very much for sharing! |

And those previously unheard guitar bits are definitely not in either version :-)I completely agree, also the guitar solo without the vocals, that one which in the album version explodes with Freddie's last "Born to be kings..." at the end, it's definitely Brian's guitar, or the backing vocals at the very end, clean without all the mess around. Also, at the "Take me to the future of your world", as far as I can remember, in the Highlander version the drums go on to fade out, and in the 5.1 DTS GVHII the helicopter appers, imposible to completely isolate the vocals with all those echos. Without any intention of being boaster or arrogant: Trough the sound quality is very very different between Highlander and the album version, there's a tricky way to make them sound like from the same source, which I'm sure you already know: reducing the final mix quality, mainly the highs, and being careful with the pitch and the stereo expansion between the various sources. That way you can simulate like if the track had lost its quality because of the numerous generations which it went trough and reach an equal muddy sound to fool people more easily. Anyway, this is 100% real (I'm hitting myself in the face and it hurts. I'm not dreaming). Cheers! :) |

I seriously challenge those who are on the anti-collectors side of the fence to reveal who they REALLY are. It's probably too coincidental or convenient perhaps that those who support the collectors happen to NOT be the kind of people to hide solely behind online aliases, much like 'Anonymous' of the 4chan type. Rather weak and spineless in my personal opinion! |

This is a great share. Thank you for sharing it. I believe that Queen have made the best decisions for this AKOM lp. The final version of Princes is very well balanced. As for John S Stuart, it's sad that such thing happened to you, life is what it is and sometimes shit like this happens. I'm not going to be a hypocrit, i'm enjoying this new music. This is exciting and i don't believe that this is the kind of thing that Fanthology would share anyway, since some of you guys are connected to QP in some way and there's a limit to what you would share (live videos). Having said this i hope that someone at QP or Universal realise that it could be a good idea for the proper Box Set release. I can't understand their thinking. They're trying to reach to those who still don't get Queen (as i remember reading at the time of their moving to Universal), and those who get Queen, and supported the band all these years are left to Queenzone downloads. But the really sad part of this for me, are the ones who started supporting the band in 1973, and will probably never hear this music. I'm 35 years old, so i'm not concern because i hope i will live untill the boxes are released. But for some fans that will be too late. And this i really don't understand! Just my two cents. |

What i said wasn't judgemental, only based on my perspective. I don't expect nothing from them because it's their stuff, i'm just happy to what i get. Having said this i hope that someone at QP or Universal realise that it could be a good idea for the proper Box Set release. This is the most honest and refreshing mail I think I have ever read in here. Thank you... If you enjoy the music; that makes it worthwhile. This is where we as a QZ community have lost the plot (IMO). Queenzone is like an iceberg in that 9/10ths of it's membership is below the waterline and never to be seen. Queenzone has over 1,000 members. Many Lurkers, and many leechers. (Now I do not use that word contentiously so bear with me)... Many contribute ideas. Many contribute music, many contribute information, many contribute anecdotes, some contribute the odd humorous (or even sarcastic line)... but most QZ'ers (90% by my above calculations) contribute nothing, zip, nada. Not one word not even a Thank-you for something they have downloaded for free, and then they have the cheek to expect more - or worse still complain when they don't get it! Look at the number of times this track has been downloaded (over 230 at last count) . Now look at the number of replies to this thread. Now examine how many replies to this thread have included a "thank you", or a "kind" or a "positive word". Remember: Those "Thank yous" represent less than 1% of 1% of the total downloaders! Now I am not getting at those "regular readers" who may take this personally, and think that I am having a go at them. Not at all. That is NOT why I wrote this. You are not my audience. You are a regular reader. You are a contributor, you write the odd comment now and again, you take part in the odd discussion, and (more importantly) you freely express your opinion and that makes for a great diversity. My beef is with the silent majority who (in my opinion) just come here to take, take, take what they can and then sod off without even as much as a by your leave, because all they after is what they can get (like the Dementers in Harry Potter); and sod everyone else... That I find truly disappointing. I may be wrong; but of course the evidence to suggest otherwise would be more thank-you notes like the one above. It is just common courtesy after all - isn't it? |

I'm not for a minute defending Fuller or JSS or anyone, it's just people say stuff on here and don't really back it upIt's not a convenient excuse. This even goes back to the briefing I was given when I was initially invited to be a part of Fanthology; They had a relatively soft timeframe they wanted to try and work with over a year or two's period in secret basically to gather up as many rarities as possible, and as many sources as possible for members to sort through and filter out the higher-generation copies in order to present the highest quality rarity possible for any given track or video; all intended to be released as a massive rarity online boxset. Especially to fill a void left by an oft-broken promise dating back to the early 1990's from QPL of such a boxset! Think something like the massive Pink Floyd "A Tree Full Of Secrets" 17CD set, and that should give you an idea of what the group wanted to achieve. What you guys seem to have a willfull stubbornly hard time coming to grips with however, is that when Fuller decided to act the part of the narcissistic Robin Hood rather than be mature and honor the group's agreements, he not only fucked over the group (who was in the middle of negotiating SEVERAL trades for material that would have been intended for release long down the road in that very set), he also fucked YOU moanzoners over as a whole. One thing that pisses me off in all of this, is that you guys BITCH, and MOAN, and BITCH about collectors hoarding wares and making you lot wait a LONG time to hear these desirable jems. The Fanthologists had decided it was time to collect together all these jems and wares, BUT to do it with the highest quality presentation in mind which many of us can agree is not even QPL's greatest strength at all with their own official releases. But all Fuller did as a result of serving his own selfish purposes, was put stopgaps which has very likely added probably anywhere from 2-?? many more years' wait for us to hear the gems virtually all in one place. WHY people are shitting more on the Fanthologists than the real crook Fuller here is absolutely beyond me. It's no wonder trying to figure out the mentality of this board's overall membership is a massive headache to take on!! |

thanks for the reply inu. I understand why everyone is pissed off with Fuller. I remember years ago when I came across his YouTube channel and to be honest I think the majority of people would agree it was tremendous. How did he acquire his stuff then? Obviously now he's the 'black sheep' , and rightly so. But on the other hand, those who have trusted him recently, why? Were they going to receive gems from him? They must have known he would put things on his YouTube channel or at least not keep them to himself? Was he a known collector before all of this kicked off? |

Again; thank you to Inu above for the voice of reason, in that - that was precisely the brief set, and that's what I do not understand. Why not Google Beatles Fanthology - and see the example what their fans set? We lost a lot of ground and a lot of friends and a lot of Goodwill. The Stupid thing is Fuller's Robin Hood act took place within a few months of the project. He didn't even have the sense to wait a year or two before cutting lose. But in the meantime it has caused more damage to the Queen community than they will ever realise, because nowadays both greed and instant gratification are more important than investment (time and effort) and quality. That's why collectors will always have the last laugh. Grateful Fan's ubiquitous utopian order was closer than she ever released (that is not a dig) and her comparison of opening a metaphorical exhibit was scuppered at the collecting/gathering stage. We never even got the opportunity to open shop. But when Fuller's well runs dry... it runs dry forever; because all the good will; will never exist again. |

Obviously now he's the 'black sheep' , and rightly so. But on the other hand, those who have trusted him recently, why? Were they going to receive gems from him? They must have known he would put things on his YouTube channel or at least not keep them to himself? Was he a known collector before all of this kicked off?. The fanthology was created to bring together people of different disciplines across the board. Fuller was brought in because of what he could offer; he was brought in for his video editing and YouTube skills and head up a sub team of sifting through hours of unreleased video footage to find the first versions. He personally uploaded nothing (the logs of uploads and downloads exist) except for a Gareth Marx YouTube video from Marx personal site. The project was a "secret" because it was a work in progress. There was also going to be a fan-made documentary by professionals in the field - but hey; that vision was destroyed. That's why all the frustration and anger. You see we know what is being drip fed now; in comparison to what could have been, and the former is a very poor substitute indeed. But why not ask him direct? He had the same brief as everyone else. If I can be arsed; I may even upload his invitation sometime. |

Thanks to those responsible for acquiring this in the first place and lesser thanks to those who are bringing them to the forum now. I'm as much of a hypocrite as many on here and will continue to download as when these rarities come up, but I can't believe attitude of those who can't see the wrongs that have been done to JSS and others. Ultimately, the majority will suffer as JSS rightly states. When Fuller's well runs dry, that'll be it for most of us. Again...I can't deny my hypocrisy...I will continue to download as and when these tracks surface...but in terms of the rights and wrongs of this I am firmly on John's side. I freely admit to being a lurker but it is extremely tiring coming to the site now. Why can't we all play nice? |

I absolutely understand the things people like inu-liger and john says. we should all be thankful when a rarity pops up like this one. It's a good thing to know that the people inside this fanthology are creating things QP won't. from time to time some rarities are shared here and come to think of it. We all got more rarities here than QP ever put out. So all the uploaders and kind people in and out the fanthology are truly amazing for sharing great things Roger, Brian and Jim won't. So let's be kind to each others and respect the gems that are shared here. Thanks to everyone who shared these gems because Roger and Brian keeps them behind closed doors and maybe someday we get to see a great boxset. |

How on earth did I miss this one? this is fantastic !!! Thankyou .... thanks for sharing ... but most specially my gratitude goes for the first source (no, Im not now talking about Queen and Mack in the studio this time!), ... I mean JSS .... and Bob, ... and Peter, y al loco Alex, and Ruth, and ... so many to name all of you. There is a good bunch of good guys here whose work and effort caused something I believe was impossible before discovering this place many ages ago: loving Queen even more ! After reading today a post from Ruth Olivier in another thread... well, I realized how much I miss the good-old QZ The excitement after a new share, the healthy discussions .... and I just wanted to thank those who contributed so much.l |

Awesome. Thank God I checked this page today. Its been forever since I've heard something new. But a cut of a song of this caliber. Multiple changes in instrumentation and some wild guitar (*sounding similar to early queen) this is woo damn awesome. Interpolation with the helicopter... love it. One thing that always stuck with me and sounded awkward was the "born to be kings... " verse. ... since I had only grown up knowing the song as the partial theme from highlander This version, though clearly thematic and set for film FEELS better. Just my opinion though. It IS one of their oddest songs. Super awesome-o powwa! Thank you. |

Many many thanks for this! I am a huge Highlander fan. I actually became a Queen fan through Highlander (AKOM was my first Queen album) and I still get warm fuzzies whenever I hear the opening "Here we are..." :-) The "Born to be kings..." verse always sounds out of place to me too because I'm so used to the version from the opening credits of the TV show. I love this mix because it has my favorite parts of the song, and the guitar playing the melody of the verse is just great. I feel like breaking out my Highlander DVDs now. haha |

I know what you mean Adam - I like that that this version is trying to be as madcap at The Hero on Flash, but they obviously changed tack during the process. This is great and a shame it wasn't on the AKOM deluxe. |

Yes, thank you to the original sharer! Let's not turn this into a friggin' Fanthology/Fuller discussion. There's another thread for that. I'm getting tired of sifting through threads to read what the topic is actually about. A new version of a great Queen song and GT confirms it's authentic! I'll return back to his original question...how did this get out?! Thanks for sharing! |

Firstly thanks for the share, love this version of a personal fave. Secondly I apologise to JSS, as I am one of the 1000 QZ's who do come onto the site very regularly and don't contribute, even though Queen have been my fave band since 76/77 and was lucky enough to see them many times. I enjoy all the discussions and views and will try and get involved more, even though my knowledge is far inferior to the uber superfans that are here. |
