Here 'tis! The trackslisting and cover artwork for "ICON"! The new greatest hits compilation! And boy is it good with the cover and the tracklist! I am psyched for real! Maybe a two c.d. set could be done next as that has happened for some recording artists. For them it was (at least usually from what I remember off of my head at this moment) called "ICON 2" exemplifying that it was a two disc package. Just to clarify this is a one disc set. 'tis: link Thanks to Inu-linger for being the first to find, notice, and announce on the message boards to the fans all around the planet Earth (and...um, where ever else) that this compilation was not only going to be released but that it was to be called "ICON" and posted the link to the Amazon.com website to show that it was true and coming soon! I'm really excited about this! It looks as though they are focusing on the harder rocking songs...interesting. SO let's take a look at the tracklisting first...eleven songs. Second they have five songs from "Greatest Hits I" and three songs from "Greatest Hits II". Then they have three songs people I think would agree fits well on a hits compilation. Two of which have been on another greatest hits compilation in North Amercia on Hollywood Records called "Classic Queen". Those two are "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Tie Your Mother Down". The other interesting track that I think most people would agree could fit nicely on this type of compilation is "I'm In Love With My Car". Perfect list in my book in terms of what this compilation is trying to accomplish as a generic budget compilation. And so far looks quite nice for being just that. I am not sure I have ever seen the picture before...has anyone else? It looks new to me in the sense of being an unreleased picture that is. |

So sorry to dull the enthusiasm here but of what interest is it to those of us who have the albums anyway? I'll go water the pot plants now whilst listening to More of that Jazz or Drowzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Not in any way a bad song either) |

Well it is exciting that other people will have a chance to purchase a new compilation and be exposed or introduced to Queen when they might not have. Then there are the fans that enjoy the concept of it both artistically (whether it is the selection of songs, what versions get used, and their running order), and commercially. I think it looks like a really appealing product. The time periods it covers along with the choices of songs are quite interesting...I think they did a great job in selections and running order. |

The cover is the only thing about this thing that doesn't completely suck. Greatest Hits Light + Stone Cold Crazy + I'm In Love With My Car. Sad. Very, very sad. |

Just waiting for the next "con": "Queen- The Ballads" compilation at Christmas with a new song from the archive (HATE that kind of selling ploy - they deserve to have most people download it for free of the net) D |

Queen are the latest artist to be added to this 'Hits' series. Many other bands and singers have been included like: Whitesnake, Culture Club, Heart, Billy Squier, Donna summer, Mike Oldfield, Grand Funk Railroad and many more. |

This is really a non-issue. Sure the track listing could have been better to a degree but in all reality this is not a "band" release per se. This is just an entry into a specific format? Did anyone really think this would be something other than a GH type release? Or have anything new? This is a bargain bin greatest hits album confined to a pre-established "ICON" format. God people will bitch about anything. |
dudeofqueen 10.05.2013 08:24 |
Why discuss it? You know stuff like this happens........don't gt the pulse racing about it. The band are so inconsequential in the current marketplace its now gone beyond the ridiculous. |

Great cover and Good tracklist, to be honest. I wouldn't be embarrased if a friend told me this was their first Queen CD, unlike certain rip-offs like Stone Cold Classics and the A-Z of Queen. I think this cover works better than the one for Absolute Greatest. I like the combination of a very cool 70's photo and the GHII Queen logo. Now that I think about is, Queen's releases have suffered from uninspired and some TERRIBLE font/text letters (Return of the Champions, Absolute Greatest come to mind). Stick to what works. I like this one. |

I'm fascinated about Hollywood Records releasing this...they are not a Universal company, right? Hmmm...interesting. ...and yes I did not realise that Freddie was wearing a Superman shirt...that is really cool, huh? Just in time for the new movie, huh?! Lol! Kewl beans! So does does this mean Freddie once believed in Superman?! Ha, ha! |

The next completely useless release !!! QPL really know to please the fans. :-(((((((((((( Who the hell is going to buy this (except a few collectors from here) ? Regarding official releases: Being a Queen Fan gives you hard times, year after year. The same (good) songs over and over again. I'm speechless ... Bernie |
Thistle 10.05.2013 14:45 |
I'm not saying DONT release this, or being all negative, but WHY??? Surely the plethora of best of compilations, coupled with the deep cut efforts, already demonstrates what queen has to offer? It's easy to churn out these packages, but will anything new be offered? Or is Queen's legacy going to fade out as a hits band? |
waunakonor 10.05.2013 16:38 |
People seem to be referencing some sort of format or concept to these ICON compilations. What is that, exactly, because I don't really seem to see any significant pattern. |
GratefulFan 10.05.2013 17:25 |
I don't see this as a band thing really. Probably more of a typical business/marketing decision by Universal. It's not the kind of release that frustrates me much because it likely demands virtually no time or thought, and thus it's not like it's drawing energy or resources from something we'd think of as worthwhile. If somebody picks it out of a bargain bin at Wal-Mart of whatever, good for them. It's got a nice cover. |
AlexRocks 10.05.2013 22:15 |
I guess Waunakonor it's that the "ICON" compilations focus on almost as few of hits as possible and has very limited liner notes and artwork...THOUGH the cover photgraphs are usually top notch...and they are compilations of the Earth's best selling recording artists. :) Lol. It does have a nice cover and it is interesting seeing the format of "Queen" from the later years being used with a photo from the early years. Lol. |

Only eleven tracks? WTF. What a waste of money and disc space. At least they have to put 18 tracks. it would be more apelative. Boring and very short tracklist. |
AlexRocks 11.05.2013 09:06 |
Most people are not looking for rare tracks! Just the opposite! They are looking for what's popular! And that's o.k.! I would probably not be as thrilled about this release if they really did happen much more than they already do. Again I think it is fine and cool with the knowledge that all things especially generic budget compilations at some can and probably will go out of print anyway and better releases or re-releases of other compilations could be done. So, it's all good. |

i don't know why the greedy money-grubbing c*nts don't just release the same old "greatest hits " package every five years - all they need to do is get some high-school student with photoshop to "redesign" the cover and - voila!!! a completely different version of the same old shit hold on, that's what they're doing - and have for the last twenty years....my bad |

Yeah, because if other bands have done it then Queen must too. Lots of other bands have released archive sets too - any chance of Queen following that particular trend as well??? |

Interesting how Stone Cold Crazy keeps making its way onto these compilations despite never being released as a single or even a B-side. I suppose Metallica has a lot to do with that. |
AlexRocks 11.05.2013 22:54 |
Hmm...true...it is probably something to do with that. Metallica apparently are one of the best selling groups on Earth. I first heard it on "Classic Queen". Mindblowing experience...and then having "One Year Of Love" following it...kind of a same idea as the original studio l.p. it was from of course being "Sheer Heart Attack" with "Dear Friends" following it with its drastically dramatic change of types of songs from one to the other. |
