Queen - DVD audio releases

Does anyone know if the PCM lossless stereo on ANATO and The Game Audio DVDs can be ripped to FLAC or apple lossless 96/24? If so I would like to know how it can be achieved. Thanks in advance. |
| brENsKi 28.04.2013 09:02 |
yes there are quite a few here's a completely free one link |

Thanks, but I don't think that will rip the lossless stereo LPCM from a DVD Audio Disc. I want to preserve true 24 bit / 96Khz |

hi, take a look at this one; not bad bad only 48000 max link |
| . 28.04.2013 11:52 |
Thanks again but I really want to preserve 96000. |

Look up "DVD Audio Explorer". I went through all this and preserved all the 96k audio and trust me, 1st pressing non-remastered cds are better. It disappointed me, but it is true. If it is mastered loud like the DVD audios are, 96 K doesn't matter. It hurts the ears. Try it. But look for the non-remater first pressings and compare. |

Thanks for the advice, I do understand the 24/96 stereo LPCM is a bit loud. |

Apparently, DVD-A discs use a completely different type of encoding that makes ripping them without degrading the quality very, very difficult if not impossible. link I really don't have any experience with this, but maybe the above link helps. |

Very useful link TQ, thanks. *Update* Apparently DVD Audio extractor does the job. |
| Marknow 30.04.2013 09:21 |
You can do a uncompressed rip to pcm .wav 96/24 with Sony Vegas v12. |
| . 30.04.2013 10:02 |
Thanks Mark. My PC is still running 32 bit XP though! DVD Audio extractor does the job though. |
| Marknow 30.04.2013 10:13 |
32 bit pc will run vegas no prob. the audio is extracted from two .vob files so u get 2 .wavs as shown in the vlc screen cap above. You can join the two files into one. |

Ok, I got the 24/96 stereo LPCM ripped now thanks, and it is indeed way too loud! |
| brENsKi 30.04.2013 17:09 |
i got my copy of ANATO dvd-a when i was in america in 2005 - and it sounds perfect the separation is very nice on a good dvd-a capable player with a decent 5.1 amp not overstating it, but if i ever had Queen II in that quality, i'd be delirious |
| . 01.05.2013 02:43 |
But why is the 24/96 stereo LPCM so loud? Have you ripped the stereo LPCM from the ANATO DVD Audio Disc Mark? If so, was there any loudness issue? |
| Marknow 01.05.2013 06:07 |
I only have The Game. :-( |

Marknow wrote: I only have The Game. :-(Did you rip the stereo LPCM audio from it. It's way louder than the 2011 CD remasters, right? Play The Game (The Orb) 24/48 stereo LPCM (0dB peaks shown in red) link Play The Game (DVD Audio Disc) 24/96 stereo LPCM (0dB peaks shown in red) link |

I ripped the 5.1 to wav, but preserved the six channels. What program have you used in the above screen caps? Quite a noticeable difference there. |
| . 01.05.2013 09:32 |
Audacity. |
| Marknow 01.05.2013 09:53 |
I did a straight 5.1 wav rip with Vegas, very handy. Here is a look at PTG from The Game. |
| . 01.05.2013 10:01 |
Is it peaking at 0.dB? |
| Marknow 01.05.2013 10:34 |
Not to sure tbh, I did the rip without normalising the audio level, maybe that's it? The Left and Right are off the scale in some places as you can see. Here is another screen of PTG in Adobe Audition. 24/96 |
| . 01.05.2013 11:21 |
Thanks Mark, do you have a graph of your 24/96 stereo LPCM rip though? |
| Marknow 01.05.2013 14:45 |
Here you are PTG 24/96 wav. |
| . 01.05.2013 15:19 |
Looks about the same as my rip, but mine peaks at 0.dB. That graph seems to indicate you normalised at -1.00dB. |
| OwenSmith 09.05.2013 12:53 |
The DVD-A stereo are very different mixes from the multi channels, the stereos are the original album mix. Generally the 96/24 stereo suffers loudness wars, whereas the 5.1 MLP tracks don't. The 5.1 rips from the Queen DVD-As I've seen look a lot better than the ones given here, something doesn't add up. |
| . 10.05.2013 08:27 |
I agree Owen. The 24/96 stereo LPCM is WAY too loud! The 24/96 5.1 MLP levels look ok in comparison. Play The Game (DVD Audio Disc) 24/96 5.1 MLP (0dB peaks shown in red) link |
| . 13.10.2016 04:30 |
So in conclusion, the levels on the DVD Audio Disc 24/96 stereo LPCM peak at 0dB much more often than the 5.1 MLP. This ultimately results in a much louder experience overall. I used DVD Audio Extractor to rip, and the result is shown below. As it rips the audio direct from the Vob files I can't see how the levels would be anything but an exact replication of what's on the disc. Bohemian Rhapsody (DVD Audio Disc) 24/96 stereo LPCM (0dB peaks shown in red) link |
| . 13.10.2016 04:30 |
The 24/96 stereo LPCM levels on the Blu-Ray Pure Audi Disc seem a lot more acceptable (although the 5.1 levels are still quite high!) Bohemian Rhapsody - ANATO 24/96 (Blu-Ray Pure Audio Disc) stereo LPCM (0dB peaks shown in red) Sadly it's from the 2011 masters though. link |

Pink Floyd would be proud of it. |
