I do not know if this was discussed before, but the other day watching the "a magic year" documentary, i started to wonder,
Was the footage captured for radio gaga and the world we created on film or just regular tape. Because to me, it does not look like ordinary tape like the one used for the wembley show or the bits of manheim or slane castle.
Also during the minutes 11:01/11:12 there is some footage of the stage being built, i am quite sure that is knebworth, and it's footage that i do not recall seeing never before, but that seems to be regular tape and not film.
What do you think???
The stage building, and the bits of World We Created?, Hammmer and Ga Ga was recorded by DoRo, in film, probably 16 mm, much better than Wembley or WATC in Mannheim, but they only had ONE camera (maybe two). The people who recorded for the gigant screen was a different team and used videotape, but according to Brian May, and the last documentary featured in Hungarian Rhapsody, all of it wasn't recorded, the cameras were only for the screen, nothing more.
How much were recorded with the DoRo camera is subject of debate.
11:01 - 11:12 istn't it actually Manheim ?
Yes, the footage was shot by DoRo. It was shot on film. They usually used 35mm film, not sure what they used for the 1986 tour but the footage has more details than you'd expect from 16mm. They used at least 3 cameras during the concert, no idea about the other footage.
They filmed AT LEAST :
- traffic jams (aerial footage)
- building the stage
- the audience arriving to the park and cemetery(?)
- Status Quo performance (at least Rockin' All Over The World)
- random shots of the audience before the concert
- the whole trip of the band in the helicopter
- Freddie backstage
- the band going to the stage and the audience reaction
- Is This The World We Created
- Tutti Frutti
- Hammer To Fall
- Radio Ga Ga
- We Are The Champions
- God Save The Queen
Thx for the clarification. The fps and kind of filmation made me thought it was not oridnary tape but film.
It would be great if they made a boxet of the magic tour that includes all the audio of the concerts they have like, slane, manheim, newcastle, manchester and knebworth and also all the unreleased footage.
Like knebworth, leiden(tv source), manheim(tv source),slane castle(tv source), newcastle,paris(tv source) and manchester.
That would be a Great release. But for now we have settle for the greatest latest release. Which is live at the bowl.
How many more times are they gonna re-release old material, and the saddest thing is that this re-release doesnt contain anything new. At least the last re-re-release of wembley had the complete first night.
Another wasted chance by QPL
