Thin Lizzy / Queen Boston, MA, USA Boston Garden February 9, 1977 I thought I'd combine both bands into one share. The Queen show has been here before a couple times, but I don't think the Thin Lizzy tracks have been. Both bands were generously put up by the taper "Hezekiahx2" on Dime a few years back. Despite Mercury not being in great voice, this is one of the best Queen audience tapes of them all. Excellent quality and great atmosphere captured from the front row. Highly recommended listening for anyone who hasn't heard this one yet. I've included a new fix of Liar. The taper's battery ran out during the song, which led to speed fluctuations that needed to be corrected. This is an improvement on the version I put up a few years back, so it might be worth the download for those who have heard the show before. Thin Lizzy: 1. Bad Reputation (drum solo only) 2. Baby Drives Me Crazy 3. Me And The Boys Queen: 1. Overture 2. Tie Your Mother Down 3. Ogre Battle 4. White Queen 5. Somebody to Love 6. Killer Queen 7. The Millionaire Waltz 8. You're My Best Friend 9. Bring Back That Leroy Brown 10. Sweet Lady 11. Brighton Rock 12. '39 13. You Take My Breath Away 14. White Man 15. The Prophet's Song 16. Bohemian Rhapsody 17. Stone Cold Crazy 18. Keep Yourself Alive 19. Liar [cut] Extensive notes from Hezekiahx2 and Nordico (who did an excellent remaster) are in the info file and the following post. link link Enjoy, and keep it lossless ! |

Taper's original Thin Lizzy notes: 20:39 min audience TAPER: Hezekiahx2 8th row right center Lineage: Recorded on a Maxell UD90 w/ Sony TC-152 Portable Cassette Deck / Tape Position 'Normal' / Dolby 'B' in using Sony ECM-99A (hand held one point stereo mic) Playback Tascam 122 MKII / Tape Position 'Normal' / Dolby 'B' in --> Tascam CD-RW2000 --> EAC --> CDWAV --> FLAC I should have had the entire show. However, when I arrived at the 'Garden', Queen had pushed the front of the stage out so much that the first 8 rows were told to sit in special seating approx mid way back on the floor. I had tickets for the 8th row. After a great deal of arguing among a lot of people (who had closer seats) I was allowed to sit in my original seats. But I was almost under the stage and I was told I could not stand up!!! It was a mess. To add to things, the girls we were with went to the bathroom only to come back messed up as they had taken some Quaaludes!!! So now I am babysitting a tape deck and a date (who is drooling), by the time I got the deck rolling, Thin Lizzy were into their end of the set and the encores.." -------------------------------------------------- Taper's original Queen notes: Audience Recording: Extended stage 1st row far right Recorded on a (2) Maxell UD90's w/ Sony TC-152 Portable Cassette Deck / Tape Position 'Normal' / Dolby 'B' in using Sony ECM-99A (hand held one point stereo mic) Playback: Sony TC-152 Cassette Deck / Tape Position 'Normal' / Dolby 'B' out --> / Revox B-77 (Maxell UD35-90 7 1/2 ips) / Tascam CD-RW2000 --> EAC --> Goldwav --> FLAC 8 Heads were aligned for optimum playback. As with all Digital releases, this is for free trade or blank media trade only. Not to be bought or sold. Keep the spirit of trading alive and well. Nothing has been edited out or EQ'd!! Hezekiahx2 Don’t read this if you hate stories. I was asked to put this up by many folks. Sound quality is much better than I remembered. This was one of those nights where I was mixing a little smoke, girls, and taping. The girl I’m with decides to take a couple of qualudes while she and her friends were in the ladies room….so she is useless. I get into the Boston Garden and the row I have tickets for (14th row I think) is now the 1st row. I mean right at the edge of the stage. I cannot even see the stage, it’s too high. Queen has extended the stage out into the floor area. My seat is right in the corner where the original stage ends and the extension begins. There is a huge commotion in this area because people are pissed about where they are sitting. You are being escorted to about midway on the floor of the Garden, where folding chairs have been set up for everyone. I decide to stay with my 1st row seats. Thin Lizzy has begun their set. I try and set up to record but between the usher and the people trying to figure out what has happened, things are very difficult. So I capture the end of the Thin Lizzy set sitting in my seat. The Queen intro starts and I begin recording. I try and stand on my seat but the usher cautions me to sit down (you will hear him say this several times on the tape). So I record the first 2 songs from my seat again. About midway thru ‘White Queen’ everyone stands and there isn’t much the usher can do except to say “sit down”. I stand up holding my microphone (which I had painted black a few weeks earlier). The trouble is I can just barely see the top of the stage and the cable to my microphone is pulled taut. This causes one of the channels to cut out intermittently. After ‘Bring Back That Leroy Brown’ I sat down and changed cassettes, picked up the TC152 recording deck and put it on my seat. Then I stood on the arm rests in order to get higher than stage level and started recording. At this height, the sound off the stage was fabulous. I stayed there for most of the show, but my mic cord was still taut, so I still ended up getting an intermittent channel/noise issue. To make matters worse, some guy jumped into my seat when I tried to move the deck. As I yelled at him to get back, I ended up accidentally turning the VU Meter lights on, which caused the batteries to drain quickly. So though I was holding my mic after ‘Liar’, I just wasn’t taping anything. One other thing: something odd happened. I was standing on the arm rests; this would have been midway through the show. I am holding my mic as high as I can. Freddie comes over to my corner of the stage while singing. It was strange. I’m holding a mic and Freddie is only 20-30ft from me and he is holding a mic. I know he looked over in my direction which caused me to pull the mic towards my chest. I can’t explain it. It was an odd feeling. So many things went wrong at this show, and my deck got crushed and cracked that I almost went back to taping FM broadcasts and thought about giving up trying to do anything at the Boston Garden. I used Goldwave to fix the channel dropouts. However I left the intermittent mic cable blips in as I am not as proficient as others and didn’t want to butcher this recording (which was butchered already). This recording is coming from my reels as I no longer have the original cassettes in my possession. -------------------------------------------------- Nordico's remaster notes: Fixed dropouts with Nero Wave Editor in "Intro", "Somebody To Love", "Killer Queen", "Brighton Rock" and intro "'39" by copying right channel into the left one and added a stereo effect in some cases. Add Stereo effect (broadening) with Nero Wave Editor (since the stereo effect was missing) in" - Somebody To Love (0'39 - 0'45, around 1 min) - Brighton Rock (3'46 - 3'57, 7'13 - 7'20, 10'29 - 10'52, 11'06 - 11'14) - '39 (beginning - 3'08) Edit/Cut between the tracks with Cassette Flips, with Nero Wave Editor. Speeded up a tiny little bit tracks 1 - 15 with Goldwave. Speeded down "Liar" with Goldwave almost a semitone, but it's a mess since in the end everything is jingling and jangling due to battery failure Brought down the bass around 200 Hz with Nero Burning Add a tiny little bit some High frequency’s with Nero Burning Finally split "White Man" & "The Prophet's Song" in two separate tracks with Nero Burning Lineage: Flac (original Share) > Edit/Fixing Nero Wave Editor > Speed correction Goldwave > Nero Burning (with eq) > Silvers > Audiograbber To WAV > Flac frontend Level 8 To Flac -------------------------------------------------- The Real Wizard's remaster notes: Went through Liar with a fine tooth comb to ensure all the speed fluctuations are corrected. |

Thank you for posting this. I've missed the Thin Lizzy part the first time on dime (or better: I didn't download it). Also thanks for taking the trouble to take liar to a 'new dimension', it takes a lot of time to do those things, it's appreciated. |

Thank you for creating this version! And thank you for the torrent! EDIT: Freddie isn't on the top of his game but.... wow they sounded good. It's refreshing to here this. When i think of it the 76' Boston recording is probably my favorite queen recording of any kind. |
