Totally unexpected moment last night in central London. I crossed paths with Mary Austin of all people. I asked for her autograph, and the guy she was with (not sure if they were a couple) - he told me, "I don't think that'd be possible, no.". Then she gave me a warm smile, and that was that. Just thought I'd share that with you peeps. |
mooghead 06.03.2013 16:21 |
Why the FUCK would you want her autograph? |
Day dop 06.03.2013 16:23 |
Fuck knows. |
Missreclusive 06.03.2013 21:37 |
lol well? Maybe there are some Mary Austin fans out here somewhere. She was probably flattered that you knew who she was and asked for the autograph. |

she's not a celebrity. why SHOULD SHE? leave her alone that's what i "love" about this site - the perverse obsession with their friends/families/children/pets/parents...you fucking name it....if someone is NOT a celebrity in their own right, then that person has the same rights to privacy as we do. ps - when i said "love" i meant hate - because there's some mentally twisted, fucked-up fans about. |

there was an odd rumour that crept up recently, she sold Garden Lodge to some oriental man.... fact or fiction... guess we'll never know |

Sure, if someone told me they'd been stalking her outside her home or pestering her in an untoward way, I'd tell 'em to leave her alone - but I wouldn't call politely asking for her autograph a "perverse obsession". Also - I thought about that afterwards - that she seems private and probably doesn't like being recognised by the public, maybe it was a tad thoughtless to ask. Fair enough. But it also came to mind that no one twisted her arm to be on any documentaries after Freddie's death did they? What I mean by that is she didn't completely steer away from showing her face on any public medium. And IF you're lumping me in with the "mentally twisted, fucked-up fans" simply because I asked that then you can go fuck yourself. Isn't this forum a joy at times? |
mooghead 07.03.2013 16:05 |
So lets say you got her autograph. Then what? |
brENsKi 07.03.2013 16:06 |
since you ask. my reply was mainly aimed at Guild93 - who seems to imply an autograph is the least she should do. preposterous crap! as for your comments: at worst you were clumsy. but and this is a big but - fact you shared that you asked her in the first place implies you felt it alright to ask a non-celeb for an autograph secondly, did it ever occur to you that out of all the so-called friends who have appeared in freddie docus - she is one of a minute number who have actually maintained a level of reverence and respect for a true friend that she cared deeply about. |

You know, I'm not justifying it, because In all honestly, I didn't fully expect her to, and there's no reason whatsoever that anyone should expect her to - so yeah, you're right about that - it probably was clumsy of me at worst. Regarding the last thing you said - of course I know that |

mooghead wrote: So lets say you got her autograph. Then what? You know of Ian Holme? Guy who played the Hobbit and was in the original alien movie? I was in a situation once talking with him - also unexpected as I sometimes bump into well known people where I work. He gave me his autograph (I didn't ask for it either). When I got home, I tucked it in my Lord of the Rings dvd cover. I'd have done the same thing with hers, put in one of my Queen C.D's. Although, she's the first person I ever asked (and wouldn't ask anyone again) - but only because I'm a long time fan of Fred's and Queen and she's associated with him. And that's all. |

Hey DayDop, you should have gone up to Mary and said in Freddie's famous words, 'Dislocate your spine if you don't sign..'. I am just kidding; please don't be sending hate replies my way! |

mooghead wrote: Why the FUCK would you want her autograph?Exactly what I was thinking. Jeez - 'celebrity' by association is just ridiculous in this day and age isn't it. You can have my autograph if you like - in my last job two of my colleagues were: 1) the brother of Topper Headon (The Clash's drummer), and 2) George Michael's uncle (true fact, not made up), so that probably makes my autograph twice as valuable as Mary's as she was only associated with one famous person?? |

I am a Queen Fan. Freddie was out of Queen. I will give you my autograph if you want. A 'Mary' autograph will bring you just as close to Freddie as I will. Seriously. If you want my autograph I will send it to you. Send me your address. £200. |

That's neat that you got to see her. I'm glad she has someone there to protect her, whether it was security or just a friend. Yes, she is a celebrity (a famous person), but she is not an entertainer. So asking for her autograph is "cute" but it would be like asking Freddie's mother for an autograph. Whoever was with her was certainly being cautious on her behalf, which is a good thing, right? |
Missreclusive 08.03.2013 21:46 |
Give him a break, I might have asked for her autograph and I would also ask for Freddies moms too. Freddie loved Mary and she was there for his entire career...why not ask? |

I agree with you DD. Doesn't matter, there are those of us who will read and appreciate your post. I was thinking and any FM fan can certainly appreciate an encounter with the person he valued most in his life! He told her everything, entrusted his ashes to her, left her his home. No speculation as he says he was closest to her in interviews. You negative sorts need to sit down and shut up. And, since I tend to be a thread killer... this will probably be the last post here! LOL Hey, DD, did you see the thread where I was chatting with the person who is best friends with Freddies nephew? I even thought that interesting, what that person had to say about his family! I found it fascinating. It's the thread about Kash's kids and what their names are. Now, some of you may say that the person wasn't who she/he claimed to be but from what was written I tend to believe it's true. So, call me an idiot...I'm old enough to simply not care. |
brENsKi 09.03.2013 10:52 |
you're ^^^ confusing natural curiosity with morbid intangilbe celebrity attachment. Mary is NOT and never has been a celebrity. she has never sought any kind of celebrity status and is a very private person. as a non-celeb she has complete and utter entitlement to privacy within her family life. therefore asking her for an autograph is - by default - attaching celebrity status to her - the one thing she is not. i accept that the OP was nothing more than clumsy, but this thread shows why so many "fans" are dangerously obsessive - their kids, families, partners, parents....it's weird in the extreme. and horrbile imagine someone invading your privacy - against your wishes - how would YOU feel? |
Missreclusive 09.03.2013 13:36 |
LOL...I seriously doubt that asking her for her autograph out in public..on the street..is invasion of her privacy! OP was told no and moved on. She smiled for petes sake. I don't believe the OP is morbidly attached nor obsessive and neither am I. No one called her a celebrity...she was very close and connected. AND by the way...I DO have people invade my privacy unannouced due to the way I live! I think it's sort of cool that people are curious and wish to see and understand. I've taken a very different path in life than the norm and people are curious...I don't get all upset. Brenski...you are the one taking this way out on a limb. I'm over it. Move on. Just think before you call people names, it's RUDE at best. |
brENsKi 09.03.2013 15:48 |
where did i call anyone names? i said it was strange - it is. iof you choose to live a different lifestyle then good for you but from what we understand, mary and anyone else in her position are not celebs and therefore are entitled to privacy as for the "smile" she gave - you should check the news from the UK this week - where a teenage girl commented on twitter about a "strange man" following her about everywhere, next thing she boards a bus to school and is stabbed to death by the same guy. with these kind of crazies about everywhere these days, it's easy to understand why Mary may have "politely smiled". the OP is not a crazy - but there's plenty out there that are |
MadTheDude 09.03.2013 18:36 |
Well it is pretty neat to see someone like Mary In the flesh instead of a tv screen on one of those FM documentarys, and heck, if you did get her autograph you might have gotten some cash from some weird fan off ebay |

How many times you have done or asked "stupid questions" in your life feeling embarrased afterwaards? Ive stopped bus drivers when I was teenager just to ask "what time is it?". Mary has know since she become integral part of Freddies life, publicity would be part of her life till her last breath, altough it narrowed significantly after Freddie passed away, she's still known and recognised by millions of queen's die hard fans. So its no wonder every now and then some of those fans seizes the moment when they bump up to her out in the open.. and asks things like autographs? - You should get a life yourself and stop being such an asshole.. and apologiser this poor member of our communiyty. |
Donna13 11.03.2013 16:49 |
Maybe because people are so crazy over Freddie this and Freddie that, Mary has to be extra careful while in public. But it is not true that she knew she would be in the public eye, because when she met and became close to Freddie, he was not successful or famous. |
LocustIvy 12.03.2013 08:50 |
Please don't think I'm being disrespectful of anyone's opinion about Mary, but Freddie chose to have here around to the end and afterwards, so why would anyone disrespect his wishes? He loved her, she loved him. They were friends their entire adult lives. That was Freddie's choice. So be it. |
