Can you guys give me a general history and/or some facts on the multi tracking of Queen?
I have to do a speech in my music class on technology in music and decided on multi tracking in the music of Queen.
Of course we see the use of multi tracking early on in their career. I think the most early, complex recordings being the Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke or March of the Black Queen.
I do know that, when recording March of the Black Queen, that they wore off almost all of the acetate... But most fans seem to know that.
I would like concise information on it because it truly is a topic associated with the band in itself!
Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Yep,
the documentary "Inside the Rhapsody" in the GVH1 DVD is, to me, one of the most fascinating pieces out there regarding their studio work.
In there, you'll see Brian in the studio analyzing and providing insights on the original Bo Rhap multitracks: vocals, harmonies, rythm section, guitars, etc etc.
Highly recommendable !
Wow! Cheers guys! Lucky I had the Classic Albums episode on my iPad! Even 20 mins of that helped significantly! I'll most definitely watch the GVH1 video! Thank you for providing the link! You guys are fabulous!
One thing to note is they jumped from 16 to 24 tracks in 1974. The first two albums were recorded on 16, and SHA through NOTW were done on 24.
Another thing of interest - according to the research material we have, several guitars were often bounced down to one track, but vocals were always on separate tracks and mixed down only for the final mix.
Example from Killer Queen - the classic solo is all on one track.
Also well worth noting - there are plenty of things on the multi-tracks that didn't make the final mixes.
Brighton Rock has a whole different guitar solo (not nearly as good as the one that made the record).
BoRhap has two completely different vocal takes for the verses
Get Down Make Love has an extra voice for the chorus an octave below.

Wow... choose a subject then turn to the internet to get you a grade. Top research there...
What's the problem with coming to a community of Queen fans to verify my information and get something accurate? I don't want to share inaccuracies with others, I'm merely getting my facts right. Nothing wrong with that.
Mooghead is a prat - ignore him. always has been. You're t the best place to seek information that might not necessarily be in published form. I'm sure your teachers will applaud your use of all forms of media and opinion in order to structure and generate yours.
