(before I start writing, I'm sure loads of people are going to 'chip in' with negative/derogatory/release the archive type comments, please can you refrain)
Dear Greg,
On the Highlander Blu Ray & special edition DVD, it makes reference to the original Highlander negative (productions stills et all) being destroyed in a fire.
I just wondered, if the versions of the songs (which appear in different form on the film) have survived safe & sound in the queen archive, or wether these were destroyed in said fire also?
Here's hoping they didn't
Hi there
I'm no techie or expert on these matters, but for what its worth, I have a copy of the promo soundtrack CD that was released. So I am thinking that maybe some masters would have been held by the band.
I'm fairly sure the mastertapes would be safe and sound (unless lost somehow otherwise a la NOTW multitracks for instance) in the QPL archives. The filmmakers would have probably only received production copies, not the masters themselves.

There is no promo soundtrack for Highlander. There are some bootlegs pretending to be the soundtrack, but there is no official recording. Would be great to have though, with the alternate Princes, Magic, Forever, New York New York... I had expected stuff like this to appear on the Magic-remaster in 2011 :(

Does anybody know if the "alternate Princes" is available on the internet? I own the original VHS and the original DVD of the film, for that matter.
Also, is the version featured in the film all that there is out there?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,

Really! That's interesting. Its a very nice CD and says something like For Promotion Only Not For Sale on it. In fact the guy I got it off said he worked somewhere (can't remember exactly) where they got heaps of promotional CDs from different artists. So I assumed it must be from an official source, even if it wasn't officially released as such. I remember seeing a few of them on Ebay at around that time. Its a very nice CD.
That seems the sensible option. I've got a big collection in three separate locations (two parts in friend's houses) and don't know which bit its in, but I'll see what I can do. Not sure when I can do it, that's all.
Well, you know, pirates/bootleggers got a hold of Factories many years ago so it's not rare to have pirate/unofficial material 'factory pressed' on silver CDs and even vinyl.
I don't think any of these are official.

Did it per chance have either of these two covers?

From memory its similar or the same to the second one. Does that one say "Not For Sale" anywhere on it? If it does, then I would have to agree its the same. The back of it below also definitely looks familiar!
