A Rolls-Royce car belonging to the late Freddie Mercury has been purchased by a wealthy drag queen who once represented the Ukraine at Eurovision.
Earlier this month (January 2013), Mercury's Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 74 went up for auction at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham. It was snapped up by a unidentified Russian businessman for £74,600 - more than six times its guide price.
he mysterious purchaser has now outed himself as Andrey Danilko, better known by his drag name Verka Serduchka. As Serduchka, the singer finished second at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with a track called 'Dancing Lasha Tumbai'. Scroll down and click 'play' to watch her classic Eurovision performance.
In a recent press conference, Serduchka revealed that she intends to donate the car to a Queen museum due to open later this year. She is quoted by music-news.com as saying: "I bought the car not to drive it, but to preserve it to fans of the Queen!"
The car came complete with two personal items belonging to Mercury, a bottle of perfume and a box of Kleenex Mansize tissues, both of which Serduchka intends to keep for herself. Mercury never actually drove the car because he had no licence, but he was regularly chauffeured around in it from 1979 until his death in 1991.
