Even though I have been a regular observer of these forums for a considerable amount of time I have not felt compelled to discuss a topic until now. My question is to GT or to Greg Brooks. I would would like to ask you the reasons for the delay/cancellation of the proposed anthology and more obscure live material? As a " hardcore" queen fan I feel that i am not being unreasonable to feel disappointed and in some ways exploited by the continued re-release of material that has been officially available for years. I totally respect the fact that you are employees of queen productions and are not able to reveal sensitive details. I also feel that it is ridiculous that you are held responsible for releases by members of the forum and the abuse you have received is abhorrent. Anyway any information in regards to these proposed projects and the direction of future releases would be greatly appreciated. |

You're obviously not likely to get any reasonable info. Many people have done it before, but only few have managed to get some relatively distinct answers (I doubt it, though...). All I can tell you for sure (hopefully really for sure!) is that we shall get a compilation of the two Rainbow shows some time this year, which might as well include a CD containing the March 31st show or even those November shows + some possible bonuses. |

Thanks lostman, I was just hoping that if we made a reasonable request without any ranting or abuse we might get a few answers. I fully appreciate queen are a commercial enterprise as well as a band , but it would be nice to feel that it appreciates its most loyal and dedicated fans by tailoring some releases to please them! For example Metalica shows appreciation to their hardcore fanbase with fan club only releases of rare material and being very open with information. I think the loyality of the hardcore queen fanbase is exploited by the same material being re-re-re released over again. It would be fantastic if Greg or GT would speak a little more openly about things and inresponse forum members would be a bit more understanding. |

I think he's about as frustrated - to a certain degree - that this hasn't come to fruition yet... a certain degree - well cuz he's heard everything! but generally, in his shoes, i'm sure he'd like to see his hard work have purpose... him being an archiver and all - i'm sure he'd do what he can to get some of that stuff out there... it's not his call and a lot of people think he's nothing but a hoarder... but clearly, these people - and there are A LOT - are jealous and believe that he takes great satisfaction that, we the fans, do not get what we want. Unfortunately, this doesn't come across so easily - as clearly - he's not a people-person. He generally comes off as a little arrogant and dry - but that's just his personality and not his overall sentiment. People need to back off and just let him do his job. It's annoying to see these posts pop up - to me... lol... and I can only imagine, it must be THAT much more annoying to him. He's being paid to hoard and archive. That's it. Nothing more. He's not a publicist, he's not a Queen diplomat... he pops up on this board every once in a while because - he's a fan... not because he has to... |

What I would love to know is... Why was the original anthology project mentioned in the Freddie Mercury boxset delayed/cancelled? is this project an ongoing concern and likely to be released in the forseable future? What is Brian and Rogers attitude to the project? are they supportive? have they sanctioned its development? Are the proposed live DVD boxsets still under development? Are queen productions aware of the feelings of many queen enthusiasts in regards too releases and pursuing a course to make archive material available? Any information would be greatly appreciated from GT or Greg!! Im sure it would make many fans happy too know whats going on . |

Just a heads up, rocknrollover's a lunatic. Although his information here is, surprisingly enough, pretty much correct. I wouldn't count on getting an Anthology release any time soon. We really don't hear much about anything of the sort, which is probably a fair indication that they don't have much interest in pursuing something like that, at least at this point in time. We'll just have to make do with our audience recordings for the time being, which is good enough for me :) |
Jimmy Dean 26.01.2013 07:51 |
Yea - they probably don't have the interest... Brian's not releasing anything unless he's approved the mix to be released... could you imagine how time consuming that is? For a box-worth of material?... Which would be a treat to go back and listen to... if he had the interest. I think, until either of the two have NO MORE interest in pursuing new projects with each other... a year or two will lapse, and either of the two will get down to listening to the material that is "release-worthy"... This could take years... |

i disagree that he is frustrated at the lack of purpose to his "hard work". that is a rubbish statement. what is an archivist's job? simple - they're hired as librarians - to identify, label and catalogue everything that's in the "QPL cupboards". The archivist's job is to sort out the chaos and bring order. having made progress on this task - upto the point of final completion he should be feeling immense amounts of job satisfaction - esp if the rumoured "state of the cupboards" before his arrival - is anything like the truth. job done? then that's it. game over. how can achieving exactly what you're employed to do cause frustration? anthologies are NOT his concern, so that - or ANY other release is NOT the purpose of his work - therefore, a lack of such releases SHOULD NOT cause him any frustration |
