What a contrast, i know. They never worked together of course, they probably never met, and as far as i know there is no quote from one to the other. My post here has a different direction.
I was questioning who is healthier to identify with especially while in those sexually frustrated years of puberty( ...or even post-puberty).
In a way they are a total opposite to how you experience, think of, control and especially portray through art DESIRE.
They are both children and men of their times and the world was a compete different place from 1971 to 1981. However i see both as "valid" , artistically and otherwise on how they they dealt with the greatest power known to man ( desire of course).
My question lies on what do you think is actually the "closest to healthier " (if there is such a thing) / or lets say least damaging process .
The f.mercury way of embrace-guilt-pastiche-over sentiment-let go-control again OR the Morrissey way of questioning-denying-idealizing and eventually transform all the amount of libido to poetry and psycho-mental stubbornness?
I know nothing of MORRISSEY except that I hate his whiny annoying self reverential bullshit and that his stuff was intolerable without feeling and sounding like a hysterical joke *(compare with the same situation via MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND)
I had a girlfriend who played his music often and I felt SHAME driving around listening to it.
If he's the last ENGLISHMAN or whatever .... I'm certainly glad he is THE LAST (self-proposed)
I hate the fucker s music with a contaminated vengeance.
How ppl listen to his crap boggles me.
Along the same lines as some death/black metal. ... if he's a poet or some kind of "talent" I'd rather READ the shit than waste hours of my life in exhaustive boredom.
God. ... oh god... why did someone bring up that prick. ..
*THE SMITHS were alright .... making the comparison to MERCIFUL FATE/ KING DIAMOND. ... GOOD TO RIDICULOUS
I think its something for the "gay chic" to get a hold of. Hate the Fucker s "music" like the stomach flu
...i know where you coming from . it was almost the same to me. then i started questioning somethings. then i bought the psycho-biography Saint Morrissey. It raises some interning issues with a very insightful yet sarcastic way.
I like Morrissey, the Smiths are an intriguing band as Marr would wright upbeat jangly pop music and Morrissey's lyrics were the exact opposite.
As for the first post, I have absolutely no idea what he is on about.
Maybe STELIOS (his caps not mine) wishes to follow in their footsteps?
If I understand correctly the poster its analyzing the CONTENT of their respective love songs?
Whereas Freddie is often the victim/guilt
You take my breath away, love of my life dont leaveme Its a hard life but I did it all for love drinking away the pain of the last one (my melancholy blues) etc
Vs
What ib believe to be Morrissey's almost fatalistic style of whining. Where we're all subject to it. (Lyrics don't come to mind cause Ive since tried to block them out)
Which is healthier? Love panged idealist or colder ....bub bub ba bub?
(Once again at a los to bring up Morrissey lyrics)
I think in life the first one has more passion. The second one is the girlfriend you may have had who will bone the mail carrier because YOU were at work and she needed it.... if anyone's to blame it was your absence and not a flaw if character it just simply had to be done.
I think the latter would be psychotic.
Not sure I understand the topic correctly but I gave it a shot
You cannot compare Morrisey with FM.
Morrisey is a paralysed streak of piss who constantly whines instead of singing. He is a total embarrasment and to coin a phrase a misguided old mule, who rants these days because he is no longer relevant as an artist or a human being. Keep the red hand flying and God save the Queen.
I remember back in the 80's Morrissey made a comment that Queen were disgusting for fleecing their fans by releasing Greatest hits packages, he has since himself released one or two. In hindsight he was 25 years ahead in his thinking in comparison to what a lot of Queen fans are saying now. A strange guy, but a very principled one too, one of a handful of artists I would pay to see live, all round decent bloke.
Marknow - being Southern Irish republican I can see he appeals to your own personal political aspirations. That said his loudmouth voice of the minority is just held up for ridicule and is embarrasingly desperate at its most acute. I find him a wholly loathsome character who should leave our shores and renounce his citizenship if he cannot live in a law abiding and most of the time peaceful United Kingdom like the vast majority.

Dear dickhead. How dare you presume what my political aspirations are based on my geographical location, or that I like Morrissey for that reason. For the record, I am NOT Republican in my politics, and I think the IRA, Sinn Fein etc are a bunch of murdering fucking cowards.
That clear enough for you? Ya ignorant, narrow minded fuckwit.
Without the red blooded anger it brought up, like I said as well... if I had to indulge some bit of his wit... show me his lyrics cause his solo stuff is horribly boring. It makes me feel like a claustrophobic person in that I need to get away
Brian got it right when he said Freddie was a Singer of Songs and a Lover of Life. And I think Sparks got it right when they said Morrisey should lighten up a bit. Just check out what I mean here if you've got a sec....lol. > link
