I purchased a bunch of reel to reel tapes. And this one puzzles me a bit. The label states Queen 1973. But listening to it it sounds like a shortened copy of Budokan, Tokyo May 1st 1975. Quite a lot of songs missing and somewhere in the middle the voice of an American DJ talking.
One of the songs on this tape is Hangman. A good friend, who is also a Queenzone member, thought it sounded like the copy of the song on the bootleg 'Young Nobles of Rock'.
As I do not have a copy of the Young Nobles right here, I did listened to copies on Youtube. And some of them sound remarkable close.
Can someone with a copy of Young Nobles compare the tracks. I would like to find out if I'm tricked and the song on my tape is just a copy of the bootleg or if it is another copy based on the same master. link
I'm 100% sure.
I hope you didn't pay too much for the tape.
We can be easily fooled by reel-to-reel tapes, thinking they're some kind of one-of-a-kind source tape - but the reality is, anyone can make them. And all we have here is the Tarantura bootleg from 2007 dubbed to the tape. Your friend was bang on.
Been caught by dodgy Reel to Reel tapes myself, nasty business altogether. Avoid seller a_kind_of_magic1 from ebay at all cost.
It wasn't him by any chance was it?
It was another ebay seller (roligarciajr). His feedback score is 100%. En looking back at his history it seems like he does the same trick for Pink Floyd concert recordings too.
I bought a few tapes more from him. I will transfer them to a digital format, but they are probably sourced on a similar way.
