Christmas is for sharing dreams and wishes :-)
I’ve read some harsh comments about The Queen feature film project a.k.a Freddie biopic here. How about staying positive, let’s say for one week :-), and sharing your thoughts and opinions about your dream feature film based on or inspired by The Queen heritage?
For the biopic, a film that tells the story of Freddie's life, or at least part of it, with a lot of accuracy while also presenting the subject as the hilariously fun yet simultaneously shy and sensitive creature he was. I want SBC to be able to portray that effectively, and I still have faith that he can manage that. Also, along with accuracy, the film should have some emotional and dramatic potency, making the story satisfying for people who are very familiar with Freddie and also people who are not.
I saw the movie Lincoln recently, which starts toward the end of the American Civil War, after he's already been elected to a second term, and ends shortly after his death. Most of the movie centers around the passing of the 13th Amendment, which effectively ended slavery, drawing criticism that it should be called The 13th Amendment, not Lincoln. However, I think the title works because its primary target audience already knows plenty about the man's life, so a more in-depth narrative about a smaller portion of his life makes more sense. Anyway, getting back on track, I would not mind if the biopic were a lot like Lincoln, and since it's about a rock star it would probably end up feeling less dull.
Ah, I had a lot of fun with that little fantasy.
One that starts with a flashback of Freddie stepping out of restraints screaming NOOOOOOOOOO!
As he thunders his fists to the heavens.
Freddie resurrected due to his midichlorian content being extremely high.
he precedes the questioning with a statement "I have been allowed to come back to answer questions regarding the tale and fate of this world for all mankind's benefit. You know its not too late"
Here freddie is hurriedly pressured to answer questions about his life by a legion of fans, though all they ask are
"Was Knebworth filmed?"
Yes. I've seen it on youtube, some bloke brought his camera
"Was Knebworth PROFESSIONALLY filmed"
"I don't know"
Followed by newbies who ask
"Did you write Bohemian Rhapsody about AIDS?.. How did you know!???"
Until he disappears
Either that or just do a real film with real actors (not nepotism ranking- SBC sucks)
Make it interesting. Make it about their school days and forming the band.
Ibex, Smile, Sour Milk Sea, etc... So it can be an active story-telling + part reliving... I'm sure some of their bandmates are still around and remember it.
Or for sales purposes, focus on 74 at the verge of disbanding due to debt with an ambitious NATO album up to their dissolution in the mid eighties.
Truly I don't know how someone could compact that much story in a feature film.
Also... The part about Freddies death. Though its so incredibly vital, I don't think the band wishes to be complicit in anything of the sort, despite the campaigns of AIDS awareness and charity.
I still believe that out of respect for their partner/flatmate they don't wish to stigmatize him in the public eye, being that the statement made at the end of his life has debatable reason./motive
I guess I better make my shot on the target now. Oh, dear XD
Well, The Queen is a band; so my ideal movie is about the band and not a biopic. The Queen always do things huge; accordingly this thing should also be huge, like a saga of three or four consecutive movies nonetheless (the last film will surely be divided in two but they will not tell until it’s time) with lots of newspaper speculation in between and fans dividing in Team Freddie versus Team Brian (or, Team Trident versus Team Swan Song Records, it depends), something really epic with CGI dwarves and stuff.
However, Freddie Mercury is somebody who has the status of a legend, so his biopic is also likely to be made. I’m always a fan of any family friendly movie that shows an exemplary role model to a child :-) but this might be not possible due to some facts of Freddie’s life. If I have to dream something fact-based, then I’d quote the dude who apparently read the book that I’m not going to read XD:
“[Mark] Blake (smartly, perhaps) let’s all those around Mercury recall their own versions of the truth, even when they conflict with one another, as they often do. But it remains nearly impossible to fully grasp Mercury as an individual, even after the text is complete. His chosen namesake is appropriate—he was mercurial in nearly all aspects, showing one face to the press, one to the stage, one to his band, and one to his lovers. It’s difficult to know if he knew what he wanted from his life, and there are no easy answers here.” link
According this, I’d like to see a movie that tells the same story from the perspective of different people, which means it consists of several shorter films. Let’s say, all parties meet in a talkshow and tell their stories, what Freddie and his life was like. After the stories are told, which means pretty different pictures, eventually they start shouting, throwing things, and fighting each other; the host screams for camera operator to stop this and put on some adds. Well, no response ‘cause the operator just has Bohemian Rhapsody in his earphones, he sits with his eyes closed and doesn’t hear a thing. The End.
I mean, it’s kind of a comedy but it’s also kind of serious and very educational of course ;-) the only problem is that such talkshow never took place (what a shame!) so it’s not a fact and can’t be put in a bio movie. I guess it might be defined as “part biographic” then XD
You’re right, it’s really fun to sit down and fantasize like that!
