A brand new YouTube channel - created specially for Queen fans, by Queen fans… Coming soon. Queen’s archivist Greg Brooks and contributor/expert Gary Taylor are about to launch an exciting new channel on YouTube, and invite fellow fans and collectors to join them in making ‘Rare Share: Queen Collectibles’ the place to go to view and share Queen memorabilia from all around the world. The channel will focus exclusively upon Queen and Solo nostalgia - everything ever released - presented in concise video clips. This will be the band’s unique and fascinating history, but this time from the perspective of you the fans. There are thousands of wonderful items to get through - a vast array of treasures which they'd like you to be a part of. Anything at all rare and interesting in the name of Queen, has its place here - the more obscure and unusual, the better. Be it records, books, picture discs, boxed sets, posters, acetates, t-shirts, cassettes, coloured vinyl, CDs, toys, tickets, passes, programmes, cards, bootlegs or badges. Whatever it is you have, fellow fans will want to see it. It’s not only about physical items of memorabilia. It could also be a Queen concert or exhibition you'd like to review, or a convention, or a book signing appearance you attended. Gary and Greg have made a start with 18 newly created Features of their own, to launch with, and many more to follow. They cover numerous items that many of you won't have seen before. If you think you have something special or extraordinary that other fans would like to see, then share it, and start all kinds of debates rolling. A comprehensive Guide (suggestions and tips for creating your own clips) will feature within the channel, but for now, in essence, your video should (ideally) be 2-3 minutes long, NOT contain any Queen music or video, and cover any rare or interesting or significant item/s you have. You can present it however you like. Try to be original, informative and entertaining. You can be serious or funny: whatever you think appropriate. This channel is for you: the fans and collectors. You decide what’s worth covering, and what’s not. You guys know this stuff better than anyone else, so you’re the best qualified to present these rare gems. The ‘Rare Share: Queen Collectibles’ channel will go live in December (date to be confirmed), so GB & GT are inviting you now to start thinking about clips you’d like to contribute, to submit once it’s live. Dig out your best and most beloved treasures, and plan some films to share with likeminded fans all around the world. Full details of exactly where to go, and when, will follow ASAP! |

Any thought to doing a section on the free gifts that used to come with Fan Club registration/renewals? I've had a few car window stickers, sew on patches, bookmarks etc... over the years - don't know if these were generic ones available anywhere, or if Jacky had them custom made in limited numbers?? |

Of course a project like this will appeal to some and not others, like anything in life. To us it is a way of developing and bringing alive the subject of the many photos of memorabilia that have been taken over the years and now regularly seen on fan's websites and social media channels. The feedback from Facebook, websites and the personal messages I have received are very encouraging. We hope it is enjoyed by those who do find the subject of Queen memorabilia and collecting an interesting topic. |

This is a nice idea, but I would prefer to have a WEBSITE about the memorabilia and not a VIDEO channel |

Need more unseen video from live concerts because I understand that QPL doesn't rush release something new. Their minds work in the other direction. They know that we have a lot of live bootlegs and so they believe that it makes no sense to release anything new and rare. |

I would suggest launching a Rare Video Vault channel alongside this one. Sharing most of the music video rushes, outtakes and unedited documentary material (in moderate quality, 480p for commercial purposes) to eventually lead up to a nice DVD/BluRay release. For memorabilia lovers this Rare Share channel is a great initiative as I very much understand that standing on the sidelines of QPL Gary and Greg can only do so much.. |
Marknow 29.11.2012 11:25 |
If it was my job to catalogue truly rare official merchandise out there, and perhaps approach people who have certain items, this sounds like a great idea, with you-tube providing direct contact to anyone who up's something interesting. Sounds kinda pointless to me, maybe we are just the wrong target audience. |
cmsdrums 29.11.2012 13:27 |
Surely this site is doing what the now almost mythical 'I Want It All' book should be? I agree with the above post that a website which features all this would be better than some dweeb in front of his mum's video camera holding up an old tissue, saying 'this was discarded by Paul Rodgers after playing with Brian May and it's my most prized possession"....... |
brENsKi 29.11.2012 13:29 |
cynical head back on: perhaps this is a lazy-fuck way for QPL to find out what's out there without doing any of the actual research? just imagine the discussion that day: "tell you what let's post a handful of interesting things onto youtube, then get the fans who have stuff to post all of the real gems. once they do that...we take screen dumps and cut n paste all the info text and update our own archive with minimal effort. it's a scorcher!!!" |

Having said this i think this is a very good way of trying to put everything in the same place. I don't think it's a lazy-fuck way, but probably the most eficient way in doing so these days. It's very clever! The only problem i have is why don't they market it as what it really is? People would be more than willing to help you guys. I don't know if yoy guys (GT and Greg Brooks) think you're clever, or you just think Queen fans are stupid, but you have to work on your comunication with the fans. If you talk from the heart and be honest with fans you will receive back probably more than what you expect. Unfortunately, every time i see something related to Greg Brooks, it never seems to be what it appears. A relation between a band and it's fans is not just about taking, taking, taking. It's about giving as well. In this case we don't ask for nothing in return other than information. You guys want information, why not giving something back? Why not make this a conversation, other than a one way comunication? Rhys Thomas is a fine example of this, he's honest in his comunication with the fans. He doesn't hold back, and at least doesn't try to misdirect fans with vague answers. The audio department have somethings to learn from the video department in this issue. I don't have anything against you in personal GT, but i don't like to see people use the love fans have for Queen in this condescending way. I have nothing against this project, i just don't agree with the way you guys market it. You say it's made by fans for the fans and collectors, but it's obvious that you're gonna contact the owners of the items of interest to you privately. What happens in the backstage it's not of my business but by adding an extra paragraph to this "press" release would make it much more honest. It's the secrecy i can't stand! And coming from the audio people this seems to go on forever. And by the way, it's gonna be funny to watch queen related videos on Youtube 2012 in a Queen channel without Queen music! - Old thinking!!! But makes me think that this is probably a project you guys have outside QP, i'm i right? It really doesn't matter if i'm right or wrong, the thing is: Threat fans with respect and not like dogs! I only see you guys give something when you need something back. Now you're gonna show 18 rare items, but why only now? And why does it have to be in a project? Once you have what you're looking for you move on. Not even a nice reply in the biggest Queen fan site on the internet. You guys never give information, you only negotiate information! Queen fans are the best! I owe everything -Queen related - to them. Just go to the Queen Announce section. It's heaven! And this is why i'm replying the way i am. Because once again they're gonna share and support a project coming from people who have showed little respect in the past for those same fans, in this case Greg Brooks. This is definately a project i won't bother to support! |
