i think im going to get strung up by queenzone, but ......i have just returned from the best concert i have ever been at.
from the moment muse turned up on satge to the final bars of the last song i was stunned by the sound and lights.
absolutley fantastic concert of the highest quality, and an absolutley stunning set.
a good few songs from the new album but also a good splattering of older songs were thrown in there.
jamie(my eldest son)recorded a fair bit on vid and is on my youtube channell.
i know a lot of people dont like muse but i have to say, from the opening to the close i was blown away.musically for a 3 part band(4 if you count the keyboard player, the spike of muse lol).the sound was fantastic.
even elliot at the age of 14 with all his troubles let loose and went a wee bit wild singing and clapping along to the songs he knew.
so from aged parents 54 and 54 ,it was a night to remember for ever.
and i think that muse live(waits for the shit to hit the fan),were better live than queen....
dont bite my head of its just my wee personal review..
I don't want to dislike Muse. I remember feeling like they had potential to do great things a few years ago. Bellamy's really not a bad singer - none of them are bad players. And they're funny. I respect any band that sends up the practice of having to mime when doing television appearances.
But they shit me to tears. One day they settled on a sound that wasn't the best one they had to offer, and they stuck with it. And that BLOODY Olympics song ... shit on a stick, I still sort of find myself hoping that it was a colossal prank or something.
Having said all of that, I've heard them live (from across the road from my house) and they sound like they deliver, if that's the thing you want to listen to. As I've tried to point out, I don't entirely dislike them - I just think they've got it right in their hands to be making better music, and I wish they would.
Their best, certainly! I suppose I'm more hung up on the disappointment I felt when I gave a later album a spin (someone might be able to help me remember the name of it) because I'd been told it was amazing, and the Symphony part of it was just one too many derivatives for me. I know everyone has different ideas of how much copying is too much copying, but at that point I'd had enough of it.
Regardless, I still reckon they can go on to do good things, and I'm enough of an optimist to say that I think they probably will.
Didn't like the last album, love the Origin-Resistance albums (2002-2009). Saw them live twice, don't think I'll see them live this year, just can't be bothered to pay 60+ euros for a show consisting of mainly Resistance and 2nd Law material.
I have to say that the '2nd Law' was definitely better than 'The Resistance'. ...This is the thing with Muse, they are not the most original band out there, but they manage to gather influences from here and there and give it their own spin. Nevertheless, Muse is one hell of a live act and without a shadow of a doubt one of the best (if not the best) in the world right now. I've seen the live 11 times, and they never fail to impress me. I'm really looking forward to hear the new songs on stage. Some of them sound total kick ass.
The new album seems to be a great departure for them. They're trying out some new sounds, and they work well. It's definitely better than the last record. I only really liked the first three tracks, which was really disappointing after the brilliance of Black Holes.
A month and a half later...
The album has grown on me. They have cemented themselves as leaders, much like Queen and Bowie were leaders in the 70s. They take bits of other genres of music and incorporate them into their sound, without ever sounding forced. And they do it in a way that is completely accessible, yet without ever pandering to superficial tactics found in most pop music.
I therefore conclude that Muse is the greatest band in the world right now.
Bob, we all know that tag belongs to ULTRAVOX!
Btw, saw Muse live a couple of years ago, and was totally disappointed. Loved the Black Holes album, got excited by the Wembley performance and then got the tickets for my birthday - their light show was fantastic, but the performance was dull. I've never bothered with them since. Zzzzzzzzzz.
