Hello everybody, I'm working on "The Game" at the moment. Here are some of the songs I've done so far. Only three left for the original ten album songs. Both songs were taken from the "extras" part of the album. Here's "Play the Game", a version without fade out nor fade in. It features new vocals mixes, new panning movements, more balanced instruments (every instrument was very loud), a cleaner sound, and a true ending. Tried to give to the song some ethereal feeling in some parts, and give more strength to the begining "pum!" at the first "It's so *PUM*EEEEASY", and also to the bridge cosmic part. Enjoy it! |
C_Matt 22.10.2012 01:45 |
And here I let you "Another One Bites the Dust (Original Tempo)". It sounds powerful and so much cleaner to me. I tried to reach a pop drums sound, give a new face wash to the inverted piano and guitar sounds, rebalance the volume levels, and eliminate abrupt tempo issues. Enjoy again! |
beatmichael 22.10.2012 12:45 |
Bravo dude. Really cool. Interesting way to open PtG. I really love the cold ending. AOBtD has never sounded better to my ears. Love the sparseness and the heavy verb. Great feel. One thing that's always bugged me about this song, and it's really trivial but..., that last kick drum hit. Always sounded like a bad edit or something to me. Here, you've made it blend in better and added the verb on the end to envelope it. Sounds much better. Can't wait for the whole thing. |
C_Matt 22.10.2012 14:12 |
BeatMichael, thank you very much for your response!! I'm really happy by knowing you liked the songs. I know about the bad edited ending you're talking about, and it gave me always the same feeling. The problem was that there was an extra hi-hat hit. And PtG always sounded good to me, but the instruments were all too loud and made a forced ball of sound. I tried to clean it and give a more natural sound. Anyway, this album is one of the best sounding in the entire discography. |
Haystacks Calhoun II 23.10.2012 08:48 |
Good stuff, as usual. Your mixes have begun taking the place of the original songs on my Ipod, especially your version of It's A Hard Life, Hammer To Fall, and The Miracle Pizzicato. Keep it up. Looking forward to more! |
drmurph 23.10.2012 15:14 |
Great, I'm really looking forward to listening to what you've done. It's the main reason I hang about this forum now. As the previous post said, your mixes of the albums are now my preferred ones, you have a great talent, thanks again. |
Lord Fickle 23.10.2012 16:04 |
Like the mix of PTG, and the end of Bites is a definite improvement. Looking forward to the album, and I agree, it is the best sounding Queen album. I'll be interested to hear what you do with Save Me, as I've always thought the guitar solo was slightly 'buried' on the CD versions, compared to the original vinyl (there, I'm showing my age - lol!) - would be nice to hear that screaming out of the speakers again. :) |
C_Matt 24.10.2012 12:09 |
Haystacks Calhoun II, Drmurph and Lord Fickle, thank you very much for the feedback, which make me want to keep going on. I always try to reach a better quality than the original songs, plus adding some new things. Some songs are easier than other, for example from “The Game”: PtG or SASS weren’t very hard to mix and I can say those were a pleasure, panning and giving volume levels to the stripped vocals and all of that. But NYLT, Dragon Attack or AOBtD gave me lots of problems, mainly with the drums sound or the vocals volume, like Keep Passing the Open Windows at it’s moment. Right now I’m working with Save Me, a very very difficult song too, due acoustic guitars in some parts, panning the drums, or (like Fickle said) the buried guitar solo part, which kills an AMAZING Freddie performance in the back shouting with all his power, so I’m trying to make a fight between Brian and Freddie to be the “main protagonist”. I spent a whole night with it and still tying to find a right sound, and hopefully I'll finish it tonight and start with another. Again, thank you very much for the responses! Just few more days and the album will be uploaded. |

Thanks PiotreQ, just more few days. Might the next week I'll be uploading the album. I'd been studying and working very hard this last days. |

The drums sound very different from ones' on GHII or The Game version |
Lord Fickle 04.11.2012 15:43 |
Yeah, that's quite nice, Matt, but did something go wrong with the drums just at the start of the acoustic instrumental part? It sounds like RT is banging on cardboard boxes for a while there. Just to pick up on that, and to go back to your The Works remix, the drums were inconsistent on I Go Crazy, and that track sounded like two or three different mixes stitched together. I know we're not talking about The Works here, but this just reminded me of that. Are you, perhaps, overlaying one drum track on another, which might be giving unwanted effects? |
C_Matt 09.11.2012 13:38 |
Guys, thanks for the comments. I fixed that drums issue! The problem with 'I Go Crazy' was working with the track due the different recording process, very narrow and flat drums, and hardvolume differences. |

The anticipation is killing me! |

Hi, people. I'm really sorry for the long delay, I had some hard weeks full of exams and that things. Anyway, I finished the album and here are the 320kbps MP3 to download. Just download them from MediaFire and ignore the porn (or any kind of) adverts, which are just that, adverts. MediaFire is one of the best download servers, might not perfect, but still being awesome. As always, I love to read your opinions and feedback. Now, please, enjoy it so much! These are both parts, and you can put them into one CD: Part 1 (Original album): http://www.mediafire.com/?16x76wt6h2fa4bb Part 2 (Extras): http://www.mediafire.com/?fz55xozwnu4yqr2 |
beatmichael 22.11.2012 06:23 |
Dude, thank you so much! I'm snagging this and heading to the airport to go celebrate our American Thanksgiving. Perfect time to listen. And good timing on your part too. Thanks again, and I'll let you know what I think. |
C_Matt 22.11.2012 14:35 |
Hi beatmichael, thanks for your comment. I hope you like it very much and notice the major changes! Again, thanks for downloading the album. |
dceplay 22.11.2012 17:55 |
Both parts 1 & 2 have been removed by Mediafire less than 24 hours after posting. :( Maybe try posting whole album as an attachment? |
drmurph 22.11.2012 18:10 |
AAH! I was so excited waiting for this and then... it's been removed. Damn, I'll have to wait a bit more. Still think Mediafire is the best? ;) |
C_Matt 23.11.2012 01:11 |
Hi guys, it's a strange issue, I can download the files from MediaFire, and apparently some people have already done. Anyway, I uploaded it to RapidShare for those who can't download the files. Is not as fast as MediaFire, talking about uploading or downloading, but it will be useful. By the way, the forum uploader doesn't allow me to upload the file, it just doesn't work. Enjoy! https://rapidshare.com/#!download|122p4|3077889289|The%20Game%20-%20C_Matts%20HD%20Revision%20-%20Part%201%20of%202.rar|84730|0|0 https://rapidshare.com/#!download|122p4|1758469653|The%20Game%20-%20C_Matts%20HD%20Revision%20-%20Part%202%20of%202.rar|79674|0|0 |
Lord Fickle 23.11.2012 05:17 |
Matt, you could try zipping the folders before uploading to Mediafire, and calling the zip file something else, so it doesn't look like a Queen album. ;) |
C_Matt 23.11.2012 10:26 |
Thanks for the advice Fickle, I'll upload them again. It's strange because when they were removed I still could download them, but now the files aren't there. Weird too because the other uploaded albums weren't deleted. As soon as I can I reupload them with another name. Cheers! |
C_Matt 24.11.2012 12:46 |
I reuploaded the files without "The Game" in the name. Anyway, I've just tried to download the original ones and I could again. I'm starting to think MediaFire uploaded files are not available in all countries in the same way, like some YouTube videos. For those who can use MediaFire: link link For those who can't, there's RapidShare: link link Oh, and don't get confused by the MediaFire red box saying "authorize download". Just put the captcha and start downloading the file. |
brians wig 24.11.2012 12:54 |
Wow. Rapidshare actually downloading at a decent rate rather than the rubbish 30kb/s they've been giving free users for the last year. Thanks for the upload Matt, much appreciated, but why are mp3 again and not flac like last time? It's such a shame to have your gard work apprecaited only in a lossy format. |
C_Matt 24.11.2012 14:45 |
Brians Wig, thanks for the comment. Right now I don't have much time to split the WAV files and upload all of them to both servers. Might tomorrow. Anyway, don't forget the MP3 files are at 320kbps, so the quality it's slightly worse than the WAV files. I'll upload them in WAV soon! ;) |
PiotreQ 25.11.2012 01:29 |
Looking forward for the wav files ;-) |
brians wig 25.11.2012 07:45 |
Thanks in advance for the wav files Matt, though FLAC will be fine and take up less time and bandwidth for you on upload. |
Blaise Pascal 25.11.2012 11:43 |
All mixes are good (SASS is excellent), but Dragon Attack strikes me as strange for the drums ... A curiosity: what is the difference between the two AOBTD? |
C_Matt 25.11.2012 16:08 |
Hi PiotreQ and Brian Wigs, I followed the advices and uploaded the files in FLAC format. I hope you have a conversor like "FLAC Frontend" or any kind of player. Here are the links for MediaFire, tomorrow or a bit later by RapidShare: link link link link link The five parts are in no special order, they were zipped like that to get best use of space before reaching 100Mb, the upload limit for free accounts. Blaise, thank you very much for the feedback. My thoughts are similar, SASS is one of the best sounding now (with Save Me, AOBtD or PtG). A Human Body got an important improvement IMO. As for Dragon Attack... well, this song didn't gave anything but problems, starting the mix from the beggining many times. It was the last song which I finished, and took me over a week to reach a good sound. I like how it sounds, trough is different from the album mix. To me the original snare sounded very flat, and now has more body, and the bass drum was very hitting, and the hi-hat was had too many highs compared to the rest of the album. The stereo feeling was too expanded on the original album song, but mainly for the hi-hat. The drums solo was a bit opaque, anyway, I culdn't change the bucket sound due the way it was recorded. In the original, it gave me the feeling everything was very very loud (like PtG) and in moments killed Freddie's voice or minor details, that's why it may sound a bit narrow. The new sound of the song doesn't kill me, but I like it more. It was a really hard song to mix. The differences between both AOBtD are the speed and tone. While the extras "original tempo" version is in the same tone and speed that Queen recorded it, the album version was toned 1/4 note up like A Kind of Magic, Scandal and Khashoggi's Ship (trough I think that The Miracle album songs were actually recorded like that). In AOBtD the original recording tone was Em, and then it was raised a half semitone, so it's no Em nor Fm, the tone is between both notes, in consequence, speeded up like in a 2,4%, so the song is resulting album version is the 97,6% of the original one. Cheers! |
Blaise Pascal 26.11.2012 12:44 |
Many thanks for the explanations ;) Out of curiosity, what will be your next project? |
C_Matt 26.11.2012 13:55 |
Thanks to you for the feedback! I've been thinking about AKoM, but I'll do it later. Right now I'm working with ANatO, already have finished Sweet Lady and YMBF. Cheers! |

MATT: Part FOUR of your mediafire links has been removed by mediafire :( Any chance of a re-up please? Thanks :) |
Lord Fickle 08.12.2012 03:29 |
I've had a listen to most of these now, and whilst you've done good jobs with the remixes, I'm not sure that there's any real IMPROVEMENT on the originals. That's not to say that yours are bad, but it would have been hard to make what is, in my opinion, the best sounding Queen album, sound any better, without access to all of the full multitracks, and even then, I think only a little bit of 'spit and polish' could really have been achieved. I think what you're doing is great, but perhaps you're starting to change things that don't really need changing, just to make them sound different? |
C_Matt 14.12.2012 00:52 |
Blaise, I've read your post and done a bit of work on No-one But You, mainly changing that flat snare and lowering down the ultra shiny high sounds (like Made in Heaven song has), and other things. Here's the link to the song: link Part 4 must be working now, sorry for the delay: link Fickle, I get your point, but to me the album sounds so much better now :) Don't you notice important improvements? Beside is hard to get a good sounding album better, I think it does. For example, some important changes are: -Play the Game: Sounded very flat and all the instruments were very loud fighting with each other. Now the volumes are more balanced, and the lows have more power. The vocals were re-distributed, rising those that weren't very audible. -Dragon Attack: Added the shakers as the original recording tapes have as far as I know, gave shine to the drum solo (trough it will sound empty due the way it was recorded), given body to the snare, and more power to the bass. Anyway, I think this wasn't one of the best mixes. -ANOBtD: Gave shine to the drums without stealing it's dry style, more power to the synths snare fills, less attack and more lows for the bass, shine to the reverse cymbals, corrected some volume issues (like the starting reversed guitar+piano at 1:02), fixed the ending, gave some stereo effects. -NYLT: Gave more definition to the drums, recovered the missing shine after 1:55, balanced the guitars volume. -CLTCL: Recovered the missing shine to the whole song, changed the snare sound, eliminated that "bumbumb" marsh sound. -Rock It: New cleaner reverb effect and cleaner drum sounds, stereo effects to the synths and the guitar solo, cleaner Roger's vocals. -Don't Try Suicide: Gave more shine to the cymbals, and rised up some inaudible hits, cleaner general sound, cleaner Freddie's vocals, balanced the volume between instruments, gave an ending. -SASS: Very similar to PtG changes, added stereo effects, changed to a more natural ending, rised up the bells volume, recovered the missing shine and power at the 1:15 explosion, added shine to the acoustic guitar. -Coming Soon: Gave a depth feeling, more body to the vocals, reduced the marsh sounds, stereo effects to the guitar solo and some things. -Save Me: Used the recording drums but a with a different mix (more boxy and not so flat snare) and added the tambourine which was thrown away for the final mix, the chorus acoustic guitar and the piano, balanced the volume differences between the intro and the chorus, gave more presence to the backing vocals and the guitars, balanced the acoustic solo and it's multiple effects, recovered Freddie's screams at the guitar solo. -A Human Body: Killed that marsh sound, given the lost shine to the cymbals, the shakers and the acoustic guitars, more presence for the backing vocals, more body to the snare, some pan wave effects (going and coming) for the lazy main guitar (the one from the intro), and the other guitars in general. As always, I do this projects for me as a personal desire, so there's no a real definited goal of improvement or any thing that must or not be changed, just trying to get them a sound the best as possible as I can. But I really notice the improvements. This album is very well mastered in it's original form (with The Miracle are the best sounding), but it hides a lot of lost sounds from the old mixing ways, so it can be surprising working on it. Anyway, I'm really glad you liked the mixes :) Thanks for the feedback! |
Lord Fickle 14.12.2012 04:26 |
To be fair, I'm used to hearing the DVD-A of the album, which sounds awesome, in my opinion, but it's all subjective, and one person's 'perfect' sound isn't always another's. I'm certainly not criticising your mixes - I just think it would be hard to beat the original, on this occasion. I happen to love the original mix of Dragon Attack! :) |
brians wig 21.12.2012 07:56 |
Thanks for the re-upload Matt and the explanation of what you've done to each song, but can you believe that minutes into my download, bloody mediafire pulled the file and the download failed :(((( So. Did anyone else get file number 4 that they could upload somewhere please? Thanks. |

Dysan, thank you very much for your words. The first I've done is 'Jazz', but now I hear it and I want to work with it again with my actual knowledge in audio edition, same for 'The Miracle', and 'The Works' (the first in which I really focused in the quality). 'The Game' is now uploaded, but some time I'll make to it some fixes. Check the main topic for the link! Cheers! |

Atraer la atención de QPL a QueenZone? O a Matthew? |

C_Matt 30.10.2014 00:09 |
Hi! Yes... I evaluated all the options. It would be good to spread a bit the word, but I'm a bit scared too about having my remixes banned or something. I'll see how 'Queen II' comes out, it's getting really nice! BootLuca, thanks for notice that! That strange echo is actually from the original take that Brian did. I wanted to put it at the moment and there is it. But I didn't save the multitracks for 'The Game'. I'll rework that album soon, so don't worry about it! I started saving every song multitrack since 'Hot Space', so I have ADatR and AKoM too. Now, it seems to me that AKoM sounds really really great now, but HS and ADatR will be reworked too (in fact, I'm doing it while I work with 'Queen II'). Saving the multitracks saved me a lot of time, and makes easier to apply the new techniques I learn with every work. In case you are interested, I've just posted something here related to 'Play the Game': link |
