ROGER TAYLOR!!!! The coolest drummer in the world! Super job again Zippo. Great to see the focus on Roger like this.
You've got his quote in the song and it made me think of the quote from Roger that I remember most, which is:
"Don't like religion! Tends to fcuk people up"
Has been my favourite Queen song since I first read the lyrics (25+ years ago..). The only reason I want to find fame and fortune is so that I can go on Desert Island Discs and play this 8 times and play it to the world.

I used to think, "Eh, it's got some pretty guitar and vocals, but nothing particularly special." Then I read the lyrics. People seem to like ridiculing Roger's lyrics, but I usually find them to be quite good--there's something endearingly honest about most of them--and this one is a particular example of that. When I read those lyrics, it suddenly went waaaayy up there in my list of favorite Queen songs, even favorite songs in general.
Hence, it is currently my signature (when I change by signature, which I do from time to time, this comment will be outdated, but it makes sense for now).
One of my favorite songs, really and the lyrics contribute greatly to this.
To me there's something weirdly poetic about the ending. Sounds like nonsense but somehow it gets to me.
"It's easier from an armchair. Waves of alternatives watch at my sleepiness. Have my eggs pouched for breakfast, I guess".
I always pictured this sheltered little boy sitting on a throne, bored, not caring about anything because he has always had everything.
Maybe it's because the preceding lines, the bit about wanting to be something more than just 'the boy next door'.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time!!!
Lyrically it holds some fond memories for me....first hearing it on the blue ADATR cassette my brother got for Christmas 76 ....thru to school (1979) In English Literature we were asked to write some poetry/verse etc...
I simply handed in the lyrics to Drowse. My teacher was so impressed and I got an A+.....
Isn't it "half OF the time, we'd broaden ours minds..."
and " waves of alternatives...wash at my sleepiness.."
Typo maybe? Now I'm being picky ;-)

I'm sometimes tempted to hand in an obscure Queen song that no one would have heard of for a writing assignment like that...I guess I'm just too honest, though.
Also, you're right about the typo. That's what I get for lazily copying and pasting the lyrics from a website. :P
I'd change, but QueenZone's been really screwed up lately and I can't change my settings (also, I just noticed when I was trying to reply to this that the reply button is invisible).
And as you know just before the very final fade out after Roger says 'now who else do I like' he actually says Brian May. Turn your speakers up to full blast!

Who wouldn't like Brian May? He's out of sight, man!
I read about the "Brian May" comment and the end of Drowse but I've never really heard it. The 2011 Island remasters are louder and now it certainly sounds like there's something else there, right after "Now who else do I like".
I will try it next time I listen to it.
Your singing skills are awesome and I am sure that one day you will become a popular singer. I have writing skills and I am just join the cheap assignment help australia center and my future is too bright because my start is awesome so you can also choose like me.
I've been intrigued for AGES at the talk of them having gone through Drowse at soundcheck before the QAL New Year's Eve gig. Was Roger singing and playing drums? Why didn't they include it in the end etc etc.
Has Roger ever sung it live in any context?
Always figured that the muffled speech at the end would have just been him talking to someone at the end of the vocal take when he thought the song would have been over, too. Might listen a bit closer now.
The video comes up as unavailable. But, what a great song! The lyrics are some of Roger's best, but also some of Queen's best in my opinion. It's really a very personal song in the way it describes boredom and slogging through life. It really sounds honest.
And the music and production are also fantastic. The tuple meter and the acoustic wall of sound along with the slide guitar. And the production of the vocals. All very original and capture the mood of those great lyrics.
