Q: How long and extense was the Bob Harris 1977 bbc documentary about queen that's been used as source in many documentaries ? A: Basically all the filming had been completed but nothing assembled. So lots of footage of the band but it had no linking device. We found the whole thing which hadn't been touched for 30 years. We almost wet ourselves watching it through. There is still a lot more in glorious HD that one day we plan to finish of and release, perhaps to accompany some shows from that 77 US tour. ------ ^ Best thing I've read all year. |

This should be getting more notice here - he also confirms that the forthcoming Freddie documentary will air snippets of There Must Be More to Life Than This with Michael Jackson, along with recording with Rod Stewart, which I assume is Let Me Live. |

A couple hours of this 1977 footage on DVD or blu-ray would be an absolute goldmine. 20 songs from various shows, interviews and backstage footage as extras. Nothing could possibly top this. |

And are they 1 camera only like the HOuston footage filmed from the mixing desk as seen on tatDOOL docu ? 2nd. Question : is there any statement know WHEN EXACTLY Harris started and stopped shooting documentary footage ? Keep your fingers crossed for the LA 77 show... slim chanche... at least they were with the band Noveber 12th... at Houston... |

He's answering again currently, so you can test your luck. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Q:Can you tell what's the last date when Freddie recorded in studio? There is a lot of contradictory information about that. Some say it was in May, while others say it was in October-November during the last visit to Montreux. A:I have asked the same question to Greg Brooks, you will have to ask him. I think October is right. |

Wow, October. Surprises me if true. |

I think this guy is the best thing to happen to the Queen camp in a lot of time, along with Gary Taylor. I am very excited at the possibility of some of that 1977 footage being released in HD. Even if it's not a full show, it would be an awesome documentary. However, it doesn't sound to me like that's even in the works just something that he believes would be great to do. |
Supersonic_Man89 29.08.2012 18:27 |

To whomever recommended it be like a Queen version of the "Kids Are Alright" movie - you're damned right! That is the absolute model of what a good rockumentary ought to be. I was a bit turned off by the "Amazing Journey" one that came out a few years ago. It had a dicky sounding narrator and a bunch of invited wankers like Noel Gallagher and the prick from Pearl Jam, and they kept interrupting the good bits. The Days Of Our Lives doco from last year was better, but still a few too many tossers getting interviewed. Was I the only one who wanted to vomit on Harvey Kubernick? The guy offered literally nothing of any value and must've taken up around three minutes of screen time, total. So if there is a God, any upcoming Queen stuff will focus on the old material. Keep the guest speakers as far away from it as possible. I fuckin' mean it, guys. |

Like this bit too: Has there been any further thoughts to a Queen Anthology project of rarities - studio and/or live -- or possibly a live box set collection of the very underrepresented 70s era of Queen? [–]rhysthomasFM[S] 1 point 4 hours ago All of these things will come out one day, I am sure. We are discussing what do do next. Probably an early years DVD - Rainbow/Hammersmith 75 and maybe Hyde Park. Just discussions. Not confirmed.. |

He answered my question on what rarity he's heard that us fans haven't... "I haven't really. Well, apart from another song by Bowie and Queen called 'I Don't Want To Be A Rolling Stone.' It's stunning. It was later re-worked to become 'I Go Crazy.' It's good as 'Under Pressure.' It would have been a great follow up single. " Why haven't we heard this?!! |
Kevinrm15 31.08.2012 08:42 |
Well, a bit. That was covered in 'The Untold Story' in great detail. I didn't want to tread old ground. We basically do Freddie's early life and the whole of the 70's in about 4 minutes and then get up to his solo period. We have found an audio interview where Freddie talks about going to India and Zanzibar which has never been heard before. 12:49:16 Rainbow is great and we found the uncut concert with Seven Seas of Rhye and Flick of The Wrist on there. Also Paris 79 - maybe a Live Killers Box.There aren't any unseen things really. Rio 85 - the first night. That has never been released and I open the Great Pretender with Freddie in drag singing 'I Want To Break Free.' It's so funny. This is only on youtube but we have tracked down the master copy and fixed the sound. The whole show is good - a cracking version of Somebody To Love on there too |

This just made my day: "Question: You talked about the DoRo archive ,as something that is lost or not survived (...) Rhys Thomas: It's not lost, in the time we had to compile this documentary a lot of it could not be located in time. DoRo are great and have been very helpful but they have so much footage and it's expensive and time consuming to view etc, it was hard for them to find it all in time." At least we know that it's not lost. Great news. |
soxtalon 31.08.2012 20:44 |
I asked the anthology/70s live question and I agree that Rhys has been an excellent addition to the ranks of those involved with QP. His transparency is refreshing! How long before he gets a piece of duct tape is put over his mouth? |

Too much joy to express in words. What a fantastic person |
cmsdrums 01.09.2012 03:32 |
This is great. I never saw the point in Greg Brooks saying 'I can't possibly tell you what exists'. Rhys is happy to tell us, and as a true fan realises the significance of this info to our circles. And just because we know something exists doesn't mean Brian and Roger have to release it, but it gives us some nice discussions points and things to add to our 'wishlists'. The serious collectors may even be able to do some digging around tv stations, DoRo etc and find more stuff too once they know what to look for, so to me, everyone is a winner. I suppose the only downside is that now we know that certain stuff is in the vaults, how long before we are screaming for QPL to release it? But of course, that won't worry them as by their own admission they don't ever look here do they? ;-) |
tcc 01.09.2012 04:56 |
I think he should not risk falling out of favour by revealing too much and using the band's name/legacy to draw attention to himself. |
tomchristie22 01.09.2012 07:04 |
I don't think he's using it to draw attention to himself at all. He seems very genuine about it (much more so than anyone else who's had anything to say on the matter), and gives the impression of speaking out of enthusiasm for the material. |

Incredible how anal they are isn't it? As if knowing that a track exists can somehow make us hear it by osmosis or something! Anyway, didn't they publish the lyrics to that track themselves recently in a book?? |
Supersonic_Man89 28.07.2013 17:55 |
Yes I believe they did. With the rumours going round that the next Queen album could be a duet album, I wonder if they're thinking of sticking the Bowie track on there? I doubt it, but who knows? |

Just recently looking through the page, I saw some eye catching things: Q: How many tracks from the News of the World album were filmed by Bob Harris and his crew during the recording sessions for that album? A: My Melancholy Blues and bits of It's Late as well as Champions are all. These were filmed at the recording for the BBC Sessions rather than the actual record. And: Q: Do you have any idea if Live Killers and Live Magic will be reissued like all the 2011 remasters were? A: There are plans to release the live CDs yes. |
