Some guy walking around wearing a Freddie Mercury (sorry Freddy) shirt is now suddenly an homage? I've been wearing Roger Taylor underwear for years and not a mention. Not one peep. Pfft. |

hahaha! pele. a nice player, i think he counts even the goals scored in his backyaard, hahaha. Besides it is easy when you have good players by your side. Maradona played with 10 donkeys by his side. Much greater than pele. Best footbal players: Maradona, Ronaldo(not cristiano) and Messi |

Messi is the best player, as long as he has Xavi and the rest of Barcelona to support him. I believe he suffers a bit when playing in the Argentinean team. |

Yeah, like the 2010 world cup - they may as well have played me, totally anonymous. The only bad Pele world cup,(1966) was because there was almost a conspiracy to hack him out of the competition and they succeeded. |

I admire Lionel Messi as an exceptional highly skilled athlete and role model for youth worldwide due to his work with his own charity organization and UNICEF. However, I find it a bit hypocritical that an athlete would dish out $165 for a shirt to a greedy luxury brand. I'm not against anyone having a bit of luxury and wanting to pamper themselves with certain purchases, but for a shirt that could cost you between $10-$40, take $165 minus what it should really cost you and you could pretty much feed an entire poverty stricken African village for a few days, perhaps a week. Also, if you really wanted to pay tribute to Freddie, I wouldn't mind paying $165 for that shirt as long as the great majority of the profits go towards AIDS related charities. |

Went to my first Norn Iron game in 1978 (age 11) but George played his last game the year before, against Holland. But I did go to his testimonial, which was the usual friendly kickabout. Always felt a bit cheated that I'd just missed an era of greats. Never saw Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Charlton, Best etc., and in later years, because NI was never that good, never saw Maradonna, Zidane etc. Mind you, we did beat England who had Beckham & Rooney and Spain, who put this team out: Spain: Casillas, Sergio Ramos (Salgado 45), Puyol, Pablo, Antonio Lopez, Albelda (Fabregas 29), Xavi, Alonso, Torres (Luis Garcia 63), Villa, Raul. Subs Not Used: Reina, Marchena, Reyes, Iniesta. Can also remember beating West Germany back in 1984. The Germans out this team out: Schumacher, Kaltz, Stielike, Strack, Förster, Briegel, Littbarski, Schuster, Allofs, Matthäus, Rummenigge Subs: Engels, Völler Bloody hell! |

I usually don't like the crazy argentinian cult on themselves , but on a totally serious note, Maradona is hands down (haha) way better than Pelé or Messi. Pele had an awesome team back then. brazilians have been always good at football. Its like messi in barcelona, with a good team, an A class player can do wonders. Maradona handed himself a word cup to argentina when they weren't a thing at all (lets remember "HOW" they won the 78 world cup. with the peruvian and military "help"). Maradona was able to win a match by himself while being injured constantly by the opposite defenders. |

i guess almost the whole world loves freddie mercury nowadays, so this isn't so strange of course. especially not if you think about that "the messiah" of fotboll plays in barcelona, he must have heard mercury sing the song about that city a couple of times...ANd isn't we are the champions, the most played victory song in football, at least since the seventies... interestingly a song from the classical realm, was the most played fotboll anthem in a survey made by the performing right society 2008. puccini's nessun dorma took up 20 % of the playing time of fotball songs, the five years before 2008. so if you look for the best fotball hymns, ask for puccini or mercury, they're on top of this game... |
