The title pretty much says it all. I've only ever been able to find mobile phone/digital camera footage, though I haven't looked extensively or anything. |

There WAS a minute or two pro-shot multi-angle footage shown on I think BBC News or some outlet like that at the time. Can't recall what song though |

Black Dog. Apparently the whole show was filmed, but don't hold your breath waiting for a DVD release. |

Led Zeppelin hate their fans (or don't care for them at least) |

mooghead wrote: Led Zeppelin hate their fans (or don't care for them at least)I have seen this sentiment (band does not care about the fans) being expressed a lot of fans of queen (right here n QZ), Prince and now Led Zep. Every time the context is the official releases from the band. Just an observation. |

In the past 15 years, Page has released concert material from 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 75 and 79. Why should Zeppelin fans hate him? Or better yet, what does he owe them? |

I always thought it'd be Plant holding it up. The bastard. |

TRW: "Or better yet, what does he owe them?" Essentially, an artist doesn't owe his fans anything, although if it weren't for the fans, they wouldn't attain commercial success. I don't like the word 'owe', and I would never want an artist to spend their career doing the exact same thing, just to appease their fans. But they should still care about their fans. How they express their caring for their fans is subjective, and varies among artists, however any artist who takes a 'who gives a fuck about the fans?' attitude doesn't deserve any fans. For the record, I think that Page does care about the fans. If anything, he may care too much as he's done basically nothing of value in the past 30 years. Zebonka: "I always thought it'd be Plant holding it up. The bastard." It most certainly is. Personally, I'm not too concerned. As much as I love Zeppelin, I'm adoring Plant's solo career at the moment (Band of Joy is one of my favourite albums, and it's just one of several terrific albums he's made in in the past 2 decades). I just need him to visit Australia!!! |

Me too, :D, however other than that (and that was basically Zeppelin material), what has he done? Not much. |

Have to take your word on that. With CDs on Amazon so cheap, I'm currently ploughing through a whole bunch of music I missed out on first time around, but Plant is closer to the end of the alphabet than the start so it will be a while before I get there! |

Regarding Plant, the way to look at it is this. In 1993 he made Fate of Nations, which was a really good album. Almost everything he's done since (including FoN) is amazing, or at least really good. That, Dreamland, Mighty Rearranger, Raising Sand, and Band of Joy are all great, with Band of Joy & Mighty Rearranger being arguably the best (in that order). However, everything he's done before FoN (apart from Led Zeppelin) is a waste of time, with his 80's albums sounding very much like 80's albums. Unless you're a completist, they aren't worth your money. It's interesting as prior to hearing Band of Joy, I wans't a big fan of either Plant or Zeppelin. However, upon hearing it, I fell in love with it, and I started listening to Zeppelin again, and I fell in love with Zeppelin. I since bought all the other albums I mentioned, and I also bought my first Zeppelin studio album (III). While I don't consider Plant to be as good a vocalist as Freddie (which I only bring up because Plant's often ranked higher), I think he's extraordinary not in just in terms of what he did with Zeppelin, but also in terms of how he was able to adapt as he's gotten older, and he sounds better than ever. With Zeppelin, while magnificent, he wasn't flawless (there were times when he sounded too much like a little girl), and while he's not necessarily better than he was with Zeppelin, IMO he's a little less flawed. I'm a massive fan of both Zeppelin-Plant and current/post-Zeppelin Plant, and I thank the musical gods for both, however I really recommend that you skip some letters, and go out and get some Plant (at least Band of Joy, followed by Mighty Rearranger.) :D |

But we couldn't do anything that was a led zeppelin reunion unless the singer was there. quite clearly we're there, but he's not, so what's the point of playing games with it?" and:- "hey listen, if i was going out on my own i'd do led zeppelin material, but i'd do yardbirds too, but if we had come up with some kind of conccotion with the three remaining members we wouldn't call it led zeppelin would we?" there's also a certain reverence and respect in that last sentence. commendable |

been digging out other versions of this song - almost every one i discover is as good as the last and none of this detracts from the original - still love that some of the good ones i've dug out (so far) march 4, 1975 - dallas june 21 1977 - la forum june 27, 1977 - inglewood august 11, 1979 - knebworth june 20, 1980 - brussels (very fuzzy tho) |
john bodega 15.11.2012 00:27 |
I've always dug Plant's singing from 79-80. I've heard Zeppelin fans whinging that he was losing his voice, and he probably was, but I reckon it added something. At Knebworth he really has to give it the beans to hit some of those notes, and it sounds the way rock'n'roll should sound. |

He pretended to be handicapped so that he'd be guaranteed front row centre at every show he taped. Nobody would dare search the handicapped guy for taping gear, right .. ?! His Zeppelin, Yes, Stones and Floyd tapes are amongst the very best audience recordings of the 1970s. He committed suicide in 1990, and his masters are still in his room to this day. His mother won't let anyone near the room. |

There is some banter missing between songs, and a small part of Dazed And Confused was snipped because the band almost trainwrecked the song. 2. Separately from the cds, you mean? |

just bought the double cd/dvd pack today early thoughts? wow! correction. fucking wow!!! gonna play through dvd again a second time now for a more in-depth appraisal but "ramble on" "good times bad times" "kashmir" and "no quarter" are quite incredible think the "failings" in plants voice add something to the performance - almost like giving it a bit more character and charm |
john bodega 20.11.2012 12:40 |
Sent away for mine, I'm too lazy to do the retail thing. From the previews I've seen, it seems mostly undoctored, which makes me happy. |
brENsKi 20.11.2012 13:09 |
i think they didn't do many dubs on it - as with it being a one-off there were no other shows to get better "takes" - so correction would've required lots of studio time looks and sounds like a real show....and there's lots of interaction and smiling going on, all very comfortable around each other - it's actually really nice to see. and they all look natural, no theatrics, no showboating -just doing it and enjoying it mind you, Page's facial gurning makes him look like a cross between Keith Richards and a Bulldog |

This is the only item I listed in my In-law families elfster wish site. I hope they take the hint & set out to buy this & only this. No improv buying allowed! Can't wait to watch om my in-law's 65" Sony with full surround sound in the man cave! I'm taking a 6 pack with me, locking the door & smokin a bone! See ya when I see ya! Other than watching my 3 year old daughter open gifts on Christmas morning, it will probably be the best part of my trip! |

Pretty odd that I chose to start this topic only a matter of weeks before the official release was announced. I bought the DVD/CD today. The main menu alone gave me chills. Why can't Queen have releases with this sort of quality? |
john bodega 02.12.2012 03:58 |
"Why can't Queen have releases with this sort of quality?" What are you talking about? I love how half of the videos on Greatest Hits 2 are squished into the wrong aspect ratios. It has character. |
brENsKi 05.12.2012 10:44 |
i wasn't aware that Queen used "ANY" aspect ratios on their GH videos....thought they went for a "random" dimensions option ....my dvd player certainly thinks so, it even jumps between aspects within songs i'm fucking surprised that the visible screen doesn't go triangle or hexagonal ...cos they use practically every shape but oblong |

diverting (again) slightly ....saw Purple Zeppelin (tribute band) saturday - the 2½ set was really good. some pretty accurate and loyal renditions of some rock classics. very impressed with the drummer (Al?) who managed to carry of an extremely good "Paicey" and then better himself with his "Bonzo"...got the style of both pretty well nailed. But the guitarist (Mark?) really nailed some of "Blacker's" moves and sounds. and had "Page" down to a tee. even doing the violin bow solo. and the Danelectro came out for Kashmir. Especially loved Ramble On and When The Levee Breaks if you get a chance see them - definitely worth it |
