predicable responses I guess - would you expect them to play 'Sleeping on the Sidewalk' or 'Staying Power' instead or maybe the b side to Under Pressure....(which was actualy quite good) - 2nd post - well....what exactly was wrong with Adam Lambert, did you see the shows? - with the greatest respect it was 1000% better than Brian's voice - of course you could just not watch it, but I'm sure you will and still complain afterwards! |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Doc will be performing with Jessie J apparently. link |

let's guess which songs they will play, probably will be WWRY and WATC, songs that we never hear in life, right? |
arboria2004 10.08.2012 18:20 |
loving the responses to this post ! maybe you all need to look at this from the perspective of a member of the general public who is not a dire-hard Queen fan who can name the most obscure track (even from the Flash Gordon album!) - It's the closing ceremony of the Olympics....maybe WATC is quite a good choice for a change! |
April Lady 10.08.2012 20:40 |
Guys, grow up. If you like Roger and Brian, this is good. If you don't, shut up and move along. |
Toon_86 10.08.2012 20:50 |
I posted a couple of weeks ago they were doing WWRY with Jessie J. Might not be too bad, who knows? Can't see them doing WATC though, the line 'No time for losers' is not quite in the Olympic spirit. |
Marcos Napier 11.08.2012 00:14 |
And if you want even more obvious song choice than this, Duran Duran playing Rio (the "2016 mix"). |
sgs8789 11.08.2012 01:38 |
Brian (No Roger) at the closing ceremony???? From the leaks that have come out in the past day or two it sounds like it may only be Brian playing at the closing ceremony, along with Jesse J. What happened to Roger? Although if you look at one of the pic's Brian posted on his soabpox today it looks like Roger a bit from the back, facing Brian, during a rehearsal with Jesse J so I could easily be wrong. If the post from his soapbox below is any indication it looks like Brian may be doing a solo version of God Save The Queen. Some people love to spoil surprises, don't they? Especially the Daily Mail. It's not clever, or helpful. I hope they are ashamed. It would have been be so easy for me blurt everything out on my website, and publish pictures … but I respected the Team's wishes that we try to keep it all nice surprise. Well, there's one surprise which the Mail did not get hold of, and neither will they, until the moment I walk out there. I hope it brings spontaneous joy, as a completely live moment, shared by 800,000 people. I will be out there 'without a safety net'. Love Bri |

Well. The guys are playing live. Thats all that matters for me now. I dont (well almost) care who the play with anymore. We wont ever get the "old Queen" back, so i just enjoy to watch those two guys live. |

There are certain songs that artists will always. Play because they are so much part of the artists history and are so well known outside of just the fan base. WWRY is known around the world, it's easy to sing along too, it gets a stadium clapping it gets a reaction. This is an international event of which Queen are a tiny cog, with a limited amount of time to make an impression and connect what do you really expect, |
arboria2004 11.08.2012 06:59 |
Roger + Brian - obviously Roger in the picture + my link to Rogers' wife's twitter sort of means he is probably there anyway! - In regard to only referencing Brian in the press this is normal - again from a 'general public' point of view Brian is always the visible presence of anything Queen nowadays |

Wouldn't it be great if John Deacon decided to come back for the GRANDDADDY of the world stage for just one gig with Brian and Roger...for the 2012 Olympic Closing ceremonies ? Could it happen ?? |
bryony 11.08.2012 10:54 |
Maybe John Deacon will come on and attempt The Discus with a copy of the Stormtroopers RSD pink 7" ? Now THAT I would pay to see ! |

It SUCKS ROYALLY that Jessie J is coming to ruin it. It SUCKS even more that its WWRY. I mean FFS im all for a popular hit to bring the young folks in...but why not BoRhap? WATC? Oh wait I know, WWRY doesnt require a talented singer so Jessie J can shout her way through it. I would love John to come back for 1 play...but we all know it isnt happening. Brian said on his website there is 1 surprise that the Daily Mail havn't spoiled yet...but I assume its just something pathetic like what he's wearing or the stage. |

It doesn't bother me if they do WWRY/WATC -- it is appropriate, after all. I'm just not remotely interested in hearing it, especially sung by some non-entity. And if they play Fred's vocals over a hologram ... well ... that could well be the end of my association with Queen. |

Well, the pics have spoiled what he's wearing on stage... Brian also said on his website: "Well, there's one surprise which the Mail did not get hold of, and neither will they, until the moment I walk out there. I hope it brings spontaneous joy, as a completely live moment, shared by 800,000 people. I will be out there 'without a safety net'." Sounds like something similar to God Save The Queen on Buckingham Palace. |

Personally I hope it is a hologram. Anything is better than hearing "YALL right lets talk about the pricetagsss...im such a good song writer" Jessie J. |

Missreclusive wrote:If what I predicted is true, I think there's a difference between this and simply paying homage to Fred at a concert by showing his image on a screen. That's clearly a tribute to Fred and not any attempt to replace him. Using a hologram AND using his vocals is not only weird and distatesful, it feels a bit like replacing Fred with a piece of technology. Why stop there? They could collect all his vocals, using computer technology to replicate every nuance of his voice, and start making new music with a computer-realised voice standing in for Fred. But just becasue you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. This just seems disrespectful and unnecessary. I think they're stepping over a line here. Besides, what other band does this shit and retains any MUSICAL credibility? It always looks like a shameless cash in. Comapre this to Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys specifically writing in his will that his image can't be used after he dies to make a buck for advertising companies and you can see the difference between musicians with real concern for their art and Brian and Roger, who preach a lot about what's wrong with the music world, and then proceed to do everything they say they hate. In some ways I'd prefer it if, like bands such as Kiss, they would just admit they are shameless money and attention whores and just get on with it.Holly2003 wrote: It doesn't bother me if they do WWRY/WATC -- it is appropriate, after all. If there's an occasionn to play the anthems WWRY + WATC, its at the London Olympics by the Brits with or without Queen members. |
cmsdrums 12.08.2012 12:02 |
I read the piece, and there's no mention of Freddie's vocals being used, just the 'de-oh' vocal improvisation with the crowd? Seeing as most of the crowd on the day at Live Aid weren't Queen fans yet still knew what to do under Freddie's guidance, I'm pretty sure that those in the stadium tonight will be clued up enough to follow when the likelihood is that they've seen numerous times what is one of the most iconic moments in musical history. |
