Hello Queenies!
I need some help:
I have bought one of these Hammer To Fall 7" singles from a particular seller on ebay! link
The item arrived some days ago but it seems that this does have a reproduced sleeve! It is very glossy and looks quite new and completely unused - I'm not sure about the structure of the real live sleeve editions - but for me at least this apparently is not the real thing! I have seen that the seller has sold several copies of this item in the last few months - does this come up that often?
Questions:
- does anyone bought this 7" live sleeve from this seller?
- can anyone give me the matrix number of the original 7" live sleeve & the second red sleeve edition? (unless they are the same?!?)
- what about your "real" live sleeves? are they that glossy? does the paper have "structure"
I will upload some pics soon... but first wanted to know if someone can shed some slight on this case / item!
Thanks!
Hi
From the ebay picture it looks like a genuine copy to me. I'm not an expert, but the cover was glossy. The conterfeit copies had the word 'casette' on the rear side and were spelt wrong. Yours has the word 'cassette' which is the correct spelling, thus i believe it to be an original.
You might want to get a second opinion, but as far as i know, that was the distinction between the genuine copies and counterfeit ones. Hope this helps a bit
Hi...
thanks for your opinion!
Yes - I was aware of the second press with the spelling error on the rear side of the sleeve but completely omitted it in my post.
But there are still some points that are suspicious:
- the seller sold about 5 - 6 copies in the past few months...
- the cover is quite glossy - I have compared the Hammer To Fall sleeve with my copies of the It's A Hard Life 7" singles (corrected + uncorrected)... the Hammer To Fall sleeve should be almost the same. I mean they are glossy - but seem to have some structure in them - this doesn't appear on the Hammer To Fall sleeve.
- the 7" single is Excellent only - but the sleeve is Mint!
I think I will need to make some pics! But any help is appreciated.
Thanks guys (& girls!)
I have a genuine copy of it and it looks more glossy than my two Hard Life 7" (corrected and uncorrected) and my red Hammer To Fall. By looking I think you have a genuine copy too by looking at the auction
Hello again!
I have asked the same question on the german Queen forum - but no one's seems to be interested!
I still have my doubts - so please can someone compare his 7" cover with my edition?
Here are the pics: link
Some facts about this release:
- the cover is in a very strong mint condition
- but the 7" vinyl is only a vg + (
- the paper is very glossy - much more glossy than all the other 1984 7" singles I have
- for example the "It's a hard life" 7" singles (un-pasted & pasted sleeve) do have some kind of structure on the paper... on this one the paper is very "even"
- the print of the Queen-font is very good and sharp - but the live pic does appear to be quite blurry
- the back cover is not well manufactured - the left side of the opening is sloped - as the right side is
- on the right side there is some kind of adhesive tape
- the covers usually were glued - but with a tape?
- the also is the well known counterfeit with the wrong spelled casette - where on s is missing - here it is spelled the right way!
- but still I'm not sure if the cover is the real deal!
Please help me to find out if this is a counterfeit - just browse through the pics... and please let me know what do you think! Compare the pics with your genuine edition.
Thanks :-)

Seller was Galvinmoondust - known to sell fake autographs and bootleg repros. I made the mistake of buying from him once - he then came back, claiming to know nothing about Queen, and that it came from a job lot. Funny, over a decade later, and he's STILL selling from that same joblot, as it's always Queen fakes the fucker has. AVOID!!!
sorry...defi a home made cover..the record is taken from the original cheap HTfall's..
it's so easy to cheat people...take normal issues of the vinyl for only a couple of dollars, print your own cover and sell it for hunderds...
also a guy from spain is priniting his own covers for the regulair releases and sells them for enourmous ammounts.
there are so many , many of this transactions...see the seller freddyforeverrico or mr sadguy...they have nothing to do than gettin money..a lot of money by selling fakes on the net...and with lots of different names.
But who can blame them?...it's the way of living they're up to...and as long as there are people stupid enough in believing that everything they're buying is the real thing they will continue !! Do you still think..that a single..on the last minute withdrawn by the band, and from which only a couple of were available by the market,...from 1984,,...still has no sign of ringwear, no other signs of use...is the real hammer?...and he did have many more of the same quality, for offer...and who knows which names he uses more and selling it under his pseudonium?....remember the larrylurexxes on coloured vinyls?...the smile's on coloured vinyls as well...i do know people who still think that they are real...no counterfeits or pirates. DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE!!
A couple of other differences I can see to mine that would point it out as a copy:
The folds on the back are level with the top on mine, angled down in your pictures.
The hole to lift out the record in the back is an eclipse on mine, straight lines on yours.
So it's an improvement on the misspelt one, but still a copy.
Does anyone know if the 12" was counterfeited too? I got one about 25 years ago for very little money (5 £) and I've always wondered if I was lucky or just cheated. I compared it with other copies and it looks exactly the same.
and the bastard is doing it again....a new copy of the very rare live hammer cover....and still some unknown people are bidding....and what about
the rare freddie spain only ( home made cover )...??..still got a bid....people will never learn...
