Kety Perry has denied reports that she will be starring in an upcoming biopic about the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Rumors stated that she would play the bisexual singer’s girlfriend Mary Austin.
U.K. tabloid The Mirror first reported earlier this month that Perry was interested in starring in the film, hoping that it would be the “California Gurls” singer’s big break into acting. The role would be just her second acting experience, coming after voicing a character in The Smurfs.
However, during Tuesday night’s premiere of her 3D concert film, Katy Perry: Part of Me, Perry denied that there was any truth to the report. “There's something about the internet that's sort of funny—it's that nothing is true on there,” she said.
“There's been no formal offer,” she told E!. “Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious.”
Perry, who dressed as Mercury for her 24th birthday party, added, “I have to take a catnap first before I do anything.”
Prior to the premiere, a rep for Perry told The Hollywood Reporter, “There's no truth to [the report].”
Back in September, the Freddie Mercury project was announced by GK Films, which cast The Dictator star Sacha Baron Cohen as Mercury. The producers also secured the rights to several of Queen’s classic songs, including “You’re My Best Friend,” “We Will Rock You,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Another One Bites The Dust.”
"Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand all unto itself," GK Film's Graham King said in a statement at the time. “Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role couple with Peter's screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success.”

This is no news. For those of you that are feeling relieved, you should not. It only is true in that Katy Perry has not been offered anything.
At this point.
If I remember correctly, the original news report did not say she would star in it, merely quoted a friend that stated Katy wanted to star in it. Now you get her non-denial basically. She explicitly states that no "formal" offer has been made and that there was no truth to the report that she would star in the film.
Read between the lines and she's in negotiations and wants more money.
