Hello everybody,
My problem is as follows: I'd like to order a "more proper" version of the Innuendo-Cover..I know it is possible to print such an image on linen or whatever, and use it as a "painting". Does anybody know whether there's already such a "painting" in online shops - or do I just need a very high resolution image?
Thanks in advance,
Elmar
hmm no, not really looking for a banner.
rather something like this: link
I am looking for an image file of the innuendo cover, probably best without the font, in a high resolution, so it can be printed on a canvas..
I hope that was a bit clearer..

Well, I don't think that you can just re-print anyone's artwork on canvas without obtaining permission.
Perhaps obtaining a licensed print would be the route to take.
Try this after June 25th. link
Hello,
Yes indeed, you need a high resolution image in order to make it printable in canvas or any other kind of printable surface. Printing shops will usually require a minimum resolution of 300dpi to print in the original size of the artwork. If you should want to make it bigger than the original then you should provide the printing shop with even higher resolutions.
There are many shops offering this kind of services, the question is if they actually have that particular image in their databases.
Anyway I don't think this should be a problem, you can have it scanned yourself in a high resolution like 1200dpi and get it retouched on photoshop, and then have it printed in a print shop.
You can re-print artwork for your personal use, as long as it has no commercial purpose I guess you won't have any copyright issues. Copyright expires some 70 years after the death of the artist.
I hope I have helped you!
If you own the Innuendo album you can certainly scan the sleeve and have it printed on anything.. As long as you do not re-sell it.
Think of it as taking a picture of part of your CD collection and framing it... only done right.
You can get the LP and frame it. There are proper frames now for records. I have the original US Edition of Queen [1] on my wall in a frame with the 2011 Commemorative "Keep Yourself Alive" 7" single.
The other thing to be aware of is that the image on the Innuendo album is retouched from the original Grandville illustration. The original is not very large, it's only a page in a book and the drawing was done to that size, unlike today where an image is created larger so when shrunk down, it still looks detailed. It was water-coloured for the album, aswell, as you can see from this copy of the original: link
And the French Foreign Legion star was replaced with the banana. The scene in the story, Un Autre Monde [Another World], had the protagonist travelling through time and space. When he saw the Juggler, the star resembled the FFL's because the auther was making a satirical comment on French Foreign policy, that no matter where you went in the world, there was the Legion, so don't be surprised if they're spreading through other universes. Basically, it was contemporary political dig lost over time to anyone who isn't versed on 19th Century French history.
So, yeah, the original was smaller, in black & white and has the Legion star in it, unlike the Queen version.
Another bit of trivia: this is only one of two Queen album covers that feature an altered piece of existing artwork. The first was News Of The World's "The Gulf Between".
hello,
thanks again for the answers - especially the one explaining the background information of the artwork.
I will go for the framing of the vinyl..I guess that's the most elegant way - though it means for me to buy both the frame and the vinyl ;)
I also prefer the Queen Version of the painting, thus the buying of the artwork is not an option for me. Do you know, whether there are scans available in the media section?
All the best, thanks for the information. Every time I post something in this forum, it is great how helpful you people are!
