Legendary singer Elton John and a British rock band Queen will hold a charitable anti-AIDS concert on the Independence Square before the Euro 2012 European Football Championship final.
"Elton John and rock band Queen will play to support the fight against AIDS, here, on Independence Square," Head of the ANTIAIDS Foundation Olena Pinchuk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
The ANTIAIDS Foundation, with the assistance of UEFA, will organize the concert. The concert will be entitled "Your Life is Not a Game. Let's Stop AIDS Together!" It will begin on June 30 at 2000 and will last until midnight.
According to Pinchuk, Elton John and Queen refused payment for the performance.
The concert will take place on the stage in the fan zone on the Independence Square.
"We will not build anything special," she said.
The concert will consist of two parts, admission will be free of charge, and in addition, the concert will be broadcast live.
Pinchuk assumed that Elton John and Queen could attend the final match of Euro 2012 and said that she did not know whether they would attend the closing ceremony of the championship.
During the concert, the foundation will raise funds for a new joint project of Elton John's and Olena Pinchuk's anti-AIDS foundations.

I suppose now it makes the fact that they changed the date of the Moscow gig with no reasonable explanation a little more clear now as to why they changed the date from the 30th June. I suppose they could not say anything about it until the offical press release. (still not good for all the people it put out, but I suppose it lightens it a little.)
Why would anyone even daydream about Q+Elton at this point?? Elton sucked at the Tribute 20 years ago, I don't know why anyone thinks he'd be a better fit now... let him play his own music.

Despite his tendency to slur a bit (mostly during the first few songs of a set), his vocal range has improved amazingly over the last few years. Some of us would LOVE to see how he would handle a rendition of TSMGO these days.

hmmmm.
That's a pitty.
Queen+EJ would be interesting. Queen + AL not so.
Are you sure? Did you you see EJ at the jubilee concert? I wasn't that impressed with his voice.......AL would be a better bet than EJ imo!
Yaaaawn....
Elton is recovering from his respiratory infection.
That's why he sounded the way he did.
Elton + Freddie were friends and respected eachother. Freddie performed with Elton on one of his concerts. The Queen + EJ performance in Paris 1997 was nice. Much better than all I've seen from Adam Lambert. If there's one person, apart from George Michael, who could do the job and would have made Freddie smile in a positive way, it's Elton.
I think we all need to re-read the press release.
It doesn't say Queen + Elton John.
It says Elton John ...
and..
Queen.
As in ... it's two different acts.
At the Freddie Tribute - Bo Rhap and The Show Must Go On, then at the ballet, just the latter.
Elton also did TSMGO on his own tour in approx 92/93 as he liked the song so much.
Whilst I'm not a huge fan of his, I'd like to seer him when his voice is in top form doing some of the piano based stuff such as Killer Queen, Play The Game, Save Me etc... Where he can play and sing as Freddie did.

I won't speak for the other posters, but my assumption is that they don't actually think Queen and Elton are doing anything together - it's just that as soon as an artist is mentioned on Queenzone, there is an obligatory few posts where people like to discuss how they'd sound with Queen. *shrug* That's how it appeared to me.
I have to really disagree with you there philip, it is FAR from shot! You want shot, here you go...some classic '86 examples of Elton at his absolute worst vocally:
"Thank god Elton is not singing with Queen his voice is shot.I hate Queen and Elton's version of TSMGO on Hits 3"
It's not that his voice is shot (I mean on that particular recording) - it's just a total mismatch, musically. Lowering the song that much really robs it of any impact.
I have to admit though that I've mentally conflated the GH3 version with the '92 one. I prefer the earlier one - it just sounds like there's more of an effort going on.
