There's quite a big campaign to get the Sex Pistols 'God Save The Queen' to number 1 for the Queen's Jubilee. How about one to get Queen's version of the national anthem to number 1?
No because the whole point of 'God Save The Queen' by the Pistols is that it is anarchy which is what people buy into (a la the Xmas Number 1 campaigns against the X Factor).
Hardly anyone supports the monarchy (they are a huge drain on society)
Go boil your head,You don't speak for me anarchist! You are another idiot who has yet to leave his village.
The Queen is a great figurehead for the whole commonwealth. You are cheapskate when you mention money as they cost every UK Citizen about 50p worth in tax per annum. Less than a chocolate bar.
This went well. I get that, newbie but I think you'll find the people that shout the loudest are the minority. Like UK Uncut, Occupy and the like. The Sex Pistols are about as anti establishment as Gary Barlow. I'd like to see Queen at number one next weekend.
PS Chocolate bars cost fucking loads these day :o(
@ Band Forever:
You can't go about telling folk to "boil their heads" because their opinion happens to differ from yours lol
I'm not at all for the monarchy either. At the end of the day, they are only a "figurehead" because they were put there, by folk who felt the need to be ruled, centuries ago. Today, they are past their sell-by date, and serve no real purpose.
Figurehead? You or I could do it, and we wouldn't expect anyone to pay for our big house..... btw, 50p per household in the UK equates to around £30 million. Who the fuck *needs* that kind of dough per annum anyway????
FFS, the Queen doesn't even have "power" anymore - that's what the government is for. The government don't even need her premission to make or change laws - they only run things past her out of some sort of courtesy they feel obliged to show. And the part where the government is "sworn in" by the Queen is just for ceremony's sake. Also, the end of the day, it's US who put the government in power. We can take them out, as well as the monarchy if we like. We make or break the country, not them.
They ARE a huge drain on society, and are only supported by a certain religion here in the UK - it's not even about sovereignty anymore, it's about forcing a point of view.
As a Scotsman, GSTQ is not even my national anthem, and I do not believe in what it stands for....verses about the English coming up to give us a belt in the fucking nose. Oh, do you bloody think so????
The only time I even listen to the tune is when BM plays it, because for me that means something a whole lot different - i.e it relates to the band. But I wouldn't support it getting to number one because, unfortunately, the majority of the UK wouldn't understand that.

Utter jingoist bullshit. Your queen might cost 50p per head, but that's still a total of more than 30 million pounds. Money that could also be spent on healthcare or education, two fields in which the UK is simply dreadful. No king or queen since George I has made a real contribution to the well-being of the UK (George I introduced, de facto, the office of prime minister, mainly because he just couldn't be bothered to govern the country himself. That might just have been the last time that the UK set an example in terms of democratic progress. The oft-cited 1832 reform bill was radical only for the British, they were already lagging behind continental Europe at the time).

Yes, if only we had continental European rulers like Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm, Mussolini, Franco and Hitler the UK would be much more democratic.
Yeah, why should I be down a bar of chocolate each year when the Queen is up £30 million???? What kind of deal is that????
She should give up her palace and castles, move into a council estate; let the palace become a museum...it would bring in more visitors and boost the economy; keep her ambassador role, but tell her family hanger-ons to get a job like the rest of us; tell the world that the UK is NOT England and that Scotland is NOT in England; and then get rid of that line, albeit unofficial anyway, that they are coming up to belt us in the mouth....
And then I might respect her.
Oh, btw - the £30 million P/Y can also go straight back into the country, as Thomas has already suggested :)
A country needs a head of state. If there is no queen, it will be a president. Therefore the expenses for a head of state will always be there. I am sure that the royal family has contributed to tourism which helps to pay for their expenses.
