Hello, after a lot of time of work, close to studies and examinations, I deliver to you my latest project. This is the revision of Jazz album. The main idea was give to it a cleaner sound, fixing some things here and there, eliminating hiss and clicks, etcetera... There are some surprises too and other features. Just listen to Dreamer's Ball ;) So, here is the link. I hope you like it. link |

Oh, no problem! Might the page went down or something. I'll try to upload it later. However, thanks for trying Brenski! Maybe soon it'll work. |

Worked fine for me. Here's some thoughts so far... For the most part very enjoyable work, I especially enjoyed some of the volume corrections, like Let Me Entertain You. Some stuff on the other hand felt unnecessary, but I'll get into more detail track by track here. MUSTAPHA - I prefer the original for one reason, here the volume changes sound too forced, as opposed to the original mix's sort of lo-fi->hi-fi transitions. But otherwise, there's a lot on your version that would've been great to have in the original - the reverb at the end "hey" for instance. FBG - Good job on raising the vocal tracks and making the snare sound more humane. I wouldn't have touched the opening vocals priorities though. Still pondering on panning the guitars. JEALOUSY - Nothing to moan about here, good job. Especially liked the more airy sound of the ride cymbal. BICYCLE - Again, not so sure about changing the priorities of opening vocals. Otherwise, well done. IYCBT - Ouch. The complete silences felt out of place, I prefer a bit of air. Also, people breathe even while singing; it's not wrong to have that on tape. Still also, "sure feelSSS good" was kinda badly copypasted, and I'm not completely convinced Freddie meant to say "feelS". Overall, the whole song sounded a bit too tight and airless. LMEY - Very commendable work here. Probably my favourite song on the album and now it's even better. DEAD - Nice. Extra natural thunderbolt - interesting and nice. The only thing that kinda hit me in the ear was the panning on that mini drumsolo; while it was a nice idea, I would've probably done it the other way round. Now it sounds like either the listener is behind the drums, or Roger's playing mirrored. IOSD - Can't remember much that I paid attention to here, so it must've been rather good. DREAMERS BALL - Some good ideas there, but you should've taken them a bit further maybe. Reverb on Freddie's vocals rendered the rest of the band feeling like they were in a different room. But I liked the overall different feel to it. FUN IT - Can't remember much that I paid attention to here, but the echo at the end was a bit off, because it's supposed to be a very tight song. The flow to the next track felt a bit too delayed. The original felt better that way. LHAE - Good stuff. Couldn't think of anything negative to say (yet). DSMN - Brilliant. Great overall improvement, and your work on the tambourine was a nice detail. MOTJ - Yeah well... it is what it is. Can't think of anything to say, because I always get bored with it. Haven't listened to the five bonuses yet, but the reworked album itself is a recommendable listen. Thanks for the most interesting 44 and a half minutes of Queen listening I've had in quite a long time. =) |

I will look forward to downloading and hearing this over the weekend. It will probably be the first time I've listened to the whole of the Jazz album for 30 years! Oh, and you could have called this "Jazzed". :) |
brENsKi 22.05.2012 09:00 |
sorry, still not working for me wonder if it's a mediafire/virgin media thing? anyhow, woulda really liked to hear these - as your other stuff has been interesting any chance of "upping" these elsewhere? thanks |

thanks very much out of interest, were you hanging around outside EMI, wardour street 1993, when the master tapes went missing? because it sounds like you have access to them well done (again) |
Roger's Beard 22.05.2012 18:17 |
Thanks for this Matius. Currently listening through my Grados and will have another go tomorrow through my proper speakers. I have to ask if it's possible for you to re-upload the tracks and all future work as FLAC rather than mp3.... Love what you've done to the end of Mustapha with the echo... :) |
C_Matt 22.05.2012 19:01 |
Hi. Fist of all, I'm really sorry Brenski for not reading this before and uploaded it again at time, I'm glad you downloaded it and hope you really enjoy it (and thank you very much Rien for the help). Hahahaha, I would like to have those famous "lost master tapes", it would be so much easier (or better if they have done it when they launched the remasters to the market). I'm very occupied to work full time on this project, and more to put a tutorial. I dedicate a day or two for every song. JacquesDaniels, I'm happy you liked and enjoyed it. I can't argue any of your appreciates, because all of them are purely subjective opinions. I'm with you at your thoughts about If You Can Beat Them: the main problem with this song is that the drums are very flat and the snare sounds awful (In fact, I think this and Fun It are the worst mixed songs of the whole album), so it was very difficult to manipulate it without interfering with the other elements, like the vocals or the bass high notes. As for Fun It, the final echo was to not finish it so harsh (however, you might be right about the delay time between this and LHaE, the fact to me is that the track order is not good, I'd never put them together). I'm glad you really liked most of the others (my favorite results are LMEY, DoT, Jealousy, Dreamer's Ball and DSMN, the songs in which you can realize better the face wash). My track order for Jazz (considering the low relation level between the songs) would have been: 01. Mustapha 02. Fat Bottomed Girls 03. If You Can't Beat Them 04. Dead on Time 05. Let Me Entertain You 06. Fun It 07. Bicycle Race 08. In Only Seven Days 09. Dreamer's Ball 10. Jealousy 11. More of That Jazz (a shorter version) 12. Leaving Home ain't Easy 13. Don't Stop Me Now Lord Fickle, as all people here, I really want you to hear it and hope you like it. I never stopped to think about the title, but thanks for your suggestion. It might would have been something interesting, but I prefer to leave the names creativity for the remixes, and call this like a serious project using the original name for every album :) Pootle1, thanks for the feedback. As the WAV or FLAC formats are very weighty, I uploaded the songs in 320 Kbps MP3, the best quality for them. The whole album on WAV weights 627Mb, and on this way you can have it more quickly, just 125Mb. At the moment those are my resources, as I don't have a paid account on Mediafire and it would take a lot of time to upload one per one. Anyway, might I could share them by Queen Hub. Oh, I like the Mustapha echo too! |
beatmichael 24.05.2012 21:59 |
Hey man, really, REALLY digging on what you're puttin' down here. It sounds GREAT! I'm not even going to pretend that I can hear ALL the changes; my favorites so far are Dead on Time, LMEY, IYCBT... I like the removal of the 'air' actually. It's a really different feel. I also like the change in the intro harmonies of FBG. There's a TON to digest here and a lot of 'A-B-ing' to really appreciate the work. Thanks SO much for this! I'm already anxiously waiting for more and I'm still listening to this pretty much non-stop. -that thunderbolt is AWESOME! |
PiotreQ 25.05.2012 02:26 |
Given your previous work, I'm looking forward to hearing this one as well. Thanks for your work! |
C_Matt 27.05.2012 17:39 |
Hi Beatmichael, I really thank you for your so nice response. I'm really glad you liked it, and hope you listen to Jazz in a more enjoyable way. One of the purposes here was to make audible some vocal or instrument work that wasn't before like now they are, like the FBG low harmonies (beside correct some volume changes and fix clicks and hiss). As you say, the point was to give a different feel. As for the thunderbolt, I tried to emulate a more real sound, and I'm happy that you liked it so much. Thank you for your thoughts and the strength to keep my work go on :) PrioteQ, I would like you to hear it at a moment which you can relax and listen it complete, so it will be an enjoyable experience. Thanks for your comments! |
Lord Fickle 27.05.2012 17:59 |
I'm afraid I'm going to need more time on this. I've only managed to listen to two tracks so far, other than Dreamer's, and they are FBG and DSMN. FBG sounded fine, and I like the way you've cleaned up the opening vocals, but not sure about that guitar panning. Feels like there's something missing there, and when I was expecting the second 'layer' of guitar to come in on the right hand side, it almost seemed like it wasn't there. There's a bit towards the end, too, where it sounds like a guitar part is 'buried' in the mix. Sorry, but I'm a big Brian fan, and I like to hear all of the guitars loud and clear. :) DSMN, I have to admit, I couldn't hear that much difference, but I'm so used to hearing my own mix of this, I've kind of forgotten what the original sounds like! No complaints, though - it certainly sounded OK. I hope to be able to hear the rest of this during the week. I've copied it to my iPod, so I'll listen in the car, and come back to comment on the other tracks soon. |
Blaise Pascal 01.06.2012 14:36 |
By chance you will work even on solo tracks? |
C_Matt 08.06.2012 01:49 |
Fickle, thanks for your opinion. It's always important to know how to manage next time, having in mind all the advices you make me on the feedbacks. I hope you can listen to the entire album and like it :) Blaise, for now I'm working on the Queen albums, and I'm very busy with other things too, but as soon as I finish all of them, maybe I'll check the solo careers. My current album is The Miracle, which I'm almost finishing. |
Lord Fickle 08.06.2012 07:11 |
I have now listened to the whole album, and most of sounds fine to me. I have to confess, as I said earlier, I haven't listened to the original Jazz album for many years, so I'm finding it difficult to compare that, and yours, side by side, but I do agree with the comments above re IYCBT. I think it sounds unnatural without the 'air' in the gaps, and whilst it might sound OK in a more modern recording, on old tape recordings such as these, an element of background 'noise' is to be expected. What you could have done, and this is only a suggestion, was to add a little bit of reverb to cover the silence, similarly to what I've done with the intro in my mix of FBG. It just takes that sterile edge off. :) I was hoping that you might have been able to improve the drum sound throughout the album, but I guess that's probably too much to ask without access to the master tapes. Even on FBG, with the stems, I've tried several times, and failed. to make the drums sound better. Maybe that's something you could look at with The Miracle? The drums certainly need bringing up in Breakthru. The only other comment I would make is that I've always hated that stupid 'mix' in the middle of MOTJ, and if I was going to rework that track, I'd remove it, and have done so for someone who requested it, so I know it's fairly easy to do. Again, just a suggestion, as others may like the 'mix' section - we all have different preferences. :) Good luck with The Miracle - I'm looking forward to hearing it. :) |
C_Matt 08.06.2012 23:08 |
Fickle, I understand what you say about IYCBT. The silence was an aesthetic decision by my ear, I like the complete silence, so when it starts it explodes again. Obviously, is all subjective opinions, there's no one "truth" about it. If you listen to the Jazz album and compare it with this, you'll hear important changes on the drums on the majority of the songs. In general, during the recording process, you have two snare "parts". One is the box, and the other is the wire (this thing: link. The problem in Jazz is that the wire sound is very loud, more than the box sound, so it sounds like crunchy, toy, bodyless. In some songs (Jealousy, DSMN, MoTJ...) the box is more audible, but in the majority (LEY, IYCBT, DoT, FBG, Fun It...) the wire is louder than the box, so is very hard to fix it without having the multitracks. This didn't happen on ADatR or NotW. One of my goals was to get a better sound from the drums, which, despite not being a great sound at all due the recording conditions, if you compare it with the original Jazz, is sounds a bit different. The other goals was the noise and clipping reduction (to enjoy better the song), and give an overall better sound (the song which really changed was DB, the drums and general shine). It can be done with much work with the multitracks, but it would be like "cheating" with the three Jazz's songs from which we have multitracks. It would be heard very different beside the others. With MoTJ, On the "CD 2" I included a mix without all that mess in the middle, for those who hate it (include myself). Thanks for the luck with The Miracle. I've done Breakthru some days ago, and I felt the drums volume change too! I raised up the drums (mainly the snare) and the voice a bit. As soon as I finish the album I'll upload it. Cheers and thanks for your response! :) |
Lord Fickle 09.06.2012 02:46 |
Sorry, I totally missed CD2! I'll give that a listen sometime. |

I have listen the album, surely your tracks sound great. I can hear details that sound new, but they fit very well if not better compared with the original versions. in general I think it was an exhausting work but with excellent results, the question is obvious, how did you change the volume or the sound of a single instrument without changing the overall sound?do you have the multitracks? another question is: which source have you used? the 2011 Remasters? |
C_Matt 06.07.2012 15:33 |
Thanks for your response! It was a lot of hard work and effort. Ps: I uploaded a few days ago "The Miracle (Revision)", which I used the tools I already knew and new ones which I learned while revising it. Check it! ;) |

Guys, I'd focus my attention on Matt's most recent efforts. AKOM's main disc has just been "released" and the "bonus disc" will be uploaded soon. Matt himself has confirmed that, while working on his next projects (Queen II and Innuendo) he's already re-working previous albums, like JAZZ.and The MIracle. His skills have improved so much that I'd prefer waiting for a Jazz re-revision in the near future rather than sticking to his first delivery. I didn't download his first revision of Jazz, so will wait patiently for his Version2.0 instead :-). |
C_Matt 16.07.2014 22:46 |
Thank you for your kind words, Vali! It's absolutely always a pleasure reading what you write! wOvANz and Smile, welcome to the forum! The album is not available anymore online, since I heard it again some short time ago, found it horrible, and decided to delete the download for it. I'm working on a new HD revision for the album, as Vali said. The original was just to fix some errors in the songs, but with the new one I'm trying to reach a better sound. I recommend you AKoM or ADatR. Thank you very much! |
MadTheSwine73 07.08.2014 01:25 |
I actually can't wait for them. You're awesome, C_Matt. |

Sorry, double post! Ignore this one; my post is below. |
dceplay 21.04.2015 23:36 |
Matt - I have/had all of your HD versions of queen albums on my computer dating years back to when you posted your first one, and have listened to them quite frequently. However, I recently had a issue with my computer hard drive dying and lost all of the revised albums that I had (among much other music). I have since re-downloaded all of the albums that you have done on your HD revisions post, but upon noticing that Jazz was not on there (and I know I had it before), I had to track this post down. Now only if its no trouble of course, if you could re-post a download link on this thread for the version that you (& I) had, it would be greatly appreciated. I understand that a new one is in the works some time down the road and I will of course snatch that up when it's ready, but to tide me over until then, I was quite enjoying your first revision of it until I lost it. So if you still had it available (even though I know you said that you don't like the finished product), I would like to replenish my collection of your remixed albums-this one being the lone exception so far, but only if its no trouble. I know you're a busy guy, but we just love your stuff! If not, I understand & I'll just eagerly wait until the re-revision of it is ready. Anyway, thanks & keep up all of the awesome work!! |

Hello all! Wow, I didn't know this comments from April existed. I'm a bit late lol. Dave, this is like 'The Miracle', I don't have the whole album. Anyway, in a few minutes I'm uploading a bit of the new version in a new post. Thank you! |
