So.....any revelations from the Convention this year then? Any hints of exciting ACTUAL Queen news or did Peter Freestone just get free drinks again.....? |
GT 03.05.2012 22:08 |
It was great as usual - apart from the weather of course. GB revealed that the band are considering live DVD releases maybe as a one-off box or on three separate volumes - the early years, mid years and later years. The Complete Lyrics book will be out in June. Simon Lupton said that a new documentary is being made about Freddie. In my and Greg's section, we compiled and showed some Unseen Queen live material. |

Nice!! @ live DVD's I hope they're being serious about this and not letting it become yet another passing muse |

Good news on the DVD releases being considers - I just hope it doesn't become a butchered 'Rare Live' type affair with snippets from shows where we know either complete, or at the least extensive, footage exists. |

I personally thought and think that the greatest thing would be able to release some recent live release of a collaboration as Queen + at some venue that they had done in years past and release it as part of a set with the old one. It would be sad if they acted like the last years of Queen were with Freddie Mercury when we all know that they continued and have been brilliant both artistically and commercially. Why has the "Illustrated Lyrics" book not been released outside of the U.S. yet and not until June? I was looking at three of them in the store the other day here in the U.S. of A. Horay! It is awesome except the big dissapointment is that it only goes up to "Made In Heaven" and nothing afterwards. Another big letdown. How about the songs from "The Cosmos Rocks"? |

Wow, I never knew it was issued in the U.S already?!? This is just the studio output of Queen with Freddie, not collaborations with other artists without Freddie. It does include No-One But You, Feelings and all the B-sides that were not on the main albums. |

GT you must begin to spend recordings from the archives and don't lie! As the Queen is to be the best band in history if you do nothing to make it happen ... Maylor (Brian and Roger - such a combination of two of unity;)) says he does not want to draw money from the fans for the antiquities from drawers ... fans want to archive recordings, we want to spend money on a new old recordings ... I remember as one years ago, Roger said that Queen is working on a new album in the style of Made In Heaven, such continuation of Made In Heaven ... He said that they have the materials from the 80's and are really good and interesting ... then it was a lie ... Queen + MJ recordings also appear to be that they lie, They don't work over anything ... as usual ... Can you explain this GT? |
GT 09.05.2012 16:14 |
Many plans and ideas have been changed or fallen by the wayside over the years, even from the early days. Sometimes projects are put on hold, delayed or just don't come to fruition, and that is the band's choice. New ideas and plans are made all the time and often take centre stage at the expense of other muted projects. Some are returned to and some not, whether we all like it or not. |

As for the hints... It's a double-edged sword. Queen releases are half-arsed (at best), and all the talk about the potential future releases can only build us up for the eventual disappointment. Maybe once in a while they could actually realise some of those hints, and THEN we can have this dicussion. |
Kacio 10.05.2012 04:21 |
I don't want to hear about any hints. I want to see action! New old archived issues. >He gave me a copy of his second Queen Live book for FREE & SIGNED when I originally offered to pay for it. Fuck me - what generosity. Perhaps it was more out of guilt for producing such a factually incorrect and plagiarised 1st edition. Come to think of it - the 2nd edition was nothing more than a newer factually incorrect, plagiarised edition - he should have been handing the out, free of charge on street corners to anyone who'd parted with money for the 1st edition........ Greg's self-serving; the live "list" was nothing more than most people could already take a pretty decent stab in the dark at guessing. He was always after something and gave very little. Good riddance to the chubby git. |

You cold-hearted bastard... You started this thread asking for info, it was given to you from GB passed on from GT and all you can do now is bite the hands that feed you? Sure, most of that list was predictable set aside a few 86 shows. It's not Greg's fault. Again, he is told what he can and can't say. That list was censored by Jim Beach. He originally listed EVERYTHING to share with us. So Jim Beach is the one you should be mad at, not him! |

I recall video of Roger in recent months discussing the possibility of the release of an anthology saying something like "I imagine the record comany will want something like that at one point. It just sounds like a lot of work to me." The tone and manner was definitely along the lines of 'I may be made to do this down the road but it's not a project I look forward to or would necessarily choose on my own'. To the extent that a catalogue is a fundamental record company asset, thought through it's logical and reasonable that they have some influence. |

Gary Taylor (or GT as he's also known on this forum) works with the band Queen, providing assistance on many of their releases with research, liner notes, and other miscellaneous work that we may not all be privy to. He also attends the conventions, and like Greg Brooks (the band's archivist) has also done, he will show rare unreleased footage and interact with the fans. That's the basic summary here. |

I would guess there is at least some discussion between the record companies and the band about what is releasedAbsolutely there is. To think that Brian and Roger are getting up everyday to work on releasing something from 30+ years ago is laughable. As long as they are employed by Hollywood Records, who holds exclusive rights to what is released (here in the States), Hollywood has the final say. Brian could ask that an entire Hot Space Tour Box Set with 60 page booklet and T Shirt be released, but if Hollywood doesn't think it will sell... they aren't gonna do it. I sure as heck wouldn't authorize a release until after the Adam Lambert shows, to see if that generates any market for old footage. A few die-hards who catalog every show, press clip, interview, etc. is NOT a market. If 13 year old Billy will buy the Lambert DVD and a Queen CD, then it's possible. Our hopes rest in the hands of Team Edward and Team Jacob. If they won't buy it.... we won't see it. |

The only people who would know are the employees of QPL, Universal and Hollywood Records who are also employed under the circumstances involving that fine line in their contracts involving the "NON-DISCLOSURE CLAUSE" stipulation, so please stop asking. You will not get your answers this way because people like GT, GB and Jim Jenkins are forbidden as such from releasing unauthorized information. Unless they want to lose their privileged jobs and get sued in court that is, but I doubt 100% that is in their best interests. |
