This'll be the first track of my next single (called Queen - Spread Your Wings (AlexQ BBC Remix).
It's a remix between the original Album version (1977) and the BBC Session (News of the World - 2011 Bonus EP), officially called "Spread Your Wings (BBC Session, October 1977)". The videomix and the complete single is very coming soon!
Thank you, and remember to fly away, sometimes!
;)
Unfortunately, the first edit on the acoustic guitar is terrible, as is the last one where the drums from the BBC version come back in. You've missed whole notes or beats on both, and it spoils the transition between the two versions.
To be honest, the BBC version is far superior to the album version, so I'm not sure what the point of tryIng to merge them is anyway.
Oh, and technically, it's just a mix, not a remix. ;)
@ LF : I don't think that you're completely right.
I don't think that it's so bad.
Also, I'm a beginner (I made my first remix in early March 2012), so I ask you "practitioners" do not be too hard on me.
Also because some of you "practitioners" do something much worse than mine
Thank you, AlexQ.
There is a jump, a beat missing, after the end of where Freddie sings 'at the Emerald bar...', in the first verse, before the acoustic guitar from the BBC version comes in. There should have been a one beat gap there, but you brought the acoustic guitar in too soon.
I'm not trying to be 'hard', I'm just being honest, but if you'd rather I didn't comment on your mixes, that's fine with me. As I've said before, though, by listening to people saying something is good, when it isn't, you're not doing yourself any favours, as you will not be learning from your mistakes.
We all had to start somewhere, and some of my early mixes were also terrible, the difference being, I didn't have anywhere to put them on show to the world, so I had to learn by myself, without the benefit of constructive criticism.
See ya! :)
Ok, LF. of course you can always comment on my remixes and my mixes.
Thanks for expressing your point of view (and for being honest).
I'll try to fix the remix in the single.
PS : can u give an opinion about the "extended"(7:40 min)? Thank you, friend!
Well, the instrumental section was interesting, in that it reminded me of it's existence, and that someone mentioned that it has some different guitar parts to the standard version, so I was going to dig it out to listen to. Sadly, the edit out of that section is poorly timed, like the one I mentioned above.
The reverse piano intro doesn't really work for me, but I like the piano outro, which was a nice touch, although, I would have faded it out and got rid of the drum at the end, or, at least just got rid of the drum, and perhaps ended on a piano note with a subtle reverb.
Try practising with cross fading for your edits, instead of just cutting and pasting, and you'll find the results are much smoother. Also, the volume needs normalising throughout the track, as some sections are louder than others.
You can do it manually. The thing is when you use a tracks from different sources/releases they often have different volume. Also it's good to 'equalize' them to common level to make them sound equal or at least as similar as it's possible :-) Sometimes one of the tracks you mix has too much bass or treble in comparison to the other one.
Very often there is a lot of very small things to do which are not noticeable when they are fixed, but when you miss them then they ARE noticeable ;-)
