Taylor will be back in Queen mode come June and early July, when he and May play four planned shows with "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who they performed with during the 2009 "Idol" finals and at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. Though a July 7 Sonishphere date in the U.K. was canceled, the June 30 show in Moscow in still on, and Taylor says Queen and Lambert will also play on a bill with Elton John in Kiev as well as do two early July shows at the Hammersmith Apollo to provide "some alternative... for some of the people who had bought tickets" to Sonisphere. Details for the other three dates will be announced soon. |

Nice! :D I wonder if Elton will guest with them for a 3rd one-off performance of TSMGO? His range has improved quite considerably in the last few years, would like to see how he would handle that one now. |

View All Music News QUEEN -- + ADAM LAMBERT -- WILL ROCK US SEVERAL TIMES THIS SUMMER 4/9/2012 It looks like Queen will be busy with new frontman Adam Lambert this summer. Drummer Roger Taylor tells The Insider that he and guitarist Brian May are planning to play four shows with the former "American Idol" finalist -- a June 30 concert in Moscow, another with Elton John in Kiev and two early July shows at the Hammersmith Apollo in England. The latter is to provide "some alternative...for some of the people who had bought tickets" to a July 7 Sonishpere festival date in England that was canceled. "We're really excited about it," Taylor says. "Adam...of course he has this unbelievable range, like Freddie (Mercury) had range. Adam can really cover it. He's an extraordinary singer and a real talent. I feel he fits into our sort of theatricality." As for doing more with Lambert, Taylor says that "we're just going to see what happens, how well it goes, how we get on." Taylor and May first performed with Lambert during the 2009 "Idol" finals and then at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. Taylor says he and May have also been approached to be part of the Summer Olympics closing ceremonies in London but adds that "I don't think we're meant to say too much about it yet." Taylor and May are currently busy getting the new tribute road show, "The Queen Extravaganza," ready for its May 26 opening in Quebec, including a two-night "introduction" of the cast on the April 25-26 episodes of "American Idol." The "Extravaganza" plays on May 31 at Detroit's Fox Theatre. |

Wouldn't mind Elton John touring with them permanently. I know he isn't the best choice but he was really good friends with Freddie till the day he died and his voice range is good enough for the songs. And most importantly... Its friggen Elton John. |

Queen could've replaced him with dozens of other drummers and he wouldn't have been missed. His solo career bombed so now he just wants to dump all over Freddie's memory. Adam has range but a terrible sound. Range means very little if it doesn't sound good. How he could even compare Adam to Freddie shows what an utter wanker he is. Without Freddie we would have never even heard of Roger "puffer fish" Taylor I'm not anti-AL. Not my cup of tea but a good performer but HE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE to being in the same league with Freddie Mercury. The sound of FM's voice was simply beautiful. Case in point: "You Take Me Breath Away" & "How Can I Go On?" |

There is no Kiev date on the Elton John tour schedule yet. I wonder what AL's role would be in such a combination - Elton John is a fantastic singer himself, no need to bring AL imo. I would travel far and wide to see BriRog with Elton but I would need a chance to plan it. |

I guess the "some alternative... for some of the people who had bought tickets" -line means there were no more than a few thousand people interested in the combination? It COULD be that Boger & Lambert are interested in playing rare songs for the hardcore fans, but it's more likely that even they don't believe in their capability to sell out arenas this time. The final confirmation comes with the setlist... |

Why are so many propel talking about Elton John Being. On stage with Queen. That is not what Roger Taylor has said. He did say we are doing a show with EJ singing. Queen will appear on the same bill as Elton John, not on stage with him tero! 48531. The Hammersmth holds over 5000, playing two nights there is the same as playing one night in Wembley arena the difference is better sound and better views. They've made it clear that they aren't doing a full tour. |

They've made it clear that they aren't doing a full tour. It's still only 40% of the Wembley capacity, which means it's a LOT easier to sell out. I hate to me overly negative (I really do!), but surely they would pick out a bigger arena for the show if they thought they could fill one? It's not like they're known for playing to smaller audiences? |
Vocal harmony 10.04.2012 08:03 |
I'd rather see them at the Hammersmith, better sound better view. I could be wrong, but I don't think they'll play the o2 again. The place is a lifeless shed. In London that leaves Earls Court or Wembley. They didn't like playing Earl Court in 77. Two night at Hammersmith = just over 10 thousand tickets one night at Wembley arena is only 2000 more. If they were worried about selling 12 thousand tickets would they risk 10 thousand over two nights? |

Two night at Hammersmith = just over 10 thousand tickets one night at Wembley arena is only 2000 more. If they were worried about selling 12 thousand tickets would they risk 10 thousand over two nights?Except for the fact that there are about 3,500 people who are buying tickets for two nights. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a smaller arena as well (if I was interested in seeing the band), but that's not their reason for having this venue. Based on the available facts (Boger choosing to play bigger arenas whenever possible and picking a small arena after the failed Sonispehere sales) it's very likely that I'm correct. :D |
Doga 10.04.2012 10:32 |
Just speculation, of course. But how about Queen want to make a small venue with a interesting setlist (a lot of rarities & oldies), and then release it and have a lot of sells of the CD/DVD/Bluray. The perfect example is Paul Rodgers in Glasgow, he choose a ridiculous small venue for record his album, but had the songs their fans want, so the album became nº1 in a insane list of countries. Then, Queen in Ukraine, the biggest gig in Queen history, and a good gig too! But with a greatest hits setlist, the same of Return Of The Champions plus Bijou, C-Lebrity & Soothing Star, so the sells were poor. Perhaps Brian & Roger want to do this, and if the tickets sells quickly, maybe they will add more nights. Adam is a Queen fan, sure they don't care the small venues if he has the oportunity to sing awesome songs. |
splicksplack 10.04.2012 11:05 |
If they were daft enough to record a live album it would not sell. No Freddie Mercury. I think lessons may have been learnt after the TCR fiasco. |

I'm complaining about homophobic language - i.e. the term "arse-bandit". abc1, by suggesting the 2 men fuck each other is not being homophobic. It is merely a suggestion that 2 men have sex. Referring to someone as an "arse bandit" is homophobic. It's a derogatory, insulting name for a gay man. I presume you are a straight male. I suppose you wouldn't mind being referred to as a "cunt bandit" but that is because you are not in a minority and haven't been persecuted because you are attracted to women. The ironic thing is that you happily use such a term while being a fan of a band that had a promiscuous gay man as their lead singer. Do you have a poster of Freddie on the wall saying "My hero - Freddie the Arse Bandit"? Have a think. |
Vocal harmony 10.04.2012 19:18 |
Slicksplack, why don't you have a think. abc1 made an insulting comment that two straight men should perform a gay act on stage in front of an audience. That to me is also an insult to the gay community because the description was being used has an insult to BM RT and Adam Lambert. Who is as you know a gay man. My use of the term that you have taken offense too was directed at abc1. Since by the tone of his post he obviously has a problem with gay people. No I am not homophobic. However as well as using insulting language you seem to, wrongly or rightly make a lot of assumptions. Look at the bigger picture and think about what is being written and why. |

Queen with Adam Lambert – Despite Cancelled Sonisphere, UK Concerts To Go Ahead Just two weeks after the shock cancellation of Sonisphere 2012 where they were due to headline with singer Adam Lambert, rock band Queen has announced they are to go ahead with a UK concert appearance this summer after all. The band today announced that the highly anticipated pairing of Queen and Lambert will instead take place at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo over two nights, July 11 and 12. In the announcement the band also promised to endeavour to give priority booking to those who had held tickets for their Knebworth concert. Tickets will go on sale next week, first to Queen fans and Sonisphere ticket holders and then on general sale. Says a band spokesperson, “Queen acted immediately in looking for an alternative venue in an aim to avoid disappointing all those fans who had so desperately looked forward to seeing them at Knebworth. Coming in the lead into the Olympics, most of the venues they first approached were unavailable, being taken as official London Games 2012 venues. As the setting of some of the band’s best remembered concerts, the idea of returning to this historic Hammersmith venue really appealed to them.” Said Brian May: " Somehow this feels right - The Odeon is a big part of our history, and its atmosphere is second to none. It's the perfect place to acknowledge our faithful fans, and will be a fitting return to our roots !" Roger Taylor adds: "We had made up our minds to play in the UK this year, so play we will ! Following the collapse of the Sonisphere organisation we didn't want to let down all those people expecting to see us live!" Speaking from the US, Adam Lambert said: “I’m so thrilled that Queen found a way to ensure that the fans will get to see this event this summer. I can’t wait to be in London to perform with Queen for these incredibly special shows!” Originally known as the Hammersmith Odeon, the venue was the scene of four sold-out Queen concerts in late November/early December 1975, as well as a special Christmas Eve show; and the band returned for a triumphant end-of-tour show in December 1979, playing the opening night of a series of UNICEF concerts for the people of Kampuchea. Amongst fans, the Hammersmith shows continue to be regarded as some of Queen’s most exceptional. Broadcast live on national radio and TV, the Christmas show has become one of the most heavily bootlegged in the band's career, and an edited version of the show has been recently shown by the BBC. But a high quality official release DVD is now planned, unedited, which will include the audio of all of the songs which were not originally transmitted on TV. Tickets for Queen + Adam Lambert concerts at HMV Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday July 11 and Thursday July 12 will first be available on a 24-hour presale to Queen Online subscribers, Queen Fan Club members and Sonisphere ticket holders from 9am on Tuesday April 17. Pre-sale details will be sent on to these communities separately via e-mail. General sales start Wednesday 18th April at 9am at link and through Ticketmaster. Caller lines: . HMV Tickets 08432 221 0100 / Ticketmaster 08448 444 748. Tickets are priced at £65.00, £70.00 and £75.00 plus £6 booking fee on all prices. For tickets by post an additional charge will apply. |
