QUEEN LIVE AT HYDE PARK 1976 Hyde Park, London, UK // 1976-09-18 link Lineage: BASF LH Super SM 120 cassette > Rotel RD185 cassette player > Audacity (digital audio transfer) > WAV > iTunes (CD-R burning) > 2x CD-R's > WAV > GarageBand (track splitting) > Audacity (pitch/speed correction) > WAV > FLAC (Level 8) > WAV > Cubase 6 (with UAD Precision Equalizer, UAD Precision Multiband, UAD Pultec-Pro, X-Noise Stereo & L2 Stereo plug-ins) > WAVE > Adobe Audition 1.5 (additional click removal) > Goldwave (CD tracklist timing) > WAVE + CUE sheet > foobar2000 > FLAC (Level 8) Quality: Good (very muffled, some strange phasing in the first few tracks) Audio restoration & remaster by Jimmy Payne (Joshua Biasini) Supervision & additional audio restoration by inu-liger (Richard Guilbault) Speed & pitch correcting by Gregsynth (Greg Barnes) Artwork by Alex Solan & GT - COMMENTS: Despite (at time of writing) recent unfortunate developments in certain inner trading circles committed by people afflicted with something called 'Priority Thinking for People with Common Sensibilities', we are not in any way deterred from sharing the 2nd installment in the GT series of previously unreleased and unheard Queen concert tapes. Following the success of our first group effort, Earl's Court 1977 First Night, we are pleased to put out a new alternate audience source for Queen's legendary concert at Hyde Park '76. Despite the barely listenable quality (which took a LOT of effort to make it listenable through remastering it from the original raw audio!), this bootleg does not contain significant cuts in "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Liar" unlike other bootleg sources from the same show, as pointed out by GT himself. There ARE a couple minor brief cuts and hiccups here and there, but thankfully only inbetween songs! "Liar" however has some strange click action going on which we have tried our best to significantly reduce through intense pop/click removal methods! We hope you, the listener and Queen fan alike, will enjoy our latest release all the same! - SETLIST: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody (Taped Intro) 2. Bohemian Rhapsody 3. Ogre Battle 4. Sweet Lady 5. White Queen 6. Flick Of The Wrist 7. You're My Best Friend 8. Bohemian Rhapsody 9. Killer Queen 10. March Of The Black Queen 11. Bohemian Rhapsody (reprise) 12. Bring Back That Leroy Brown 13. Brighton Rock 14. Guitar Solo 15. Son And Daughter (reprise) 16. '39 17. You Take My Breath Away 18. The Prophet's Song 19. Stone Cold Crazy 20. Keep Yourself Alive 21. Liar 22. abc1 wrote: Wat possible remasterring could have been done if this recording sounds like its coming out of a fat mans asshole?Troll? Listen to the sample. There's obviously been a lot of work done to clear up the hiss/pops/distotion (weird water-sounding effect) without diminishing the quality of the recording. It may not seem like much but the person(s) who restored it must have put in a lot of work, and knew what they were doing. I really doubt anyone could make it sound much better (if any) than what it is. It's the best we will be able to hear out of the recording, wether you appreciate the work or not. My compliments go to Joshua. I'm pretty new to the whole audience tape thing, so I personally haven't heard an audience recording cleaned up so well! The sound hasn't been diminished (At least none that I can notice) and it sounds a lot cleaner than the original, I didn't know that was possible! |

Joshua has had several year's experience recording and mixing his own band's material, and last year completed a certified audio engineering course, so I would say it's more than fair to say he knows what he's doing. And I should add, it's very generous of him to take time out of his band and studio schedule to kindly help restore the audio tapes to a listenable state, so I think we should appreciate that much :-) PS. Don't feed the trolls ;-) |

thefallenqueen 01.04.2012 01:50 |
In many countries it's a custom to try and fool people on April 1st. To be honest, I really appreciate what is shared on QZ in most cases and I do not want to depreciate the work a few people are doing here for the so called beggars. I can’t thank enough for this, but: Call me a troll, call me a beggar, tell me not to download if I do not like it: I really cannot point out any changes in the reference sample every 10 seconds from raw to remastered material. What I point out is a huge downgrade of the sources that circulated so far. Sometimes things on QZ get really weird. A few days after someone’s life was threatened for sharing wav-files of Reaction songs that sound almost equal to former circulated mp3 sourced versions of the same songs in most ears people are overjoyed by a much inferior source of a well known concert. Funny thing. Anyway, have a happy nice April 1st my Queen friends. |

inu-liger 01.04.2012 03:54 |
Thefallenqueen, I think you've missed the point entirely. This release was about bringing out an ALTERNATIVE source from a historic show, irregardless if the sound quality is inferior OR superior! Most collectors surely appreciate that we made an effort with this, even though the remaster quality wasn't AS drastic an improvement as it was with our previous Earl's Court '77. We did what we could with a shitty sounding recording, and tried making it sound as listenable as possible through taking out the various persistent anomalies that actually induced headaches just listening to! We didn't want to take extreme measures that would have destroyed the integrity of the performance and colour the sound image drastically, Next time please exercise some deep consideration. And this whole thing contrary to your implications, by the way, was in NO way intended to be an April Fool's joke. Learn to read the timestamp on the topic's starting post. |
thefallenqueen 01.04.2012 04:41 |
Don't get me wrong as I don't want to offend anybody - I really do appreaciate your work. It's nice to have alternative sources without any doubt. But when listening to the AB sample I cannot hear any remastering at 10 20 30 ... seconds. In my ears this is a constantly bad sounding source no matter if it's worth having or not! It's the disproportionality in this forum that makes me a little wonder. B.t.w. there was some sarcasm between the lines you obviously didn't catch (but I'll type this up on my invisible typewriter) |
pittrek 01.04.2012 05:50 |

Adam Baboolal 08.04.2012 20:17 |
First off, it's nice to have an alternate view/account of the concert. I find that kind of thing interesting, perhaps even enjoyable! Now, onto the debate on sound... Well, it's bad. But, I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was from reading the release notes. They make it sound like (from reading the app list/treatment alone) it was going to be better than it turned out to be. Now, I was gonna post my own effort with a basic mp3 player EQ, but I see that Pittrek has almost the same kind of result I had! The biggest thing was to remove the horribly boxy sound. That makes it far easier to listen to. To be frank, Pittrek has made it sound better. Shame he hasn't done a kind of re-release thingy... hint hint :P But hey, nice effort made by all involved. Adam. |
inu-liger 08.04.2012 23:53 |
OK, I do realize some people may be disappointed if the description may have heightened expectations further than viewed as necessary. The thing is, I guess, these remasters are probably more appreciated when using high-end audio headphones or speakers, rather than iPod earbud-quality equipment. And seeing some people comment that they can't tell ANY difference in the A:B sample highly suggests that latter possibility coming into play. |
thefallenqueen 09.04.2012 01:04 |
Well I'm using Marantz/HamanKardon/Kenwood but it does not sound much better than my ipod. Thanks for your effort anyway. Could you please upload a complete song from the raw version for comparsion? Thanks in advance. |
Adam Baboolal 09.04.2012 20:32 |
Likewise, I'm using PMC TB2S+ speakers - a pretty high-end monitor speaker. As per thefallenqueen, I'd like to hear the raw version for comparison. I usually like to have the raw version, rather than a "remastered" effort anyway. Btw, the A/B sample is difficult for me to hear much of any difference at all. So worried about this, was I, that I grabbed my Denon AH-D2000 headphones to double-check it wasn't my room fooling my ears. However, it still sounded the same and gave the same result. |
Gregsynth 09.04.2012 20:51 |
There are slight improvements (although not drastic). There's not as much hiss, and the mid frequencies are slightly boosted. I'm using Sony MDR-V6 headphones! |
Gregsynth 09.04.2012 21:03 |
Here's the A/B comparison that Inuliger did: It starts off with the "raw" version (with nothing done), then at around 10 seconds, the hiss suddenly disappears. That is the "remastered" sound. It's nothing too drastic, but there is a difference! |
