Apparently there's a new release by Wardour, called "Wembley Stadium 1986". Collectors music reviews says: "Wardour have come up with a fascinating Queen release. Wembley Stadium 1986 (Wardour-096) is a 4CD set with superb audience tapes of the legendary July 11th and July 12 London shows on the A Kind Of Magic tour." I'm probably the only one on this forum but if this info is correct, I'd like to give those "superb audience recordings" a listen...:-) Anyone got any info about this? |
Hangman_96 13.03.2012 11:55 |
These "superb audience recordings" are the ones that have been available in the past years? If yes, I'd like to listen to them only if Wardour have improved the recordings' quality. But if these "superb audience recordings" are new sources...mmm. |

Wouldn't it be fun if they simply ripped sound from the official DVDs ? |

pittrek wrote: Wouldn't it be fun if they simply ripped sound from the official DVDs ?Yeah, that would be fun(ny), especially if they try to sell them afterwards as "superb" audience recordings:-) It was the my first tought when I read it... but then you start to hope for new sources of Queen-shows:-) |

Well previously I've been looking forward to "Play The Silent Night", because according to the review "Queen Play The Silent Night is a tremendously exciting release, covering Queen’s amazing concert for The Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea benefit on December 26th, 1976. It not only has the excellent audience tape on 2CDs, but also all the known footage on one DVD." But when I got it I realised that they actually bootlegged MY MERGE which I shared here for free. And the sound is definitely NOT coming from an "excellent audience tape" . So I wouldn't be surprised if Wardour did something similar with Wembley |

Why would anyone want to put money into bootleggers pockets for something that is commercially avaiable anyway. |
john bodega 13.03.2012 13:33 |
I'm assuming the only reason anyone would have for buying this crap is to hear the shows without overdubs. Since I'm pretty sure some/maybe all of the 2nd show is available in decent quality with no overdubs, I'm not sure why anyone would fork out for this. |

pittrek wrote: Wouldn't it be fun if they simply ripped sound from the official DVDs ? You really shouldn't be giving out company secrets. I hope somebody reports you to QPL because saying stuff like that is likely to shelve the release of this wonderful set and the next one... 1981 Montreal on 3 CDs |

Another one bites the dust from the first night sounds fab. Nice bass playing there! |

So are these new sources or the old sources ? For some strange reason I have problems downloading from sendspace |
Hangman_96 16.03.2012 14:24 |
They're a bit odd. They sound great and they're taped right near the stage. The old sources had much worse quality and were taped further. But I doubt about one thing. Maybe Wardour have spliced the old sources (improving their quality, of course) with audio ripped off the official videos (destroying its quality to make it sound more like an audience recording)? I can't confirm it properly. We need Bob over here. |
Harry_queenrecordings 16.03.2012 14:38 |
For me it sounds like two new sources and they sound better than the old sources. The second night is simply amazing compared with the old audience source. |
Hangman_96 16.03.2012 15:19 |
Yeah, I also think they're new sources. It's always great to get something new. So thanks a lot for sharing. |
Gaabiizz 16.03.2012 17:06 |
This release is very good, indeed anyone has the covers? |
on my way up 17.03.2012 03:50 |
I haven't heard anything from the first night but downloaded some of the second night. It's clearly audience recording but taped very close to the stage with minimal audience noise (even less as the show progresses, I have the impresion). There are some minor issues (bass distortion) but nothing that hinders a glorious listening experience. Wonderful to be able to hear Freddie without the overdubs, you can hear him being a musician then, trying to cope with the limitations of the day. I love it... |

Or is it not audience? |

Harry_queenrecordings 17.03.2012 04:41 |
I just compared Radio Ga Ga of the first night with the old audience source and it's the same old source.., but for this new release it probably seems that it comes from a much lower generation as it sounds MUCH clearer. So, only the second night is a totally new audience source. |

Let's hope this taper went to Manchester aswell..:-) |

I've listened to some of the first night, captures the atmosphere of the show much more... great stuff. Another one bites the dust indeed has a very lovely bass sound...:-) Great release! *Dreams away*: if someone only made such recordings of the Leiden concerts... |

I want to chime in on the conversation, but the download is very slow. Each track is taking about ten minutes, so it will take a while to complete it. Any chance someone could share/torrent the files here? |

Cooooool, thanks ! And from the same website, there's a pending Godfather Records boxed set of the Montreal, Boston and NY (first night) 82 audience tapes. link Probably nothing new musically speaking, but it's worth keeping an eye on. |

link Putting this up for a couple of days. This torrent, synced to the Wembley video. That'll give you guys time to download it and decide how you want to host it, because I don't really want the copyright burden. Use Keepvid or something. Go crazy go nuts. |

Zebonka, good work ! |

Had a bit of fun doing that, I decided to use my editing powers for good instead of evil for once. The audience tape didn't run at a constant speed - I had to speed up the first half, and gradually the speed evened out with the DVD until I had to start slowing the things down. I did it on a song by song basis and basically kept it in sync that way. It's interesting to hear what people would've heard in the crowd that day. The mixing seems a bit crude to be honest! Very much a case of 'here comes some lead guitar - sudden boost in volume - he's done now, kill the guitar'. Reverb and echo stuff is fun to listen to as well when it gets switched in. Notice that I didn't watermark this. Some people like to put their names on shit, well fuck 'em. As I said, I won't keep this up for too long so download it if you like it and share it as much as you want. |

Excellent observations, and great job on the video ! |
john bodega 20.03.2012 02:58 |
Cheers man! Another little curio - this audio having obviously been recorded close up to one half of the PA, you can hear panned delay stuff in the distance in front of the other side of the stadium. |
john bodega 20.03.2012 03:03 |
I think there's one or two occasions where I had to put in stuff from the DVD where the bootleg was missing sound. The start of Brian's solo is one bit. |
The Real Wizard 20.03.2012 12:10 |
Yup, that's pretty normal. Tapes had to flipped every 30/45 mins. Indeed, plenty of audience tapes were recorded off to one side, so you're not going to hear all of the stereo delay. One of the audience tapes from Nagoya 79 was recorded on the delay side, so Brighton Rock sounds really unique. |

I've been listening to CD1 of this. Freddie's vocals and John's bass come over really well. Brian's guitar sounds a bit odd, not really sure what's up with that. I've been really appreciating John's bass playing in this recording, since it's so clear and easy to pick it out of the mix. It's so nimble, he's so fast and light between the notes. John's playing here is a revelation compared to the later bassists from Q+PR, The Cross and Brian May Band I've been listening to a fair bit of recently. Sigh, we miss you John. |
Doga 27.03.2012 08:16 |
Yeah! John Deacon music skills are great, as a music player is over the top, but is a shy man and don't want the focus over him, so is easy forget how brilliant he is. And as composer, well, great tunes come off his head, shame the new Queen don't/won't play more of his songs. |
