This was posted on QueenOnline's news page today link "To anyone out there with regards to Knebworth... It would be great to have an idea on the songs you would most like to hear us play. Roger and Brian" There's an email address to send suggestions to. I thought maybe if we all decide on one song we want to hear the most (one that they wouldn't play anyway, obviously), and we all suggest that one song, there might be a chance they'd play it. Thoughts? |
The Real Wizard 05.03.2012 23:15 |
Right on. Great to see them open to this kind of thing. Myself, I'd say anything from the first eight records. The more the merrier. Tunes that they haven't done in years, like It's Late and Spread Your Wings. If Bri is going to sing, it'd be nice to see him bring back Sail Away Sweet Sister. He did it a few times in 1998. But realistically, the show will be mostly hits, as the general public doesn't know much beyond the Greatest Hits collections. Nobody should be surprised at that. |
Dan C. 06.03.2012 00:42 |
I too would very much like to hear "Sail Away Sweet Sister" come out of retirement. It's one of my personal favorite 'album' tracks. Such a wonderful song! Though it's probably nowhere near the realm of possibility, I would love to hear Roger do a version of "Calling All Girls" or something else of his Freddie sang from that era. |
The Real Wizard 06.03.2012 01:18 |
Damn, that would be cool. |
cmsdrums 06.03.2012 01:26 |
They're taking the piss aren't they?? For years there was a "get in touch and tell us what releases you'd like to see" note on QOL which served no purpose at all. For the last couple of years we've had their 'official' representatives on here telling us openly that releases are NOT for the fans but aimed squarely at the general public and that's why so many greatest hits and the usual same stuff over and over. They have done two extensive tours to their own crowds with Paul Rodgers and, with the exception of the odd gem, have stuck to the big hits, so do we really think that a partly non-queen fan festival crowd are going to be treated to Long Away, It's Late, If You Can't Beat Them etc....?? |
john bodega 06.03.2012 01:27 |
I reckon anything from Innuendo. Or even Innuendo itself. No point moving in half measures. Sheer Heart Attack would be cool as well. Might kill Roger, but it'd be cool to hear. |

tomchristie22 06.03.2012 02:43 |
Even if they don't take it into account at all, it's still worth sending suggestions if there's a chance they will. This is what I sent, ended up writing more than I originally intended... - Tenement Funster or Modern Times Rock And Roll with Roger vocals - It's Late - Spread Your Wings - Sail Away Sweet Sister or Long Away with Brian vocals - Something heavy from QII, Ogre Battle or Father To Son perhaps - Death On Two Legs or Flick Of The Wrist - Save Me - not very obscure but hasn't been played since 1982 (I think) |

C'mon, many Queenzoners engage in wishful setlists all the time, just for fun. Now they were asked by Brian and Roger themselves, so let them do it! :) We all know they can't choose to play Queen II in its entirety, but they might be able to squeeze a couple of gems, so that they can also have fun. What about Stone Cold Crazy with Rufus Taylor on drums, for medical reasons? :) Cheers, Ogre- |

Honestly? It's nice that Bri and Rog are acknowledging the fans, but I'm kinda losing faith. Besides, if they take the real fans' requests on board, no-one will know the tracks. Let me list the tracks the general public know: DMSN, DMSN, DMSN, IWBTF (maybe), WWRY, WATC, AOBTD (m-a-y-b-e), CLTCL (Heaven hopes they do) and DMSN. I'm usually not this cynical, and I don't hate Don't Stop Me Now per se... it's just that Queen HAVE other songs, you know. But whenever you ask someone to name a Queen track, it's the first one anyone names. |

Don't mean to be too cynical but I'd only note that I don't think they petitioned fans for ideas for the Rodgers fronted tours. And no, I don't think it's because Lambert is so wildly versatile that their bounty overfloweth with confusing choice. It's more of the Talenthouse, Queen Extravaganza, 'Have You Seen WWRY Hundreds of Times? Let Us Know!' etc. get-fans-involved mechanisms that boil down to marketing and not much else. It really ramped up with the switch to Universal, and I recall Brian noting the company's "all kinds of new ideas". I think this would be one of them, or the offspring of one of them. No harm in it of course but it does add to the manufactured feel of the whole thing. |
Bad Seed 06.03.2012 12:56 |
I think people need to remember that Sonisphere is a Metal/Hard Rock festival, the only obscure songs played will be the heavier ones IMO. This is what I asked for, all of them very realistic. KYA Ogre Battle SSOR Brighton Rock Now I'm Here Stone Cold Crazy (that's a no brainer because of the Metallica cover) DOTL Prophets Song (Adam doing the vocal delay would work) SHA LMEY The Hero (In it's original key) Put Out The Fire Tear It Up Gimme The Prize Prince's Breakthru WIAWI Innuendo Headlong |

I think CMS drums has pretty much covered my response, although sadly it's painfull clear from past experience that they'll happily play 'obscurities' to non-Queen fans, but we get the usual shit. |

tomchristie22 06.03.2012 22:50 |
Send suggestions to them, not in this thread :P Even if there's only a slim chance that they'll play anything we suggest, it's still worth the few seconds it takes to send them in rather than being overly cynical about it. I mean, a slim chance is a lot better than nothing at all. |

What a generous idea, to solicit suggestions from crazy people for songs to sprinkle into this major show! Love it! Well, why not? Go for broke! Putting aside most of the traditional live standards, I think it would really be a thrill to hear some of the lesser-performed ones... list is not a "setlist", just songs I'd love to hear new live versions of. Liar Son And Daughter Ogre Battle March Of The Black Queen Father To Son Stone Cold Crazy Lily Of The Valley The Prophet’s Song Seaside Rendezvous Long Away White Man It’s Late Fight From The Inside Let Me Entertain You Don’t Stop Me Now Save Me Let’s Get Crazy (from Roger’s Fun In Space) Action This Day Dancer Innuendo Headlong Hitman Bijou It’s A Beautiful Day A Winter’s Tale C-Lebrity Surf’s Up… School’s Out Dangerland (from Kerry Ellis’s CD) Well, that's what I emailed to them, anyway. Who knows? :D |
Holly2003 07.03.2012 05:33 |
This is clearly about marketing and publicity. However, I suppose there is a slight chance that Lamber might persuade Brian and Roger to do something interesting. The Foo Fighters convinced Brian to play Sleeping on the Sidewalk, for example. However, I suspect this will be a "greatest hits" concert. In the off chance this is serious I'll bet Brian has already emailed the website 2000 times asking for We Will Rock You to be played :) |
deleted user 07.03.2012 11:15 |
Actually, this is really just marketing. Brian mentioned in the press release that he received terrific response from Queen fans about the Adam Lambert show. Which we all (at least all genuine Queen fans) know just cannot be true! This request thing is just another piece of publicity crap. No genuine Queen fan wants Adam Lambert; neither do we want the greatest hits. Just Brian and Roger singing will do us just fine. Especially from Queen and QueenII. |

Yeah I agree, I think they're getting nervous at the backlash of comments on once again having Lambert fronting them and they're trying to feel out the fans. As much as I hate to say this, I hope the true Queen fans really show their dissatisfaction at this performance, maybe they'll decide to never repeat this again. |
