It has always been said that the only Queen concerts properly filmed were the Budapest, Montreal and Rainbow shows. But recently Gary Taylor confirmed that the November Rainbow Footage existed on 2" Videotape, and the released footage certainly has the "look" of videotape.
However, the March Rainbow footage may well originate from film. The majority of the available footage is poor quality and looks as if is many tape generations away from the original. Some good quality footage appears in the "When Freddie Met Kenny" documentary, in an online video for BBC's "Seven Ages Of Rock" and a significant portion of Son & Daughter from a Swedish TV broadcast.
The Dutch footage certainly has noticeable film grain, and I can see some in the BBC footage also. So does anyone know if this is the case, and it was the March Rainbow show that was properly filmed all along?

A very good point of discussion. You certainly may be right on this one.
We all would like to know how much footage from the March show exists, and if it has stood the test of time.
The Swedish TV broadcast is sourced 100% from film, but it doesn't mean it was originally shot on film. And I think it was confirmed from numerous sources that the November footage was shot on video
The November footage (like the VHS in my Box Of Tricks boxset) was shot 100% interlaced 625 line PAL video beyond doubt. I guess the March footage could have been telecined like old Doctor Whos. i.e. Film camera pointed at TV screen and filmed.

Yes. For example this photo from Bob site. link
It's typical TV camera (I suppose Norelco PC-70 or PC-72)
BTW Who recorded the March show? Also Trilion?

Wasn't the march gig recorded by BBC?? I'm always though so...
maybe the november gig was shot on 2" video tape and later stored (as pittrek said) on 16 mm or 35 mm for cinemas and that's why Brian tough they had recorded it on film...
Otherwise i'd wish they had recorded ALL Rainbow March... the gig is far better than the november one, the audio sounds GREAT even in bootlegs and it would be the only one Queen II tour gig properly recorded...
at least i think they have the mulitracks of the whole gig (or they only have the multitrack of the songs we have?)

That sounds like the answer.
