yeah i love the bridge :"oh you know i never could forsee the future years..." lighthearted to rough anyways, i remember hearing SLEEPING ON THE SIDEWALK was done at the Walk Of Fame Ceremony "WRITTEN IN THE STARS" aftershow.. (that i couldn't attend due to age.... BASTARDS!!) but was it ever played with the original band?? what were the dates? |
QueenIsAwesome-Fan 11.02.2012 00:03 |
I'd've loved Freddie to've sung: The Show Must Go, Innuendo, I Want It All, I'm Going Slightly Mad, Headlong, The Hitman, Scandal, The Full Version of March Of The Black Queen, and Breakthru. There may be some more, but these are the ones I can think of at the moment. |

Yes, we all wish Freddie could sing live, but he couldn't. He was purely a studio performer, the live performances were just a succession of screams in random pitch, at a random order. He tried to make up for his lack of skill by strutting around and using a microphone stand as a phallic symbol. Until he got seriously ill with mad cow's disease, bandmates Roger, Juan and Bryant seriously thought of replacing him with a talented live singer like Paul Roget's or Giorgos Mychael. |
tomchristie22 11.02.2012 05:45 |
I don't know the date, but I've definitely read that it was played once on the News Of The World Tour. At least I think it was... I'll check. Found it on the marvellous QueenConcerts.com. It was 11/11/1977, Civic Centre Portland. It's unknown whether Freddie or Brian sang lead vocals on it, but it's likely that it was Fred, Brian never sang lead in the band's original one so I don't see why he'd make one exception. An attendee also claims that it was the first show where the crowd sang along to Love Of My Life, which is pretty significant if true. |
javigpalao 15.02.2012 12:53 |
Any song not played live!!! But if have to choose: - Let me live - Headlong - Too much love will kill you - Sleeping on the sidewalk - Who needs you - Breakthru - I want it all - One year of love - Dead on time <------ This would be amazing with Roger & Brian doing his best!! |
brENsKi 15.02.2012 15:47 |
btw - it's "could have sung live" or "could've sung live" and NOT "could of sung live" |
Blackthorne 15.02.2012 21:04 |

tomchristie22 16.02.2012 05:18 |
Nevermore, Long Away, Some Day One Day, Fairy Feller's Master Stroke (possibly played impromptu once but meh), All Dead, Dead On Time, Las Palabras De Amor... And all the good songs from after they stopped touring, because at that point it becomes too many for me to be bothered listing. So many now that I think of it... In those I mentioned which Brian sang on the album versions, I wouldn't mind if Freddie sang instead, since Brian didn't sing lead live in Queen's original run anyway. Not the same thing, but I'd die happy if a recording of them playing The Night Comes Down & Jesus (in other words pre-1973) showed up in my lifetime... |
Queen4ever13 16.02.2012 09:35 |
I know, their early concerts even though the quality is a bit poor are gems. Look then up on i offer. They have all the early stuff. To see them so young and in top form singing their early hits are amazing especically since they dropped them in later concerts. I would have loved to see Freddie sing The Show Must Go On. The ironic thing is I wonder if they would have come up with that song if he wasn't ill. |
varifocals 16.02.2012 14:13 |
'..... could OF sung?' I understand Freddie was a well educated chap and so would have been dismayed at such bad grammar. Regards |

I know you aren't fond of the song in a live environment (you said that Freddie always shouted/barked/belted the song live), but he pulls it off well on this version! This is probably the best live version Freddie has done! |

waunakonor 21.02.2012 21:31 |
Someone said One Year of Love, and a couple people said Gimme the Prize. I don't think those would have been very interesting live. The only thing interesting about OYoL is the vocals, and Freddie would not have sung them live like they are in the studio. Gimme the Prize relies more on guitars than on Freddie to power the song (again, Freddie would not have hit those high notes live) so although it would have been interesting hearing how Brian handles it live, Freddie's performance wouldn't have been that interesting. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think Brian should have incorporated some of the elements from Gimme the Prize in his big guitar solos on the Magic tour. |

Freddie, in fact, incorporated 'Yeah' into many of his performances, whether it be impromptus or entirely different songs. |
