Ok the recent post has pictures off freddie in his final days. But i remember (or not) that i was dj at a party that saturday before he died, and heard that he went on the news and confirmed he was dieing...I think it was the 9 o clock news on ITV in uk. Is this true and is there footage or was it just a press release read out???
I remember it as if it was yesterday...just a press release the day before he died, there's no way be would have been able to read out a statement, surely that must be obvious to you?
Freddie Mercury on the 23rd of November,through Roxy Meades (Queen's publicist) release a written statement stating:
"Following enormous conjecture in the press, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have Aids. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date in order to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has now come for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth, and I hope everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease"
Further suggestion for "kevin": maybe google things a bit more often, or read a book or 2 about Queen/Freddie Mercury ???!!!
Thanks for your comments...I was 18 when fredie died and like most teenages on a saturday night i was out partying. Lol rumours around the time said it was on the news that night i found out monday morning when i went to work as they all kept the radio off in work as they knew how much i loved queen, I went into my car on dinner break hear forever being played on radio and then the sad news. I left work had 3 days off and remeber watching the BBC1 doc with these are the days of our lives video. Sad times But if u want to suggestion shit thats fine...
I remember going to work the next morning and Simon Bates dedicated his whole show to playing Queen songs he even suspended Our Tune for the day thats how momentous it was!

my life was a bit of a blur at the time - see below...i remember the "Brits appearance" and saying to my wife "he doesn't look well, looks like cancer"
at that time i was daily commuting to london from the midlands. so most of my weekends involved sleeping - and definitely in bed very early.
so not only did i miss the press release but just about everything else about it.
i set off for london on the monday morning and the Radio 1 Breakfast show played about ten queen songs in a row...no dj voiceover (think it was Chris Evans) then about 6:30am the news announced it....i pulled over on the M40, couldn't believe what i was hearing...stunned
OMG IS Freddie dead?? when omg how did it happen? tell me this is some sort of sick joke? im mean i take a few tabs at halloween 1991 then wake up and now yous are telling me fred is dead. (sobs really hard) if its true im gonna take a few more tabs :(
It is said that he gave up takin gmeds, other than pain killers in september 1991. Someone said that had he held on for another 12 months that he may have been saved.
Someone might have said that if he had held on another 12 months he would have been fine, but that is more of a great "if only" story, than reality.
If we can believe Jim, in 1987 he was diagnosed with AIDS, or at the very least had very advanced HIV. It's amazing that he held on for another 4+ years, with AIDS, when most people without modern treatment would last about a year, but that was probably because he was holed up in his house. His immune system was probably completely destroyed by that point, and he had sustained major organ damage to his lungs, heart, liver, eyes, brain.
The cocktail drugs stop HIV from being able to replicate in your body, they don't repair the damage brought on by infections you've already sustained. If the rumors were true that he already was going blind, had dementia, and was covered in KS, he was more than likely beyond medical help.
That doesn't sound as great as "if he had only hung on for 12 more months, we'd still have him today, but it's more likely the case.

Good answer. Freddie could have been saved only if he had HIV in 1991, not full blown AIDS. Also, I don't know where did the original poster hear he gave up medication in September? I thought it was late October? Sad to say it, but his situation was hopeless anyway:(
