Hang On In There wrote: "Would love to hear the track named 'John voc'" LOL! "Only one song has been properly released" Sweet Lady and an early version of You Take My Breath Away? With "only one song" he meant You Take My Breath Away. Bits of other songs have been shown in different documentaries. Such songs as Bohemian Rhapsody (rock part), Freddie welcoming the audience, Ogre Battle, Sweet Lady, Flick Of The Wrist, '39, The Prophet's Song, and Keep Yourself Alive. |
Hang On In There 07.02.2012 06:44 |
but isn't Sweet Lady in full as an extra on the NATO DVD? I didn't think it was that good actually - and they didn't play the song much I think |
The Real Wizard 07.02.2012 11:40 |
They actually played it at just about every show from Nov 75 to June 77. Indeed, it's on the ANATO DVD, but the sound quality isn't nearly as good as it could've been, judging by how good You Take My Breath Away sounded on the ADATR deluxe edition. It sounds like it was the video soundtrack instead of the actual multi-track masters. |

Sweet Lady... what a strange one. It has so much contrast. The guitar riffs are great, and melody of the verse and the bridge is really great. But the chorus is one of the most horrible bits of queen history. |

I agree with Lostman, i don't want to talk like a crazy fan, i am usually very critic with art, i this case, with music, but i love every bit of the history of Queen (they could film more gigs, anyway), they only band that give me the same reaction is Muse. From other bands i like some songs but hate others, or simple i ignore them. But every song of Queen is enjoyable in some aspect. (At least till the Cosmos Rock, but thanks to that album i saw live Brian & Roger) |

pittrek wrote: A Kind Of Magic is a bad albumThere are too many good songs for it to be a bad album - 4 or 5 strong tracks for sure. But the filler is awful, and it doesn't flow at all. And if you look at the Magic tour setlist, it's clear that they weren't pushing a new record. The Miracle is a terrible album with 4 good songsNah, I think you're being too harsh. All the Queen trademarks are there - great arrangements, great songwriting, experimentation with new sounds, and a bit of genre-crossing. I don't think there's a single bad track on it, but it's not nearly as consistent as Innuendo. I don't get why some Queen fans don't like Party, but they'll like Staying Power or Mustapha. |
The Real Wizard 08.02.2012 11:30 |
At the end of the day, these are the great Queen records: Queen II SHA ANATO ADATR The Game Innuendo These are the ones that offered something unique for the average fan of music to be aware of. Everything else is in second place or worse. |
mooghead 08.02.2012 11:37 |
" I don't think there's a single bad track on it, but it's not nearly as consistent as Innuendo." Sorry but Hitman, Delilah, All Gods People, Slighlty Mad? Innuendo is inconsistency personified |
Kamenliter 08.02.2012 11:40 |
Of course, it's all just a matter of opinion...I love Queen 1 a lot more than Innuendo, but I also love Innuendo..they're just different. Any early Freddie vocals should be regarded as precious, imho. I surely wouldn't say Hot Space or AKOM are bad albums..I truly don't understand those feelings..but hey, to each his own. When you can have two tracks as different from each other as 'One Year of Love' and 'Princes of The Universe' on the same album, you've got something special going on. (even with the 'bring on the girls!' Freddie bit). |
The Real Wizard 08.02.2012 11:46 |
Delilah is the one weak track. Brian's cat sounds offer a bit of saving grace. But the rest fit the record perfectly. To each their own, of course. I think it flows perfectly well. The fact that it was a collaborative effort clearly shows. |
pittrek 08.02.2012 13:44 |
The only good thing about "Delilah" is Brian's "meow". The rest of the record would be the PERFECT album if it had some bass and heavier drums. Don't get me wrong, I love the album, but it sounds like recorded in a tin can or something, very strange thin "metallic" sound - I have no idea how to describe it properly but I'm sure many of you know what I mean |
mooghead 08.02.2012 14:36 |
Of course its all opinion, all the tracks I named before from Innuendo are so weak they shouldn't even have been there... Apart from The Show Must Go On, Innuendo is very ordinary. People rave about the title track but Queen just tried to make Bo Rhap part 2 and failed. (Or I guess if they wanted a number 1 single from a new album they won... but I just cannot remember the last time I heard it on the radio.. or saw it on a compilation.. or an article about it in a magazine.. or in a top 10 list.. etc..etc..) |

I fucking adore this song! You'll never find anything bad in Queen's history, except The Cosmos Fucks album. I guess your favourite Queen era should be the 70's, shouldn't it? 1. Hot Space. Back then the Hot Space tour used to be in the end of the list of my favourite Queen tours (I mean all the tours from 1973 to 1986). I didn't enjoy watching Milton Keynes 82. But now I've completely changed my opinion. It's one of my favourite tours. Looking at the whole album itself, all I can say is that it's a great album. Of course, there are some albums that I like more but each album is awesome in its own way, and Hot Space is not an exception. 2. The Works. It's a great album as well. It has only 9 tracks and I love each of them. Songs written and performed in different ways. This is what makes this album unique. Radio Ga Ga, It's A Hard Life, I Want To Break Free and Hammer To Fall - they are the best from the album, but the songs left out of the above list are also amazing. Man On The Prowl always reminds me of Crazy Little Thing Called Love. 3. A Kind Of Magic. This is my favourite Queen album. It also has only 9 tracks, and all of them are awesome! I adore each song from the album. I'd never dare say it's a bad album. This album is just perfect. - One Vision is an awesome strong, powerful track; - One Year Of Love is such a beautiful love song; - Friends Will Be Friends is an awesome friend song (I always can't choose between FWBF and You're My Best Friend); - Who Wants To Live Forever is one of the most amazingest songs I've ever heard!!! Nothing else I can add here; - Princes Of The Universe is a great powerful track by Freddie. The songs I've left behind are also great but I've chosen to show the best things of the album. 4. The Miracle. I do love this album but when I listen to it, it starts to make me feel a bit upset, bearing in my mind Freddie's health and that there wouldn't be any more live tours. It does have great rock tracks, as well as pop ones. I Want It All is a great example of a great rock track. As Bob said above, I also don't get why some fans don't like Party (and Khashoggi's Ship as well). They are two great tracks, and there's nothing not to like in them. 5. The Cosmos Rocks (as I call it The Cosmos Fucks). I don't like it. That's all I can say. Having said that, it's just my personal opinion. Everybody may be disagreed with me. But here are just the thoughts of a typical Queen fan. |

I agree with MERQRY, all you'd need to add to that list is the debut album. |

mooghead wrote: I just cannot remember the last time I heard it on the radio.. or saw it on a compilation.. or an article about it in a magazine.. or in a top 10 list.. etc..etc..)To be fair, remember you're talking about the band that created Bohemian Rhapsody. Pop songs will be recognized here and there, but any attempt at coming close to BoRhap again is bound to end up in second place in just about everyone's eyes. |
The Real Wizard 08.02.2012 23:25 |
MERQRY wrote: I would add "Queen" album... maybe i like it for personal reasons... but is wonderfulI agree, it is. But try to separate yourself from Queen fandom for a moment, and look at the albums in the grand scheme of things. Each band has 2 or 3 albums that tell the majority of the story, i.e. their contribution to the evolution of music. It doesn't mean they didn't create any more great records, but every artist does have their creative peak. For the Beatles I'd pick Revolver and Abbey Road. For Yes it'd be Fragile and Close To The Edge. Zeppelin I and IV. Pink Floyd - Dark Side and Wish You Were Here. Genesis - Selling England and Lamb. For Queen it's Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera. I see Queen's first two albums as groundwork - ideas that would be developed and perfected on SHA and ANATO. |
Hang On In There 15.02.2012 06:42 |
Innuendo is very ordinary. People rave about the title track but Queen just tried to make Bo Rhap part 2 and failed. gotta disagree here - I've been listening to it a lot recently and I think it's an amazing song - heard best in it's Explosive Version. The lyrics seem to be really personal, Freddie seems to be singing about his legacy, although he I think he always said he didn't care about what people thought - anyway - a really great song seemeingly underated. |
tomchristie22 16.02.2012 05:54 |
Roger wrote the lyrics to Innuendo, mind you. But I still see where you're coming from. A lot of them are direct references to Led Zeppelin (Kashmir and Thank You, notably) |

One of the reasons we love them is their range of different styles, and how they changed from album to album. HS, The Works, Flash, Miracle, Magic... they all contain very strong tracks and are just as imprortant to any other album apart from ANATO and QI, which both are vital in the bands history. |
