Adam Lambert has confirmed he is set to join Queen as the band's new frontman for a tour this summer (12). The star was joined by original group members Brian May and Roger Taylor during his finale performance on 2009's American Idol, and the trio teamed up once more at the Mtv European Music Awards in November (11). The collaborations led to speculation that Lambert would be stepping in to take the place of late singer Freddie Mercury in an upcoming trek, and Taylor fuelled the reports, saying in December (11), "He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice... We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates." Lambert has now announced he will be touring with May and Taylor throughout 2012 - including dates at Knebworth in England, where Queen played their final gig with Mercury in 1986, before his death in 1991. He tells Britain's Daily Star, "The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f**king great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of." However, Lambert insists he doesn't intend to take Mercury's place: "After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: ‘You can’t replace Freddie Mercury.’ But I already knew that. "There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible. The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honour and one I’m in no way going to shirk... Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen." source: link |

First thoughts 1] Is this a joke ! 2]It might be more popular in USA given Adam L's appeal over there 3]Nobody gives a fuck bout or heard of Lambert in UK 4]Knebworth is a huge place to sell for a band who ain't had a hit single or album in years.6]If Deacy said no to Robbie Williams why would he give his blessing to Lambert? 7]Go back to first thought ! |

Well, okay, I've given up pondering over their 'artistic choices' a long time ago, so I'll only say that it might be interesting to see them at Knebworth, I hope he'll eventually learn to sing these songs properly and he suits better as a Queen singer anyway (compared to his immediate predecessor, Mr Paul Rodgers). |

Nooooooooo! Sorry Brian and Roger, it is time to retire! Queen is just 4 members - Freddie, Brian, Roger and John. That is it! Paul and Ringo cannot team up with a bunch of other people and call themselves the Beatles. Sorry, but no genuine Queen fan will ever accept Brian and Roger with Adam and other instrumentalists and a bunch of backup singers as Queen. There is no Queen without Freddie and John. My teenage sons saw the performance of Adam with 'Queen', and were completely unimpressed. Then I showed them the Queen concert at the Rainbow in 1974, and they totally understood why I love Queen. |

As happy as I am to hear that Bri and Rog will be on the road again, I'm not particularly fond of Lambert. But ... this is how they keep themselves relevant. They want to be remembered 20 years from now, and this is the kind of thing you do to get the next generation to hear your music. I expect a setlist with 95% hits, but no record or anything else. Just a single tour. They're getting old so let them have their fun and make their money. This makes the whole Paul Rodgers thing look not so bad now, eh naysayers? At least Rodgers was a legend who had every right to form a supergroup, and wasn't trying to impersonate Mercury. He sang every note with class and reverence. I expect nothing of the kind from Lambert. |

I keep checking the Queen official site and Brian's site for any comment or confirmation and the silence at those sites is deafening. Not a word, not a word, not a word. Is this a case of the "tail wagging the dog?" If it does turn out to be true – the first lesson for Adam is to learn how something is properly announced. Weird. |

Who cares? Brian and Roger don't. They've become eccentric old men who don't understand the serious music world sees them as a joke, milking what they can out of the catalogue. They and Jim Beach see themselves as protectors of the legacy and keeping the memory of Queen alive. Given the fact that Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley are all but forgotten, maybe they've got it right by being shameless salesmen, willing to peddle their goods with the flavour of the day to keep the name alive with a new generation of fans. IMHO, good business move, but it seriously devalues the greatness of their music and what they stood for. |

Who knows guys it could all be a load of crap!! |
YourValentine 04.02.2012 02:23 |
Luckily, Mr. Lambert has denied the "rumours". Funny how the Daily Star can mix up the EMAs with Knebworth :-) There has rarely been such a universal condemnation of a new Queen business idea than this alleged tour with AL. I cannot even imagine that Brian and Roger really considered to tour with such a second rate artist. Funny how he never wanted to be teamed up with Brian and Roger when he was the hot stuff of the hour in the USA but now that his glorious days are already over he uses Queen as a vehicle to come back into public focus. |

"This makes the whole Paul Rodgers thing look not so bad now" I was always 50/50 on that collaboration. Or maybe 70/30. Point being, I couldn't stand his blues crooning. The man sounds like a broken saxophone, and his 'ooo' sounds were so retarded. (ie. 'I wander threuuuu the niiight'). Having said that, when he really gave a song a good kicking (some performances of Tie Your Mother Down), then it was great. And despite what some people say, there were some good moments on the album. On the whole though, I don't miss PR. They didn't visit Australia so it's not like I really benefited from the whole mess, other than that I got to see some awful shots of a sweaty old man in leather pants. |

This is it. Paul Rodgers was kind of legitimate because Queen and Bad Company etc. are both from 60/70's and all QPR members are about the same age. Besides, Paul Rodgers is/was a real legend himself. It didn't work on every live song and the album was not that great, but they did a proper job live. Adam Lambert, i just can't see it. Why do they want to join with this kids idol. It just doesn't match and if they do, we'll that's it for me then. No more Queen + concerts for me please. It's a sell-out and I rather see them team up with Rodgers again and do a 'classic rock' tour with (70's)Queen and PR songs plus some great other classic rock songs (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, AC/DC etc.). |

The Real Wizard 04.02.2012 15:15 |
They'd need a bass player at least... maybe a keyboardist and second guitar. I personally think they should give up the arena/stadium thing and do a tour of theatre gigs, just as themselves - "Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen." They won't make nearly as much money, but they'll get the fulfillment of playing the more obscure material for 2,000 people a night. It's silly for anyone to suggest they should retire. They can play if they want to, but without Mercury they need to take a humble step back. The Paul Rodgers thing was great, and they can always do pop-related collaborations to keep themselves in the next generation's consciousness, but I think a tour of smaller venues for their older fans would be very appropriate. |

I wholeheartedly agree that, crazy as it seems, Queen would get more popular if they actually thought about music instead of sales. Look how squirrelly people around here were while awaiting the Long Away stems. Look how much joy people got from Taylor Hawkins coaxing Brian and Roger onstage to perform Long Away. The comments were fantastic. There are tons of gems like Long Away in the catalogue that they could handle. The world has heard WWRY and TYMD more than enough. Get out, do a small venue tour and I bet the sales (and critical praise which would drive up sales) would be as great or greater than anything they do that is hits driven. |

It's Brian and Roger live! This is absolutely untrue. Like many other people I was enthusiastic about the QPR project from the start. I do not understand how someone can compare Adam L with Paul Rodgers at all. Paul Rodgers has been a first class singer since the 1960s, he has written legendary songs and he fronted three bands. You must not like PR but to put him in the same category as Adam Lambert is a joke. AL is just one of these singers who have some vocal power and can scream like hell but where is his original artistic ability? Some make up and some gay antics do not make a Freddie Mercury. Perhaps he can grow and become a first rate artist but I have my doubts seeing how he seems to believe kissing a guy on stage is a carreer booster (which apparently backfired completely in the USA). The QPR project was a chance to see Brian and Roger on a tour - even two tours and while I understand how many people did not like PR as a front singer, he is a just a great singer in his own rights never even trying to be like Freddie Mercury. The Cosmos Rocks was nothing like a vintage Queen album but it was a nice album and it was NEW. I cannot believe that Roger and Brian want to tour their 20 year old catalogue over and again with Adam Lambert fronting them. For me it would be a step behind QPR and i would not like to see it. |

And bang, the next generation is on youtube looking up Queen songs. This is why Brian does things like this. If McCartney and Ringo don't do things like this, they're perfectly entitled. Everyone's got their own way of trying to stay relevant... or not. But to compare anyone to the Beatles simply isn't fair. No, but he's not going out with Ringo Starr, Kelly Clarkson and Cee Lo Green and presenting himself as The Beatles. The Beatles and Zep have handled their post-band eras infinitely more dignified than Queen has, Queen has probably sold more than Zep (and despite Brian's assertations about how The Beatles have handled their catalogue they still blew up all sales records when the catalogue launched on iTunes so they can do sales without this type of stuff) and while I am not a huge Zep or Beatles fan, I'd be embarrassed if they trotted out the latest reality goofball and played as Zep or The Beatles. Brian and Roger obviously have no issues with it so more power to them. |

I think this is interesting. Queen always did interesting, relevant, different things . . . the unexpected. The same band that gave us Tie Your Mother Down gave us BoRap and Hot Space disco. Being from the US, Lambert may be known, but really not what I would call popular. Queen died when Freddie left us, but "Queen plus" remains. It is what it is. Nothing more . . . and the Show Must Go On. So, let's wait and see what the trio produces. It won't be classic Queen . . . which is impossible, but it will be music by 2 talented masters of the craft and . . . well, Mr. Lambert. It is what it is. I thought Paul Rogers' run was interesting . . . fun. There were a few new songs and renditions of classic Queen tunes that I enjoyed . . . knowing it wasn't Queen, but something different. And in the Queen tradtion, the boys always took chances and never stayed still or stagnant. So be it . . . Brian and Roger are not dead! Just because it isn't Queen with Freddie and John . . . it doesn't have to be predetermined bad! |

listen here Adam Lambert Queens music will stay alive it doesnt need twats like you spoiling great Queen classics like paul rodgers did. i for one wont be going to the concerts. Queen are not Queen no more, no wonder john Deacon got out when he did, he knew it wouldnt be the same group without Fred. brian and roger take things to a ridiculous level now. The monachy is broken now! call it a day boys. Freddie forever. Gerald Gillies Hartlepool uk |
