Singer Adam Lambert says he's not taking over as the frontman for Queen, but adds “there's more stuff coming up this year.” During an interview last week on Alice Radio's Sarah & Vinnie, Lambert dismissed rumors that he was preparing to take over as the frontman for the British rock band Queen, which currently includes Roger Taylor and Brian May. Taylor and May formed the band Smile, which Freddie Mercury altered to Queen when he joined. Mercury died in 1991 of complications due to AIDS. “That was a rumor as far as taking over, touring with them,” Lambert said. “But I got to perform with them on the European Music Awards – it was amazing – and I think there's going to be some more stuff coming up this year. That's all I can say for right now. But the goal is to try to like do my thing and maybe do a little of their thing.” When asked if he had brought his boyfriend Sauli Koskinen to the San Diego studios, Lambert, whose second studio album Trespassing will be released on March 20, answered that Koskinen was back home in Los Angeles. “This is a two-day trip,” he said. “We don't need to hold hands all the way.” (Listen to the entire interview at Radio Alice.) link |

Paul Rodgrers anyday. I know everyone wasnt too happy when Queen(Roger Taylor and Brian May) toured and record with him but at least hes his own man, has his own legacy, sings in turn and doesnt over do it. But thats just me! |

Bring back Paul Rodgers - he's fantastic singer, writer and legend! And he did very good work. No C-lebrity such as this winner of American Idol!!! |

Funny how the best songs of the Q+PR tours were when Paul was taking his coffee backstage. Seriously, I've been watching a lot of those videos, and the best stuff is when he's not even there. Also, fuck off Adam Lambert. |

For all who were pretty sure they couldn't be bothered going to 'Radio Alice' for this, a YouTube version to confirm that instinct. I've heard at least three or four (and I'm not even looking really, so there's probably dozens) US interviews where the radio personalities yammer on about how Lambert should be in Queen and how this is what Brian May desperately wants. I mean it's delusional. These people obviously know nothing remotely substantial about the band, or Freddie, or anything of historical relevance. Sad. |

Whenever it was about Paul Rodgers singing his own material, it actually sounded like a working combination. Neither Roger & Brian nor Adam Lambert have the talent to fill Freddie's vocal parts, and it doesn't really matter which of them takes a stab at it. It still sounds like nothing more than a mediocre karaoke effort. Now, it would be interesting to hear Roger & Brian & Adam write a new song together... Not necessarily enjoyable, but infinitely more interesting than yet another karaoke version of WWRY. |

Queen was the world's best backing band for Paul Rodgers - and he has a lot of great songs in his back catalogue. Doing Fred songs though... not so much. Still... much better than Adam "I'm gonna crap all over the whole song by not shutting up for a fucking second" Lambert. |

There was a time back in the 70's and 80's even early 90's when Queen fans used to be open minded and up for musical exploration...sadly these days are long behind us now and most seem dull lifeless musical rednecks... Back in the 70's fans liked Queen because they dared to be different and try stuff that the mainstream said was ridiculas or pompous. I suspect Freddie turns in his grave and some of th stuff said here by so called fans. So Lambert's not Freddie, no shit, but you know what his sold more records than all the fans on this site put together. As for Rodgers well he is a true rock legend and frankly anyone with any REAL musical appreciation could see what he brought to the band. It is very sad that so many here simply dont get what Queen is really about, musical exploration... |

"There was a time back in the 70's and 80's even early 90's when Queen fans used to be open minded and up for musical exploration..." That time, for me, was as late as 2008. Plenty of people have given their subsequent projects a listen, and not all of it has been terrible. Adam Lambert is not some new, undiscovered experiment - they jammed, it sounded bad. We know what will happen - it's only a damned idiot who keeps trying the same thing and expecting a different result. |

Anybody who spends even 5 seconds defending or justifying the kind of grasping that sets up a depthless, pointless artist like Adam Lambert to be a repeat stand in for Freddie Mercury simply has little musical taste. It's not much more complicated than that. I know that's kind of an obnoxious statement, and about something that everybody should allow a good deal of subjectivity for. But little taste I think nonetheless, and little 'REAL musical appreciation' either, to steal a phrase. |

I spent a little time on both of them. :) I've already given Adam Lambert far more of my time and attention than he warrants, but it's hard to avoid him here. It's not my impression that it's particularly hard to avoid him in Europe, which makes it all the more regretful that Queen seems to have dived in with such inexplicable relish. The exposure to American audiences is probably enticing. They have seemed to me for some time to have a rather fixed and less than perfectly healthy or wise obsession with achieving in the United States. Looking for gold or trying to best some long ago Achilles' heel maybe. I don't know. I just know Adam Lambert can't sing Queen songs in any way that is worthwhile, and frankly the whole lot of them should know that too. |

Quit making sense GratefulFan. Be a mindless Stepford and accept the fact that a glorified karaoke singer with an inflated sense of self-worth is a perfect fit for two delusional old men who haven't released any vital music since the early 1980s at best. That's 30 years ago, which is why they lost their US audience. Adam Lambert is the man to bring back the audience they lost with Hot Space, resistance is futile. |

I think the public perspective on Queen has been hugely twisted in recent years. back in the day, Freddie was thought of by most of the music industry as a twat, he was pretty well loathed by most and only really became a Rock God after Live Aid and then more importantly his death. The way people here speak of Lambert is EXACTLY the way most spoke of Freddie until he died. No artists wanted him singing on their records unless they were personal friends of the band, there was a grudging respect from him after Live Aid but that soon faded again until he was gone. Thousands of peolple suddenly came out of the woodwork saying they had always loved Queen and Freddie was simply the best rock singer of all time, a fact most Queen fans realised long ago. But today I see the same stereotypical crap spouted about anyone Queen choose to work with. When Paul Rodgers came in it was stunning to see how he got slated by 'fans' on here, everyone from Robbie Williams to most recently Dappy gets the same treatment, ironically the same stuff Freddie would get from the public and the press. To me Queen have always pushed the boundaries, from hard rock to disco, from led Zep to Dappy...that's the point guys!! that's what they do and have always done, it would be no different if Freddie was alive, believe me, had he lived we would have seen Queen and Mercury doing all the stuff you seem to hate, he would have loved to work with all sorts of people, if Queen could have worked with Liz Taylor or Judy Garland he would have been there, if they were still around today he would be the first to praise Lambert. And we would have had a string of albums ranging from dance music to rock as a result, the one thing he never did was stay the same. Personally if they tour with Lambert or Gilbert O'Sullivan for that matter I would be first in the que to see what it would be like, why, because that's why I became a Queen fan, back when they were unfashionable and everyone hated them... |

Personally if they tour with Lambert or Gilbert O'Sullivan for that matter I would be first in the que to see what it would be like, why, because that's why I became a Queen fan, back when they were unfashionable and everyone hated them...There's a fair bit of truth in that. I've taken a bit of abuse here before for pointing out there wasn't a queue of bands/artists waiting to team up with Queen or cover their songs -- until Fred died. And they did indeed get dog's abuse from the music press in the UK. Why they were popular among fans is partly due to what you say, but also because they kept their trademark "sound" intact, while still experimenting. And the experiments were fun --self-indulent and completely oblivious to criticism (until Hot Space tanked: then it was more difficult for them to ignore the criticism). However, during this time at no point did Queen team up with a series of non-entities to promote their work, or try to bask is some kind of reflected glory from "flavour-of-the-month pop stars. What they achieved was their own work. Now, however, they're shamelessly teaming up with people they wouldn't have given the time of day to in the past -- the type of people in fact they've openly criticised (Radio Ga Ga; Nation of Haircuts; C-lebrity). And the reason they're doing it is not to create anything new or innovative, it's to keep the Queen brand in the public eye, so they can continue to flog old product. And that's fine. But PLEASE don't quote artistic reasons to me for the likes of Queen + Five or Queen + Adam Lambert, and please don't tell me what they're doing now is the same boundary-pushing they did in the past, because that's just ridiculous. |

I think that Paul Rodgers was good with Queen. The fact that he was involved with them when Fred was around showed that he was at least good with Fred at one point saying to the band "don't make me try to sing like Paul". Lambert with Queen: well one of those things that will be slated until stuff comes out. Not so sure of it myself to be honest. A lot of people slated Paul Rodgers and some of these people gave it a chance and changed their minds. We will have to wait and hear what is released and what will happen. I think that Queen will probably play out their final years with other lead singers till such time as they do retire for good. When that day comes they will definitely do a "farewell tour" and I hope that during that that John Deacon comes back for that one last time. Then most of us that missed Fred have a chance to see 3/4 of the band as anyone that have seen them post Freddie will have had just Brian and Roger. RIP Freddie, we miss you loads and your music will live for ever with us all x |

Sunday Jan 29th is Adams's 30th birthday. What will 2012 really bring? In the summer of 2010 he launched his Glam Nation tour through the US, Europe and Asia and managed to sell out nearly all of his 113 shows. I think he has been working hard and chasing his niche ... he is an interesting figure and he does sell tickets. I can see why Roger and Brian take an interest in him ... take a look at some of his showmanship: link |

Bad idea. Lambert is the total opposite of Freddie. He talks too much about his private life. He sounds like a girl. Sorry. Have you seen the people who attend his concerts? Nothing against old people but Lambert fans are a bunch of middle age geezers. Boring!! Yes, I'm a teenager and I know Queen are in their 60's but this is Brian "F**king" May and Roger "F**king" Taylor we are talking about. Cool dudes. I fit in with the real Queen fans even if they are older plus a lot of young people like Queen too. Guess because Queen fans are more hip. |

I love Gregsynth and tss's review on lamberts Belfast performance. Intelligent criticism without insulting the artist. In response, because I love to talk about adam, I am a diehard Adam fan. Love him as an artist and as a person. I have seen hundreds of his performances live and via video. There are two that I thiink were bad. #1 AMA performance. His worst ever. #2. Belfast Queen. Not good. I know nothing about E flats, etc., but he didn't sound good. He had only one day for rehearsal. Adam is a perfectionist when it comes to "getting it right." but he had no time. He is not a Freddie wannabe. far from it. But this is a fun gig for him and an honor too. What he does have is a voice capable of doing Freddie material and a great stage presence. So let's see what he does with a week's rehearsal which is what he said he willl have for Sonisphere. Personally, I think he is trying to tackle too much at once between this and promoting his own new album. |
